Action hero’ Neeson proves to be typical Hollywood hoplophobe

“I am totally for gun control in the U.S.,” the actor, who became a citizen five years ago declared, decrying the number of guns owned in the country that took him in and rewarded him with fame and fortune. “I’ll give Britain its dues, when they had the Dunblane massacre in Scotland, within 24 hours the gun laws were changed so you could not have a handgun.”

Within 24 hours of Dunblane all the firearms owners who did NOT commit any crime were punished for owning a firearm that was NOT used in any crime.

... and the antis still wonder why that engendered contempt and hatred!

The lessons learnt are that they only way to moderate such knee-jerk legislation is to erradicate the legislators who pass such legislation from the body politic. To prevent its passing would require the erradication of such legislators at 23 hours ...

Another dickhead actor that uses guns to make movies and tons of money then uses their "influence" to take away our rights. Put his name on the list.

Fuck him. He's a lousy actor.

What he doesn't know or isn't telling is that Fire Arms Certificates (FAC's, as they're known) last for five years in the UK. Anyone with a freshly minted FAC for a handgun got to keep it until the FAC expired, so while the legislation was knee-jerk in character, the actual change in the law filtered down over a five year period.

Secondly, given the nature of the Dunblane shootings, the massacre could have been carried out just as easily with a lever action rifle. Banning handguns wouldn not have prevented it.

Thirdly, muzzle loading revolvers are still available. So are "long barreled pistols", which are modified with barrel and stock extensions to be greater than 24" long.

Finally, murder rates don't seem to correlate with firearms ownership anyway. The US is more violent than the UK, but the UK is more violent than Germany, France, Austria or the Czech republic, all of which have much more relaxed firearms laws than the UK and much higher rates of firearms ownership as a result. For instance, all you need to buy a bolt- pump- or lever-action long gun in Austria is to prove you're over 18 and haven't been convicted of a violent crime. The Czech Republic requires a licence to own a firearm, but it's on a shall-issue basis. All except France permit defensive carry. The Czechs don't even require any additional paperwork for it once you have your licence to purchase.

And yet you're more likely to be murdered in Britain than in any of them, which has about 1/5th the rate of gun ownership (1/3rd for the Czechs). You're also more likely to be murdered in Britain today than you were 100 years ago, before the country had any form of gun control.

Gun control does not save lives.

Most actors are really stupid and have no logic about them. All they can do is memorize lines and use their imagination to parrot them. The last actor with common sense was Charlton Heston, former President of The NRA.

I am so sick of these damn actors, that really do nothing for a living, because i can hardly call playing make believe work. Where do these idiots like Dicaprio, Neeson and Penn come off thinking they have a brain and are all great statesmen and as if their opinions mean something. Sometimes i want a little entertainment and see a movie listed i may like, and then there's an actor in it i can't stand and i won't watch it. So no entertainment for me that night! This ass and the other imbeciles Piers Morgan and Jim Carey, come here because it's a great nation and then they want to start changing things to make it as bad as the shithole they come from. Go back where you came from you non-productive, living in make believe land collectivist jerks! God they make me angry!!!

The overt hypocrisy of this guy is disgusting. He happily cashes in on violent movies (where guns feature prominence) and then turns around and criticizes the "commoners" for having the means to defend themselves.

You doesn't like the 2nd Amendment, Liam Neeson? Fine, give up your American citizenship and pack up on a boat back to whatever shit-hole in Ireland you came from, if you think it's so much better there.

As a side note, I find it's quite enjoyable to watch action-packed movies even WITH the leftist scum-bags like Neeson via pirated movies on websites as megashare.sh, pollystreaming.com and others.

The trained monkeys fulfill their duties of entertaining me, and I get the added enjoyment of stealing a few coins from the traitorous bastards. They lose BOTH ways; diminished respect, and lost money. Does it get any better than that???

He's a Hollywood actor. Why we pay attention to his ilk OR pay to see the garbage they sell is beyond me. If we'd stop spending money to support their industry, his kind would have to shut up, or at least stop having a platform to speak from.

Wyowanderer,

While I dig your comments, I must add in a "well but..." in one word: subsidies. Neeson, et al, perform a very valuable service by keeping the hoi polli stupid, amused, and chasing the latest celebrity gossip. Even if no one had the cash to buy a ticket to their freakshow, you had better bet funding for the "arts" would be on the lips of every talking head from Commiefornia to the Peoples Republic of Taxachussets.

I've heard that Dunblane was a set up for gun control there.
