Stopped for the night. Within easy reach of Sugar Pine Mine in the morning.

Speaking at Coos Bay.
My speech at Coos Bay rambled a bit at first because I was off-the-cuffing it, but it was well received. Got to meet lots of new folks and we went to late lunch for a meet-n-greet. afterward, I got to dip my toe in the Pacific Ocean, a body of water that in my almost 63 years I had never seen. Never been this far west before! Will go to sugar Pine in the morning and then, depending up how long it takes, I'll be on the way to Salt Lake City immediately afterward. However, it is a twelve hour drive between Medford and SLC, so whether I am able to get there on Monday night is. to say the least, problematic. For those of you who are awaiting my arrival for a meet-n-greet, all I can tell you that if you send me your cell phone I'll call you when a.) I know, and b.) I'm not in a dead zone.

The video of my speech in Salem.

Mike Vanderboegh at SB 941 rally in Salem OR May 30th 2015

The cone of silence continues, but if you have any photos of the Salem rally, please forward them to me via email. And, later, an apology.

Met a lot of folks yesterday, friends old and new. I particularly enjoyed meeting American patriot "Old Fart" and his wife. Last night I got more sleep than I've had on any two nights since I left Birmingham. We're headed today to a speech on the boardwalk at Coos Bay, and hopefully I'll get a chance to dip my toe in the Pacific, which I have never seen before. I also cannot thank enough the readers and supporters who pressed gas money into my hands, expressing appreciation for my work and the hope that I will continue. It is humbling beyond belief and I choked up more than once.
The organizers' media plan apparently failed, as we got no coverage from local television and I saw not one local print reporter either. In fairness, my own stop-gap media plan failed as well with arrangements I thought I had for media filming inexplicably falling through. This was a bitter blow, and must be ranked as a major fail of my own. I feel acutely that in my failure to break the cone of silence that the media continues to enforce on the armed civil disobedience movement in the face of well over two years of unprecedented actions by activists all over the country, I have let y'all down. My hope was that this time we could force them to notice. We did not.
There are some great photos out there, though, and I hope those readers who took them will forward some to me so that I may post them here. The computer I am using here in the hotel has no sound, so I cannot review the fragmentary videos of my speech that are coming in. I'll try to do better this evening after I make the stop in Coos Bay. We'll be traveling there shortly this morning and thence on to the Sugar Pine Mine outside Medford for some fact-finding to see how we may assist them in their fight with BLM thuggery.
We'll probably spend the night tonight there and will continue on to Salt Lake City sometime tomorrow where we'll be staying the night at a faithful reader's home. If there's anyone in the SLC area who would like to meet me when I get there, please drop me an email. After that, it's on to Albuquerque to meet Bob Wright and other folks. Keep me in your prayers.
Cone of silence notwithstanding, I'm going to try to ensure that this trip is not a waste of readers' contributions. I am always cognizant that I have a solemn responsibility to get the most out of their sacrifices and those of the activists "behind enemy lines" in the front-line states of the war against tyranny. Keep them in your prayers as well, especially the Liberty For All activists from Washington state like Anthony and Maria Bosworth and Kit Lange as they go back north to get ready for the background-check-free Arms Expo in Yakima on the 20th. Courage does not often come in much bigger bunches than that demonstrated by these magnificent liberty fighters.
(LATER: Please note, especially those of you with whom I have "missed connection" on the way out, that we were traveling through country that for the majority of time I was in an electronic black hole and could not get a signal on my Boost ghetto phone. It was extremely frustrating. This caused me to, quite frankly, "stand up" folks that I wanted to meet. I make no excuses because I should have done more to anticipate and avoid this problem, but we were whippin' the horse pretty hard in order to make sure we made it in time for Salem. My abject apologies to the folks I disappointed. You are right to be angry I failed to do what I intended to do, what I promised to do.)

O'Malley tries to convince the collectivists that he is their "great white hope."

Maryland firearm confiscationist Martin O'Mally's over-inflated ego tells him that he's good enough to sit in George Washington's chair, but he's really just running for vice president.

Hundreds of Oregon Gun Rights Advocates Rally Against New Laws – Will Not Comply

Ralliers will refuse to comply with the new law and will continue to buy, sell, trade, and exchange firearms without going through the background check system. Opponents of the bill say that it infringes on the 2nd Amendment and law enforcement professionals, such as Palmer and many other county Sheriffs, say that it is unenforceable, as no one would know if the law was being broken if 2 people conduct a firearms transfer in their garage or in a parking lot.

Administration preps new gun regulations

Once again, with feeling.

Speaking truth to power. Speech to the We Will Not Comply Rally, Salem OR, 30 May 2015. "It is time, Madam, to pull your head out of your proctology and take a good long look at the new reality you have provoked."

There is an old saying in the Quaker church, “Speak truth to power.” No one seems to know exactly who said it first, or how old it truly is. But I’m going to guess that whoever first said it - as well as most of the folks who have mindlessly repeated it over the years - have never tried themselves to actually speak truth to power. Or if they did, they probably got their asses kicked for their trouble. Because I can tell you from personal experience, the powerful don’t like to have the truth told to them. Not by a long shot do they. And if you actually try to do it, as I have, you’ll find out what I’m talking about after you pick yourself off the floor.
My most recent attempt to speak truth to power came in a letter I wrote to your state Legislators just before they passed this Intolerable Act, this SB-941, seizing state control of the sale of privately held arms in the state of Oregon. You know, not even King George the Third’s tyranny was so grasping as this hateful ‘universal background check” law, this firearm owner registration act. So I spoke truth to power, and, because my time is limited I won’t read you what is now old news but we have made copies available for anyone who wants them down in front here. I can summarize what I told them, in a few paragraphs.
I pointed out that since Sandy Hook in states from Connecticut to New York to Colorado to Washington state, every anti-firearm freedom law that has been passed has been nullified by armed civil disobedience. The lesson of the past two years is clear for anyone paying attention to see -- THERE IS NO UNCONSTITUTIONAL LAW THAT CAN BE PASSED THAT CANNOT BE DEFIED, RESISTED, EVADED, SMUGGLED IN VIOLATION OF AND COMPLETELY NULLIFIED BY ARMED CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE.
And that includes the state of Oregon.
I told them that this is dangerous ground, truly dangerous ground. But it is not ground that we chose. I told them that all the law abiding firearm owners of this country wish is to be left alone but that proto-tyrants such as themselves will not leave us alone. I told them that they are the ones who picked this fight, who picked this dangerous ground and I told them that it is ground we have sworn to fight on, and if need be, die on. I told them that the question they have before them is this:
They must ask themselves if it is ground that they themselves are prepared to fight and die on? I asked them if we resisted their 'good intentions,’ how many of us are they willing to see dead in order to enforce their will upon us? And I asked them if once we and our families begin dying at the hands of the state police they send to our doors, can they blame us if their victims return the favor to the people who sent killers operating under color of law? And I told them that there is another law, ancient and unyielding, available to the lowliest slave, and that is Lex Talionis -- an eye for an eye. And I told them that history shows that the distance between laws like this Intolerable Act and Lex Talionis is often unexpectedly short and frequently taken in mortal error. For as the ancient Chinese warned, ‘Be careful what you wish for, you may get it.’ Or, put differently, I told them, that the rule of law protects them from us far more than it protects us from them and their tyrannical intentions.
That is what I told them when I spoke the plain truth to their power.
Of course they ignored it and passed the bill anyway, thus setting the stage for armed civil disobedience in the state of Oregon.
And do you want to know how truly divorced from reality these collectivist tyrants are? I have here in my hand an official document that was required of the legislature before they passed this hateful bit of tyranny. It is entitled, “Fiscal Impact of Proposed Legislation Measure: SB 941–A REVISED”
This is my favorite part. These bureaucratic pukes estimate that they’re going to make 400 grand a year off you sheep who volunteer to be shorn of your traditional rights. In fact they expect to make a tidy profit off of each and every one of you who comply. But here’s where they’re really smoking’ it like a Colorado doper:
The Criminal Justice Commission estimates that this measure MAY result in an additional 5-10 felony convictions per year.
“Five to ten?” FIVE TO TEN?!? I think I’m looking out at quite a few more than five to ten right here, right now. Who do they think they’re kidding? Themselves? Seriously, this purports to be a sober analysis of the cost of this Intolerable Act.
Well, let me speak truth to power one more time by asking the tax paid morons who crafted this hallucination -- WHAT DO YOU THINK THE “FISCAL IMPACT” OF CIVIL WAR IS?!? Because when you send the raid parties to the doors of our homes, when you begin killing those of us who resist your raw appetite for power, that’s what you’re going to get -- civil war. And if it comes to our doors, what makes them think it won’t come to theirs?
And that, my friends, is speaking truth to power but it is also speaking the truth OF power. It is speaking the truth FROM power. For the fact of the matter is that WE in our numbers possess far more power than they do -- if they force us to wield it. Indeed they only have the power that we allow them to have. They can only work their will upon us, they can only enslave us, if we allow them to do so with our own permission by our own failure to act.
But we are here, now. We ARE acting. Look around you. You know in your heart that for every one here today, there are tens, hundreds, even thousands just like us. People who will not comply. And do you hear that? Listen. Do you hear that? That’s the sound of all those who are not here but who are convinced that this time the tyrannical wolves are indeed coming to our doors. Do you hear it? That’s the sound of cleaning rods moving ceaselessly in thousands of rifle barrels as they are scrubbed to get ready for the coming fight.
The fact of the matter is that WE ARE ACTING! So who has the power now? Them or us -- we who outnumber the bureaucrats with badges a hundred to one? Who now needs to worry about the consequences of speaking truth to power? Them or us? We didn’t want to be here, on this dangerous ground. We just wanted to be left alone. But they will not leave us alone. They will not leave us alone. And whose fault is that? Theirs or ours?
So, on the practicalities of “speaking truth to power,” I tell you this home truth that I have learned and let it sink in deep, where all the collectivist lies cannot touch it. Yes, it can be hazardous. But the past two years have shown me that there is one very important exception to that rule. YOU CAN SPEAK TRUTH TO POWER IF YOU ARE ARMED AND HAVE LOTS OF FRIENDS WHO ARE ARMED!
Indeed, there is no greater example of the Founders’ plan of ordered liberty than this, no further proof required. THE FIRST AMENDMENT IS SECURED BY THE SECOND! And anyone who tells you differently is selling something. For the truth is powerful, but ARMED truth is more powerful still.
Finally, I would like to speak to one more person of power, although she possesses far less real power in this situation of her own making than she thinks. And that is your governor.
Governor, this is dangerous ground you have chosen, making tens of thousands of your own hitherto peaceable, law-abiding citizens into criminals. You are messing with the wrong people -- people who you do not know or understand -- people who you barely acknowledge that they even exist. Nor do you want to. You look at us as ciphers in your collectivist scheme, as cartoon caricatures deserving of your scorn. You and your kind call us “gun nuts” and “knuckle draggers,” “gun queers” and “barrel suckers.” You do your best to dehumanize us to justify your repression of people you despise for their individualism, for their independence, for their refusal to embrace your “enlightened” collectivist tyranny.
You dehumanize us to excuse your tyranny, but are we not human? If you cut us do we not bleed? If you shoot us can we not die? Do we not have families? Do we not live and love and believe and worship as the Founders did? You do not know us, nor do you care -- indeed we know and understand you far better than you understand us -- but I tell you that if you try to enforce this tyrannical abomination upon us YOU WILL KNOW US. Oh, yes, you will.
For we will not comply. We will not back down. If you want to enforce this law you will have to kill us. Is that what you want? It is your choice not ours, but as they say, governor, choose wisely before you drink from this poisoned chalice the witch’s brew you have made.
For though you have made us criminals, we are not criminals, at least not like any criminals you’ve ever seen before. I’ll tell you what we are. WE ARE CITIZENS! More to the point we’re AMERICANS! We will not hide. We will not act guilty, for we are guilty of nothing save resisting tyranny. And we will not go gently into your collectivist night and fog!
We are citizens. AMERICAN CITIZENS. And we retain the right of our own refusal. It is our most powerful weapon, this refusal to bow to collectivist tyranny. We are Americans and like the Founders 240 years ago, we refuse to bow to your will.
WE REFUSE! For we are free men and women, just as the Founders were. And you, madam, and your collectivist kind are tyrants. You may be elected tyrants, but you are tyrants nonetheless. The Founders would have called you domestic enemies of the Constitution for that is what you are.
And when you send the raid parties to our doors to work your will upon us and our innocent families, you will discover that this country has long had a remedy for tyrants -- a Second Amendment remedy. So be careful what you wish for, madam, you may get it. I will not mince words, Governor, we do not have the luxury of wasting time on insincerities, so let me be as blunt as necessary: It is time, Madam, to pull your head out of your proctology and take a good long look at the new reality you have provoked.
That is my message to the governor of Oregon, and this is my message to you:
My fellow Americans, THAT is speaking truth to power. That is speaking FROM the reality of a newly discovered power to a lesser power. For the power is ours, my friends, if we but have the courage to grasp it.
They forced us onto this battlefield. We did not wish it. But we are here. If armed civil disobedience is all that they have left us, then let us make sure of one thing. Let’s make sure we win, let us win and secure our traditional liberties for our children’s children and their children after them. Let’s save and restore the Founders’ Republic as they designed it from the clutches of the domestic enemies of the Constitution who are perilously close to successfully overthrowing it for all time.
The political process has failed us. Both parties are two corrupt wings of the same bird of prey. The courts are packed with their own domestic enemies of the Constitution. We have nothing to count on but ourselves alone. And our rifles.
If we lose this fight, we will have lost liberty in this country, perhaps forever. We cannot lose and be faithful to the oaths that we swore. So let us win. We did not want to be here. The traitors to the Founders’ Republic chose this battlefield. They chose us as their intended victims. They have mistaken our previous exasperated forbearance for cowardice. They have mistaken our “law-abidingness” as a sign of weakness. And worse for them, they have mistakenly concluded that tyranny holds no personal threat to tyrants. And out of such mistakes, civil wars are started.
I say again, we cannot lose this struggle and be faithful to the oaths that we swore. So we must resolve, here and now, to win it. The time for irresolution is over. The time for reluctance is past. These petty tyrants have in their own ignorant, mortal error insisted upon it. If they truly think that they can enforce their will upon us with all the deadly force of state violence, bringing a war to OUR doorsteps, dispatching raid parties to where WE live, endangering OUR families with their flash bangs and small arms fire at the cost of a mere “five to ten felonies a year” and at no cost to themselves, they are delusional. But history teaches that even delusional tyrants pay the price of their errors.
For we refuse their benevolent tyranny. WE REFUSE! NOT ONE MORE INCH BACK! And if they insist upon our dead bodies as the righteous payment for refusing their benevolent dictatorship, if they ironically insist upon civil war as the proper panacea for “gun violence,” then -- regardless of how reluctant we are -- they will be shown, after they kill the first of us, what “gun violence” really is -- as the Founders showed King George.
By the passage of this tyrannical law, they have decided to use deadly state violence against all those who refuse them. They have decided that it is worth it to them to bring civil war to our doors, our homes and our families. There is only one outcome consistent with liberty in that case -- LET. -- US. -- WIN. Let us emulate the Founders of 240 years ago. LET’S WIN!

Like rust and venereal disease, collectivism never quits.

House bill would require gun owners to have liability insurance

Ranks right up there with one of the worst days ever on one of these trips.

After 16 hours we made it to Salem, dodging deer and antelope, wayward construction barrels rolling into traffic, road rage drivers and collecting a speeding ticket in Oregon for an excessive speed by my co-driver that I am certain was deliberately exaggerated by Officer Friendly. Saw some stunningly beautiful country, though. Oregon would be a nice place to locate a free state if you could just de-Kalifornicate the place and persuade all of the nanny state fascists to beat feet somewhere. Nonetheless , I will be delivering the speech fairly early in the batting order tomorrow and please note that it will be at the state capitol. I will try to be there early, so if there are any Threepers or Oath Keepers who can help with distributing literature or half-a-dozen other odd jobs please find me and we'll find something for you do if you are willing. The plan is currently to go to lunch after my speech somewhere close (I will be needing to sit down somewhere at that point) and then we'll probably also go to dinner afterward. If anyone wants to participate in any of that, please drop me an email with your cell phone number or look me up at the rally. This trip is costing much in terms of resources (gas is incredibly high out here) and my personal stamina (the last three days have been extremely taxing and I've thousands of miles yet to go), so I'd like to make it count as much as possible. (I'll have to fly out to the Yakima Arms Expo on the 20th, there's just no way I can do this back-to-back again.) My speech is already loaded on the blog, ready to release the moment I finish so you'll be able to read it tomorrow. They wanted me to limit it to ten minutes, but I can cull it down to no less than 12, not counting the applause, so I trust they won't shut off the mic on me. Hope springs eternal.

Almost on the road this morning. Having trouble opening email.

Haven't a clue why. This hotel computer just won't cooperate. Says AOL is a "blocked site because of content." What a laugh. Except it isn't funny. Yet it will allow me onto Sipsey Street. What a crock. More later.

Made it to the Kansas City area

We're still about 13 hours out of Riverton WY but we'll pick up an hour when we cross into Mountain time. So far, so good.

Made it to the Tennessee rendezvous

Just before a nasty thunderstorm hit. Awaiting arrival of co-driver. Miles to go before we sleep.

A plea from Liberty For All in Washington state about their background-check-free Arms Expo on 20 June.

Liberty For all needs your help, as the expo is drawing closer we have expenses that still need paid for, toilets, sound systems, supplies for kids activities, flyers etc... We ask if you can to share our donation link. We need roughly around $1800.00 to pay for what we already have ordered, and committed to. We are a grassroots organization so most of the expenses is being paid for by 3 of the members of LFA . We want this expo to be a success so any help in sharing the info would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Another GOP sellout.

Victory, then ultimate defeat for campus carry
By hearing AB487, the "emergency" campus carry bill, lawmakers are just going through the motions to give political cover to eight Republicans who failed last week to vote to attach a "campus carry" amendment to another far-reaching gun bill, SB175, that had wide support in the senate, Hansen said.

Interesting Provision Of The Texas Open Carry Bill

"Nefarious things can happen in committee when differences in bills between the House and Senate are ironed out, but this provision appears to be part of both versions of the bill. It should stay in. We’ll see if the Governor keeps his word now. As for the provision that LEOs cannot stop someone because they witness him carrying a gun, this is a very strong statement and I’m impressed that this finally passed the legislative process in Texas (after much pain and gnashing of teeth)."

‘Gun shop’ wasn’t only thing fake in CeaseFire ‘social experiment’ PSA

It also appears that records and permits were not obtained for the fake gun store’s “inventory.” Noting the complexity of special theatrical permit requirements for applicants and dealers, and restrictive New York laws on imitation firearms, it’s surprising to find a fake gun shop can be set up containing hundreds of replica weapons with no paperwork, apparently on just the say-so of on-site NYPD officers.

Federal appeals court deals blow to President Obama’s amnesty

A federal appeals court upheld an injunction against President Obama’s new deportation in a ruling Tuesday that marks the second major legal setback for an administration that had insisted its actions were legal. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit ruled in favor of Texas, which had sued to stop the amnesty, on all key points, finding that Mr. Obama’s amnesty likely broke the law governing how big policies are to be written.

This tells you all you need to know about whether ATF should stay or go.

19 April 1993. The FBI massacres the Davidians by fire and gets away with it.
First it was the collectivist think tank Center for American "Progress," and now we have a Bloomberg News editorial: "Put ATF Out of Its Misery." If Bloomberg News wants the ATF done away with, it is because they understand that by giving the mission to the secret political police of the FBI, they empower the firearm confiscation agenda. Remember the unconstitutional 1934, 1968 and 1986 laws are NOT going away. The only question is, who do you want enforcing them? The bumblers at the ATF or the murderers and blackmailers at the FBI? I'll take the inefficient devil I know rather than murderous, secretive monster that I also know.
19 April 1995. The FBI covers up their sting operation that got away from them -- and gets away with it.

A reminder about my itinerary.

We'll be in the vicinity of Riverton WY on the 28th and should make it to Salem on Friday night the 29th. Speech in Salem on the 30th. Speech in Coos Bay on the 31st, then on to the miner's fight with BLM near Medford. On the 1st we'll travel to SLC and on the 2nd to Albuquerque NM. On the 3rd from ALB to OKC and the 4th back to the Nashville area. If you want to schedule a meet-n-greet in the evening of any of those stops, then drop me an email. No smuggling this trip and all traffic and local gun laws will be obeyed. There's too much on the line to play fast and loose with this one.

So much for "Black Lives Matter."

Smart Gun Company Touted By Democrats Files Chapter 11-Style Restructuring

Photo of eagle on Fort Snelling gravestone touches hearts, goes viral.

Amateur photographer Frank Glick was on his way to work when he drove through Fort Snelling National Cemetery early one morning. He spotted a bald eagle through the mist, perched on a gravestone, and snapped shots with his aging but ever-present camera.

NRA magazine -- ALL M855 victory and NO 7n6 defeat

Not one word about 7n6 in this May article, because that ban slipped by without most of the American gun-owning public, policymakers, or gun lobbyists even raising an eyebrow. The NRA lost that fight, but then again, it scarcely even lifted a finger to resist. But all of that doesn't fit the current M855 narrative--that NRA stood ready and jumped into action to prevent reinterpretation of "sporting purposes" clauses, reclassification of pistol vs. rifle ammunition, and so forth. They failed.

Progressivism: Beyond Parody

"Around the world, climate change increases the risk of instability and conflict," {Obama} said. "Make no mistake, it will impact how our military defends our country. So we need to act, and we need to act now. Denying it or refusing to deal with it endangers our national security," he added. "It undermines the readiness of our forces."

Hey, let’s create a national database of gun owners!

At some point the Democrats need to simply come clean and admit that even state by state lists of gun owners are either showing up or will eventually show up in the the hands of the federal government. This is not a bug in the system… it’s a feature. And continuing to deny it turns a very important constitutional rights discussion into a clown show.

Question for Nashville area Theepers

I will be linking up with my co-driver in Nashville on Wednesday afternoon/night. We need a secure place to park his vehicle for 9 days until we return. Can you suggest a parking garage that is secure? (I know, almost an oxymoron.) Please email me if you do. GeorgeMason1776ATaolDOTcom

Anecdote of a collapsing civilization.

Do not go gentle into that good night,

The Self-Immolation of National Review

Praxis: Magazine loader pouch.

I ran into a fellow at a local range the other day who was running a lot of rounds through his Glock. He was using a mag loader like this one:
Each time he needed it, he dug into his pocket to fish it out. When he walked back to his pickup, I noticed an otherwise squared away MOLLE-type rig on the tailgate set up for M-4/M-16 magazines and his Glock large frame semi-auto. I asked him if he had a pouch to put his speed loader in and he looked embarrassed when he answered no, he hadn't thought about it. I told him that GIs using M-3 grease guns in WWII and Korea would have their mag loaders clipped onto their web gear by the simple expedient of unhooking one of the front straps from the belt and threading the mag loader through it. It rattled a bit against the snap hook, but it was handy.
I've seen photos of French paras doing the same thing with mag loaders for their SMGs in Indochina and Algeria, both M-3 grease guns and MAT-49s.
M-3 Grease gun magazine loader.
I suggested to the young man that from my own experience, an M-3 mag loader fit very nicely into a current issue single MOLLE 40mm grenade pouch like this one:
I told him I was certain he could rig one up to his combat fighting vest for his Glock and it would fit just fine and he wouldn't have to dig for it. He thanked me for the tip.

The history of conflict is about people trying to impose their will on each other or intimidating competitors into adopting a desired behavior or course of action by the threat (explicit or implicit) of force. Has the invention of the iPhone so fundamentally changed the nature of Man that millennia of human history have been relegated to its ash-heap? Many “defense experts” — including those with operational experience, academic pedigree or both — seem to think so. And that fanciful thinking permeates much of the current debate over the use of the military as well as thinking about the role of each service and what they contribute to national security. . .
War — a violent conflict among and between peoples—has a tenacious consistency stretching back to the origins of Man. The character of warfare evolves continuously on the edges, but its fundamental nature remains true to its immutable core. This should lead modern-day warriors to be circumspect—especially when they are considering tossing centuries of experience out the window in favor of the alluring promise of transformative, leap-ahead, game-changing, and revolutionary technological solutions.

Interesting.

Republican 'leaders' block and derail campus carry in Nevada

Proving that it’s not just Democrats who support infringements on the right of the people to keep and bear arms, two state senators blocked “legal” recognition of adults -- otherwise lawfully eligible to carry firearms -- from doing so on college campuses in Nevada, “Conservatarian” political activist Chuck Muth reported Thursday. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Greg Brower and Senate Majority Leader Michael Roberson “have dug in their heels” to kill Amanda’s Law, named for rape survivor and self-defense advocate Amanda Collins, who was prohibited by law from having the means of defense at the time she was attacked.

Thomasson wants to preserve the ATF and make it stronger. NO ONE. If the history of the Fast and Furious scandal (and its ultimate failure once the FBI informants the Miramontes brothers were mentioned) demonstrates anything, it conclusively demonstrates that.

Judge's order bars enforcement in Oregon gold mine dispute

The federal government and southern Oregon gold miners have each taken a step back from tensions over a mining claim where a constitutional activist group has posted armed guards. The U.S. Bureau of Land Management is holding off enforcement action. The miners have agreed not to work the claim until their appeal of the agency's decision against their operation is resolved. The deal was affirmed Wednesday in a decision from an Interior Board of Land Appeals administrative law judge forbidding the BLM to enforce an order halting work at the mine. The judge noted the miners were not going to try to mine, and BLM did not oppose the stay.

Federal data shows that white supremacists and “terrorists” have infiltrated law enforcement departments across the United States and have killed thousands of people, according to a researcher and historian in Washington.
Riiight. Well, my first question on reading this was, "Who hath measured the ground?"
I'd never heard of the Black Autonomy Network Community Organization, and discovered some interesting facts.
BANCO is headed by convicted election fraudster Edward Pinkney.
"Some people in town would call you a con man," Bohn said.
"Some people call me a hero, too," Pinkney responded.
"You used multiple aliases. You used different Social Security numbers. What do you say to those claims? " asked Bohn.
"Thank you, this is over," Pinkney said while shutting his front door and refusing to answer any further questions.
Just how someone affiliated with BANCO can get his name in a story without that organization's past crimes being mentioned is, to say the least, journalistic malpractice.
Later: My comment posted at the article site:
Just exactly how is it that you treat this "researcher" seriously when he is associated with BANCO, an organization founded by convicted election fraudster and race hustler Edward Pinkney? By not mentioning that organization's criminal history, you are committing journalistic malpractice. Don't you find it the least bit damning that this "researcher" claims BANCO on his CV? But of course, to mention these facts would be to cast doubt on the entire story, wouldn't it? -- Mike Vanderboegh, Pinson AL
LATER: Oh, I get it now. My comment showed up when posted but then was quickly deleted. So I went to Press TV and discovered that it is based in Teheran, Iran.

GOA supporters to question presidential hopefuls in ‘tele-town hall meeting'

Evidently opposed to inclusion of uncompromising gun rights constituencies in the electoral decision-making process, the “progressive” group People for the American Way attempted to pressure Sen. Instead of discussing the proper role of government in relation to the Second Amendment, an attack piece “press release” published yesterday resorted to smearing GOA Executive Director Larry Pratt by implying he is a violent racist, and tried to scare GOP candidates away from being affiliated with “the most extreme elements of their party’s base.”

The problem is finding someone who can take more than a week to help me accomplish that via road. It is now coming to light that not only did Soros pour the gasoline on the city, but lit the match as well. It was more or less suspected that there was someone behind the Ferguson protests. Now we have the smoking gun.

You bet yer ass it threatens unrestrained democracy. That's the way the Founders intended it.

The "government-monopoly-of-violence advocates" have finally decided that they can't be silent about armed civil disobedience any longer: Groups warn Oregon mine militia dispute threatens democracy.
A coalition of public policy advocates warned on Tuesday that a group of armed conservative activists who have been guarding a mine in southern Oregon for over a month are a sign of an emerging violent anti-government movement.
The groups behind the newly formed "Ballots Not Bullets" coalition said they will seek to promote democracy over what they call militia-style extremism and will try to counter these kinds of movements nationwide.
Created by seven organizations including the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence and Catholics in Alliance for Common Good, Ballots Not Bullets is a response to an ongoing legal battle between the owners of a mining claim outside the small Oregon town of Medford and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. . .
"It is a rejection of any kind of democratic compromise and the endorsement of the use of weapons and violence to get your way," said Mark Potok of the Southern Poverty Law Center, a coalition member.
I've got news fer ya, Markie, you don't get to compromise our natural, God-given and inalienable rights, no matter how many elections you collectivists win. The Founders viewed unrestrained democracy as just as great a threat to liberty as monarchy.

Murdered executive supported ‘gun control’-backing politician

That's not stated bluntly in order to "blame the victims," but to keep more from being helplessly butchered. Likewise, no one who is sane would blame the knife, or the bludgeon, or the flames these people were killed with, but had a gun been used, is there any doubt that would have been exploited? The demonic savagery taken out on these unfortunate souls should once more “bring home” that monstrous evil can happen anytime, anywhere, even in exclusive neighborhoods and to the most unlikely of people. We owe it to ourselves and those we care about to consider our defensive options if it does, and not to let anyone else dictate our choices.

A Retired Army Officer Reacts to Congressman Gohmert's Take on Jade Helm.

A retired Army officer forwarded me Texas Congressman Louis Gohmert's take on Jade Helm 15: "Changes needed in Jade Helm military exercises." So I asked him, "What do YOU think?" To which he responded:
Much as Gohmert does: Our wargames, command-post and field-exercise scenarios never depicted the sovereign States; it was not ever done, regardless whether "hostile," "permissive" or "uncertain". Fictitious country names were always used. Often the territories would be carved up so as to not even match State boundaries.
Jade Helm 15 is different. Texas hostile? Utah hostile? Who knew? Quelle surprise.
Either the administration put out some "guidance" specifying these precise exercise parameters to the (military) exercise planners, or some (military) exercise planners are simply going along with the latest political memes - and no one in (military) authority has reined them in. [We have seen this before, spontaneously, when local school administrators, working with local police, conducted "react to the local terrorist threat" drills (traumatizing the staff and kids, usually), where Christian homeschoolers were named as the threat. This sort of thing is quite expected, given current societal memes.]
There is a great deal of conservative, traditional American angst over the potential for misdirection and/or blatant tyrannical action by this rogue administration. And having a military whose highest leadership has lost its way by assuming its slavish obedience to its civilian master equals fidelity to their constitutional duty doesn't help settle the collective jitters, either.
So while I think that angst is understandable, for all the reasons Gohmert lists, nevertheless I do not think that Jade Helm 15 is going to result in a sudden jump to processing local conservatives into concentration camps.
Like Denninger, I do question a number of stated premises. Most obviously the working-up with local, state and federal police agencies concerning TTP's that can only be described as population control.
While there is nothing (conceptually) wrong with the US Military conducting training exercises on the economy, it has not been large-scale US military practice since WW II. Prior to WWII, it was common. But it needs to be done with a respect for the people of the United States that this administration utterly lacks.
To quote Rep. Gohmert: "The map of the exercise needs to change, the names on the map need to change, and the tone of the exercise needs to be completely revamped so the federal government is not intentionally practicing war against its own states."
And I will add that the Military needs to get back to earning the trust of the American people by not kow-towing to a partisan administration. Senior military leaders need to show a little backbone.
Yeah, I know. It is to laugh.

The FEC’s Latest Great Idea: Dismantle Capitalism to Get More Women in Office.

I am sure that American taxpayers are overjoyed that a federal agency held a hearing on a nonexistent problem so that a group of academics could present their inane theories to solve it — theories that, if implemented, would restrict basic liberties and freedoms protected by the Bill of Rights. During the golden age of radio, Jimmy Durante once said that politics developed more comedians than radio ever did. Based on the testimony at Chairwoman Ravel’s FEC hearing, today it seems that academia is giving both a run for their money.

Government files for asset forfeiture of Stag Arms firearms seized in raid

At this point, no charges have been filed against the company, but an investigation is ongoing.

U.S. gun manufacturing soars as Americans worry about security

The American firearms industry is as healthy as ever, seeing an unprecedented surge that has sent production of guns soaring to more than 10.8 million manufactured in 2013 alone — double the total of just three years earlier. The 2013 surge — the latest for which the government has figures — came in the first full year after the December 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, signaling that the push for stricter gun controls, strongly backed by President Obama, did little to chill the industry despite the passage of stricter laws in states such as New York, Maryland, Connecticut and California.

List of Obama's new embargo on military equipment to the cops.
I have long been on record as approving of the transfer of military hardware out into the hinterland where the armed citizenry can get its hands on it when it needs to. It could well be that the Obama administration, faced with the latest example in a long line of Iraqi Shia cowardice arming ISIS, started worrying about that very thing here at home.
The units that had been attempting to retake Ramadi, which was attacked late Thursday evening and had fallen mostly into militant hands by Saturday, were in the process of fleeing the city and had abandoned dozens of U.S.-supplied armored vehicles, as well as artillery, heavy machine guns and other military gear as they fled mostly on foot from the fighting.
(MBV NOTE: On another pet peeve of mine -- We gave this stuff to the Iraqi "central 'government'" which promptly surrenders it to ISIS, but we refuse to arm the Kurds who are the only effective fighting force in the region.)

Well, the speech at the Oath Keepers meeting went well, I think.

When I got home though, I had some health issues. That's why I'm getting started so late today. Rosey let me oversleep and I guess I can't blame her. Folks, I'm going to take this morning off.

I've been sick as a dog these past few days and I'm going to be busy this afternoon and evening with my speech to the Alabama Oath Keepers meeting. Heck, I let the OK's down and missed an opportunity to do a radio show yesterday to drum up support for the meeting because I was running out both ends.
I did get to work on my speech for Oregon a bit yesterday. The subject will be "Speaking Truth to Power." Here's the opening paragraph:
There is an old saying in the Quaker church, “Speak truth to power.” No one seems to know exactly who said it first, or how old it truly is. But I’m going to guess that whoever first said it, as well as most of the folks who mindlessly repeated it over the years, have never tried themselves to actually speak truth to power.
There's more of course. And there is one way you can speak truth to power and get away with it -- if you're armed, and you have friends who are also armed.
But for now, I'm going to have to let you down this morning. Sorry. If the muse returns without Churchill's black dog, I'll have more later.

Trump donations to Clinton foundation add to gun owner concerns

Potential GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump and his daughter have donated “at least $105,000 to the Clinton Foundation,” The Hill reported Thursday. Contributions, per the Foundation website, “advance the work of any part of the Clinton Foundation, including the Clinton Global Initiative.”

Toilet Paper Media hyperventilates at the revelation that Stewart Rhodes has offered the opinion that John McCain should be tried and hanged for treason to the Constitution.

The collectivist blog Talking Points Memo is in an indignant spasm, as only collectivists can work themselves up to. "Oath Keepers Founder: Traitor McCain Should Be 'Hung By The Neck Until Dead'."
Of course Stewart predicated his statement with this: “He should be tried for treason before a jury of his peers — which he would deny you."
If you look at McCain's support for the worst parts of the misnamed PATRIOT Act, as well as his backing of the NDAA, it is not unreasonable that a guy who is all for massive spying on his fellow citizens (and hence the violation of their Fourth and Fifth Amendment rights under the same Constitution that he swore an oath to preserve, protect and defend) as well as executing American citizens without trial could be considered treasonous. The Founders, I suspect, would certainly think so. And McCain's votes for these laws place him beyond mere free speech advocacy and into direct responsibility for destruction of the rule of law as understood by the Founders. I mean, it's not as if Stewart's channeling the Red Queen and uttering some wild-eyed advocacy of McCain's death without trial in a vacuum of evidence.
"Now for the evidence," said the King, "and then the sentence."
"No!" said the Queen, "first the sentence, and then the evidence!"
"Nonsense!" cried Alice, so loudly that everybody jumped, "the idea of having the sentence first!"
However history judges John McCain, it will likely depend upon how he enabled tyranny that he didn't mind seeing others enforce upon innocent American citizens. Stewart believes passionately that McCain has violated his oath. Under the circumstances and with all our potential futures hostage to those actions, it is understandable that he would view those concrete acts as treason. As it happens, I agree with him on that. And the Founders, you may recall, laid out a specific punishment for treason. And that was? Why, to be hung by the neck until death.
Of course with the laws being what they are, Stewart may have put himself in legal jeopardy for, as they see it, threatening a perfumed senatorial prince of the Mandarin class. In certain circles it was at the least certainly impolitic to say. I probably would have phrased it more delicately and indirectly. Does that make me smarter, or just not as forthright and honest as Stewart Rhodes? History, too, will judge that.

Planning more stops in Oregon and in between. Get your request in now.

As I wrote the other day:
Just got off the phone with Reuben, the organizer of the the rally on the 30th in Salem. It will be quite a haul (5,000 miles round trip) for a ten-minute speech, but I'll try to combine it with other sedition to the Empire on the way out and on the way back.
Speaking of other sedition, MJW-1982 writes in a comment to that post, inviting me to another rally the following day in Coos Bay. He informs me that it is 3 hours southwest of Salem (MapQuest says it is an additional 178 miles). This seems doable to me. He writes, "I'm sure we can get some donations to cover the gas/food/lodging. If you think it's possible I will run it past the members of our Facebook group."
Now the way things have been working lately, I have been staying at the residences of folks who volunteer to put me up for the night rather than stay in hotels. This makes the resources stretch quite a bit farther. Of course I don't dare attempt it without a co-driver so whatever arrangements we do make will have to include him as well. It also would be foolish to be in Oregon and not stop by the miners in Grants Pass, although exactly what day that would be has yet to be determined. According to MapQuest, that's just an additional 3 hours from Coos Bay to Grant's Pass (That's another 178 miles. On the way out, Birmingham to Salem OR is about 2600 miles, but it will be a little bit longer than that because at least one night I would like to spend in south central Wyoming). So maybe Monday works for GP. From Grants Pass back to Birmingham is another 2600 miles.
In any case, I get a lot more work done for the resistance at meet-and-greets usually at the breakfasts, lunches and dinners with local folks along the way. Take a look at the itinerary on MapQuest and if you want me to stop by a reasonable waypoints and speak or meet-and-greet, drop me an email. I don't promise I can accommodate everybody, but if you make a good case that's not too far off the track, I'll try to work it in.

Where's Bernard Goetz when you need him? Confused reporter and editor are diffused. Or were they defused? Can they be excused? Let's just settle for confused, shall we?

Defuse vs. diffuse: To defuse (something) is to make a threatening or dangerous situation safer. For example, you might defuse a violent argument by calming the people involved, or you might literally defuse a bomb by deactivating its fuse. Diffuse works as both a verb and an adjective. To diffuse something is to disperse it or spread it out. When something is dispersed or spread out, it is diffuse. -- Grammarist.com

Two young girls begin trading blows, and people try to tear them apart. Since breaking this story necessitated violating all four of those disqualifiers, the May 7 report was ineligible for news promotion, although it did receive attention and acknowledgement in a Tuesday report by Bob Owens at Bearing Arms.com.

The die is cast. Of Constitutions and suicide pacts.

"[A] strict observance of the written law is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to the written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the ends to the means." -- Thomas Jefferson.
Oregon governor signs expanded gun background checks law.
In the Terminiello case in 1949, Associate Justice Robert Jackson reformulated Jefferson by writing:
"The choice is not between order and liberty. It is between liberty with order and anarchy without either. There is danger that, if the court does not temper its doctrinaire logic with a little practical wisdom, it will convert the constitutional Bill of Rights into a suicide pact."
Jackson was dissenting in a case that held that a Chicago law was a violation of the First Amendment. In other words, Jackson was siding with the power of government over individual liberty, which is not, I think, what Jefferson had in mind.
But if Jackson could reformulate Jefferson, then I can reformulate Jackson. A close study of history demonstrates that if constitutions are not suicide pacts, then violating them -- on the part of the violators -- can be suicide, of a regime, or an individual politician, rapacious enough in their tyrannical appetites to try.
This is something that the Governor of Oregon, the other tyrant wannabes in that state's governing elite (and their media toadies) as well as Michael Bloomberg apparently have not learned. The lesson, if they enforce this unconstitutional 'Intolerable Act," is likely to be expensive for all of us.
Suicide pact? Oregon Governor Kate Brown signs the Intolerable Act, applauded by other domestic enemies of the Constitution and assorted collectivist myrmidons and tyrannical toadies.

Once again proving that there's no story that David Codrea can break that others can't plagiarize without attribution (or claim credit for after the fact).

Pravda-on-the-Potomac notices "smart gun" woes.
David comments:
Now watch others notice. Like NRA News, now that it's "safe."
Just like they all noticed Fast and Furious and many others, most recently news of the Jones retirement from ATF to NFL. Fortunately, there is a place in "Authorized Journalism" for guys like me -- for instance, I understand the local birdcage liner could use a delivery person with a reliable car.
And the cryin' shame is that David is going broke doing what he does.

Praxis: The History Of The Designated Marksman’s Rifle. Accuracy versus volume of fire at squad level. "I admire him, but it is necessary that he should die."

Tim Murphy, at Daniel Morgan's order ("I admire him, but it is necessary that he should die.") during the Battle of Bemis Heights (Second Battle of Saratoga), 7 October 1777, shinnies up a tree and makes the single most important rifle shot in world history -- mortally wounding British Brigadier General Simon Fraser. As a result of the victory at Saratoga, the French came into the War of Independence on our side.

"Same principles. . . 4X scope. . . detachable. Iron sight backup. . . But the principles are what we're here to talk about . . . you would imbed this in a squad or a certain number of men. It would give them precision that they wouldn't have with their regular rifles. Especially 7.62x39, you're augmenting them with a 7.62x54R rifle. . . And they used these like the Germans ended up using the G43 on the Eastern Front in '44 and '45, where instead of a machine gun nest it would be a DMR and he would support the assault or defend a retreat by placing very precision fire on that enemy. Same exact concept. They took it, improved it, made it a better rifle, same idea."
"The idea is the guy with this rifle, he can be running, and moving, and transitioning with the rest of the unit, but he's capable of making more precise shots. It would kind of be like imbedding a guy with a bazooka or a guy with a BAR into a squad, to give them a little bit of extra capacity in a particular tactical role."
"A force multiplier for a specific purpose."
EXACTLY.
Thanks to the Constitutionally indefensible National Firearms Act of 1934, the armed citizenry is at present denied widespread access to full-auto base of fire weapons. Okay, so if lemons are what we are left, let's make the sweetest lemonade we can. The same goes for supporting ordnance. If we are denied mortars and RPGs, then we can (at present) still employ other rifles to practice the use of rifle grenades as support weapons. We may be restricted to inert practice projectiles at the moment, but if and when (hypothetically speaking) Leviathan -- by its insatiable appetites -- starts the next civil war, changing out a PVC dummy filled with PlayDoh for something more, uh, improvised and exciting, is a matter of a little time, skill and the motivation having nothing else to lose. The skills needed to accurately launch pound-and-a-half projectiles, whether inert or potent, are the same, whether you're aiming at an empty 55 gallon drum at 200 meters in an RG competition or a regime Humvee at 50 meters in real time on the two-way shooting range. This is something that regime minions should consider before going there.
The same goes with the DMR. Accuracy can substitute for volume of fire. If accuracy is what is available to us, then, by all means, let us have accuracy. It is especially useful when the 4GW target is sitting in his security cocoon believing himself, or herself, to be invulnerable. Hypothetically speaking, of course. ;-)
Appleseed, anyone?

Checking for chipmunks, collectivist congresscritter cogitates coitally crippling Constitution.

Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman targets online ammunition sales
Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-12) will introduce a bill in congress Tuesday to place restrictions on the sale of ammunition online.
The bill would require that federally licensed ammunition dealers confirm the identify of their customers by verifying a photo identification and if those customers purchase more than 1,000 rounds within five consecutive days, their identifies would be passed along to the U.S. Attorney General.
"This gives the ability to monitor large ammunition purchases and flag them for law enforcement," said Watson Coleman.
Methinks this collectivist congresscritter is checking her chipmunk.
(By the way, I think that is the longest alliterative headline I've ever attempted.)
