NRA opposition to Surgeon General nominee lacks credible deterrent

Once again, on the way to the congressional hearing, the NRA weeniewagon spins out.
The fact remains, without the assurance of a consequence, senators will be free to confirm someone Mr. Cox accurately describes as disastrous, with absolutely no repercussions to their NRA grades or to their eligibility for endorsements and financial support. NRA members and gun owners who pay for all that and find it troubling should contact ILA and ask what such halfway measures without any teeth are supposed to accomplish.

Gee, I go away for a little while and all hell breaks loose. "Mike, the upper echelons (of the CT state police) don't know whether to shit or go blind."

Back from dealing with the family situation. In the mean time, as you can read from the links below, all hell has broken loose in CT. I am informed by various sources:
"Don't come to Connecticut anytime soon, there's cops and politicians up here who want you dead."
"The fox in in the henhouse over at the Legislature. There's people who voted for that damn law who want personal protective details NOW. They also want you in jail."
From the CT state police: "Mike, the upper echelons don't know whether to shit or go blind. You really hit them with those last two letters. Much discussion -- some whispering and more than a little shouting. They realize that this is a PR nightmare and they don't know what to do about it. I heard (a supervisor) cussing Malloy and Lawlor and that (graphic expletive deleted) Vance. All of a sudden they're starting to realize that we are on the line to be shot at and not them. . . The higher ups (like Vance) can afford to be in denial. We can't."
Goodness gracious, no good deed goes unpunished. Here I try to help them out and they go and react poorly. I guess it's a good thing CCDL won't invite me to their shindig this year. Too many politicians who are embarrassed to be seen with me on the same stage, is what I hear. If they are all that concerned, why don't they introduce a bill to postpone enforcement until the US Supreme Court has a chance to rule. At the very least, they'll be forcing the tyrants to go on the record one more time. I guess that makes too much sense.

Patriot Activist Makes His Own List: The Home Addresses of CT Legislators Who Just Voted in Favor of Gun Control

Sometimes you just have to fight fire with fire. And that is exactly what Mike Vanderboegh has chosen to do. The state of Connecticut wants to make a list – a list of gun owners. So, Vanderboegh has created his own list – a list of those state legislators who are insisting that certain firearms be banned or registered.
See also The Daily Sheeple.

Connecticut Gun Confrontation Brewing Over Registration

Mike Vanderboegh doesn’t think so. A blogger at the conservative Sipsey Street Irregulars, Vanderboegh outlined possible consequences facing Connecticut State Police officers if they are called into action against the newly minted felons who were innocent on December 31 and became criminals in the eyes of the state the next day. Vanderboegh, the founder of the Three Percent movement (a reference to the three percent of the population who, he says, fought the British during the American War for Independence), carefully crafted a 16,000-word e-mail and sent it to every one of the 1,200 members of the Connecticut State Police and the Department of Emergency Services warning of the consequences they could face if they follow orders from superiors to begin confiscating weapons from owners by force.

“Ma’am, It Sounds Like You’re Anti-American.” Yeah, sieg heil, fascist pig.

Connecticut State Police Spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance, who spent far too many sad hours in front of the cameras talking to the media about the Sandy Hook massacre, has been fielding calls lately about the state’s gun ban and registration provisions. The deadline to register so-called “assault weapons” and standard capacity magazines with the state passed on December 31.

Some family business has come up that requires my undivided attention.

Every one is safe, but I will be out of pocket for a little bit. If you can, please do your best to circulate my latest letter to the CT Legislative Tyrants. I'll be back posting later today. In the meantime, keep me and mine in your prayers. Thanks.

Police Officers Oath of Office and Code of Ethics: A Question of Knowledge.

Thanks to reader Jeff for forwarding this link.
Two of the most neglected areas of police work are code of ethics and oath of office. These two documents are the most important issues of truth and integrity a police department has with the community it serves. Most police agencies have neglected these issues and do not fully understand the impact they have on the community they serve.

Anti-gun group panics over Georgia joining 41 states in allowing airport carry

"Americans for Responsible Solutions," the anti-gun group headlined by former U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) and her husband Mark Kelly, is in a tizzy over the fact that the Georgia legislature appears close to passing a bill that would, among other things, legalize the carrying of defensive firearms in the non-"sterile" ("sterile" meaning secured with metal detectors and/or other scanners, and by federal law off limits to armed private citizens) areas of airports in the state.

The Washington Post wrongly reported a Southern California shooting facility was pioneering the sale of so-called “smart guns,” a representative of Oak Tree Gun Club told Gun Rights Examiner Wednesday. That story included a quote from owner James Mitchell and reported his was “the only outlet in the country selling the [Armatix] iP1” personalized gun.

Open Letter to the Legislative Tyrants of Connecticut.

An Open Letter to the Legislative Tyrants of Connecticut.
Sent via email.
To the CT State Senators And Representatives who voted Yes on "An Act Concerning Gun Violence Prevention and Children's Safety, also known as Public Law 13-3 or Connecticut Senate Bill No. 1160," 3 April 2013.
And, yes, I said tyrants. You bought it, in the form of the woefully misnamed "Act Concerning Gun Violence Prevention and Children's Safety," you own it, you are certainly -- if you get your way -- going to pay for it like it or not, so you might as well own up to it. Look in the mirror. That's what a tyrant in the 21st Century looks like. Mather Byles, the Massachusetts Loyalist of the Revolutionary period -- our first civil war -- once famously asked, "Which is better - to be ruled by one tyrant three thousand miles away or by three thousand tyrants one mile away?" The Founders themselves were just as suspicious of unrestrained democracy as a means of tyranny. This is why they gave us a republic of limited powers and the rule of law, to limit those who would misuse democracy to create a new tyranny. Yet that is precisely what you've done. Own it.
You know, in Greek mythology Cassandra, the daughter of King Priam and Queen Hecuba of Troy, was given the gift of prophecy. She could see exactly what was going to happen to her endangered city. Yet she was also cursed with the burden of never being believed. The frustration was said to have driven her mad. Never have I come closer to understanding Cassandra's curse than these past months.
Before I sat down to write this letter, recognizing that it is one of the most important and even dangerous letters (to me) I have ever written, I asked my friend Paul to pray for me. He responded thusly:
May God grant you inspiration, diplomacy, empathy, service-fullness, compassion and resourcefulness. May God grant you His calmness, centeredness, clarity, creativity, strength and courage as you craft your letter. Above all, may God help you in maintaining an open heart in all that you project outward and a remembrance of who we all are. We are all His sons and daughters.
Indeed we are all His sons and daughters, and I am grateful for Paul's prayerful reminder to me of Who I serve. However, you may conclude from my opening that I am struggling with that "diplomacy" part because frankly, you people have provoked in me and many of your fellow Connecticut citizens a real Old Testament anger at your felonious arrogance of power combined as it is with an overwhelming ignorance of the people you seek to rule. You have mistaken your fellow citizens for timid collectivist souls such as yourselves and you are very much in error -- and that error may get a whole lot of people killed, and soon. Sheer stupidity and waste of human life always makes me angry, so you will find me a trifle lean on diplomacy in this letter. The occasion calls for plain-speaking and brutal honesty.
It is not that I haven't been trying to warn y'all, like Cassandra, about the danger your conduct has placed us all in. On 20 April of last year, right after you passed your Intolerable Act, I spoke on the steps of your state house and said this:
"An unconstitutional law is void." It has no effect. So says American Jurisprudence, the standard legal text. And that's been upheld by centuries of American law. An unconstitutional law is VOID. Now that is certainly true. But the tricky part is how do we make that point when the local, state and federal executive and legislative branches as well as the courts are in the hands of the domestic enemies of the Constitution. Everyone who is currently trying to take away your right to arms starts out by saying "I support the 2nd Amendment." Let me tell you a home truth that we know down in Alabama -- Barack Obama supports the 2nd Amendment just about as much as Adolf Hitler appreciated Jewish culture, or Joseph Stalin believed in individual liberty. Believe what politicians do, not what they say. Because the lie is the attendant of every evil. . .
Before this year no one thought that other firearms and related items would ever be banned -- but they were, they have been. No one thought that the authorities of your state would pass laws making criminals out of the previously law-abiding -- but they did. If they catch you violating their unconstitutional laws, they will -- when they please -- send armed men to work their will upon you. And people -- innocent of any crime save the one these tyrants created -- will die resisting them.
And later on, I said this:
No one wants a new civil war (except, apparently, the anti-constitutional tyrants who passed these laws and their media toadies who cheer them on) but one is staring us in the face. Let me repeat that, a civil war is staring us in the face. To think otherwise is to whistle past the graveyard of our own history. We must, if we wish to avoid armed conflict, get across this message to the collectivists who have declared their appetites for our liberty, our property and our lives -- WHEN DEMOCRACY TURNS TO TYRANNY, THE ARMED CITIZENRY STILL GETS TO VOTE.
Now just like King George, such people will not care, nor modify their behavior, by what you say, no matter how loudly or in what numbers you say it. They will only pay attention to what you DO. So defy them. Resist their laws. Evade them. Smuggle in what they command you not to have. Only by our ACTS will they be impressed. Then, if they mean to have a civil war, they will at least have been informed of the unintended consequences of their tyrannical actions. Again I say -- Defy. Resist. Evade. Smuggle. If you wish to stay free and to pass down that freedom to your children's children you can do no less than to become the lawbreakers that they have unconstitutionally made of you. Accept that fact. Embrace it. And resolve to be the very best, most successful lawbreakers you can be. (1)
The thing is, apparently someone was listening. As Bob Owens reports: Botched registration leads to confiscation in Connecticut.
Gun owners sat on their butts and refused to register either arms or magazines, all but daring the state to do anything about it. Of the estimated 375,000-400,000 firearms deemed “assault weapons” by the state, more than 325,000 remain undocumented. Only about 50,000 were registered for future confiscation. The requirement to register standard capacity magazines was laughed at even louder by the citizenry; just 38,000 (less than 2 percent) of an estimated 2 million standard capacity magazines holding greater than ten rounds of ammunition were registered with the state. (2)
But Ed Jacovino of the Journal Inquirer reports that those who tried to obey your law and didn't get in under the arbitrary deadline are now going to be punished for their good faith efforts. (3) They are getting letters like this one:
Jacovino reports that the arrogant Mike Lawlor now purports to read minds.
Once people realize they can’t keep the guns and magazines, “they’re going to get rid of them,” Michael P. Lawlor, the undersecretary for criminal justice policy and planning to Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, says.
Madame Lawlor knows all, sees all. (Graphic courtesy of David Codrea.)
Jacovino continues:
And while the state won’t immediately prosecute those who missed the deadline, it isn’t ignoring that information, either.
The rifle and magazine declarations will be included in information given to police responding to a certain address. “This would be a factor in deciding how to respond to different situations,” Lawlor says.
In other words, "we'll send a Connecticut state police SWAT team to your door if you are reporting a home invasion -- not to arrest the perpetrator attacking you and your family but to arrest and, if necessary, kill you."
Jacovino reports that Ron Pinciaro, executive director of the Connecticut Coalition Against Gun Violence, is equally bloody minded.
(Pinciaro) says the administration’s approach of sending a warning letter is suitable. "It’s fair. They’re giving them fair warning that they’re in noncompliance,” he says. Pinciaro adds that he’s glad a new bill wasn’t necessary — lawmakers were considering changes that would have extended the deadline beyond Jan. 4. “Now we’re saying, ‘OK, we gave them eight months, what else can we do for them now?’ That’s not the way any other law works,” he says.
Including, I might add, the ironclad Law of Unintended Consequences, but more of that in a minute.
Now I have communicated with both of these two true believers in citizen disarmament in the recent past. Pinciaro was the recipient of one of my Toys for Totalitarians awards as was your governor (see My letter to Governor Malloy here.) (4)
As for Lawlor, we've had a right brisk exchange of views -- all one way unless you count the major case investigation against me by the Connecticut state police that he's contributing to. I've sent him no less than four open letters since he began threatening Connecticut firearm owners on your behalf (see here, here, here and here.) (5) (6) (7) (8) I have even sent a request for his KGB file to the Russian Embassy here.(9)
That is not to say that the building crisis over your Intolerable Act has not yet claimed some "victims," of a sort, from your own ranks. I noted with interest this story from the Courant: "Senate Leader Not Seeking Reelection." (10)
The departure of Williams comes at a time of major change in leadership at the state Capitol. Senate Republican leader John McKinney of Fairfield is running for governor and serving in his last year in the Senate. House Republican leader Larry Cafero of Norwalk is widely expected to be in his final year at the Capitol, but he has not yet made any official announcements. Other legislators, including Rep. Livvy Floren of Greenwich, Sen. Gary LeBeau of East Windsor, and Sen. Jason Welch of Bristol, are not seeking reelection.
Rats leaving a sinking ship, no doubt. Not that it will have any effect upon their future prosecution under the Law of Unintended Consequences. Only one thing, which is entirely within your control, might. But more of that in a minute as well.
On your behalf, in order to save yourselves from yourselves, I have even written "An Open Letter to the Men and Women of the Connecticut State Police," telling them that they are NOT the enemy of the firearms owners of your state unless they choose to be.   (11)  A crucial passage from that letter bears quoting to you.
Now let's examine those numbers in the Courant story. You know the size of the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection. Wikipedia tells us that "CSP currently has approximately 1,248 troopers, and is headquartered in Middletown, Connecticut. It is responsible for protecting the Governor of Connecticut, Lieutenant Governor of Connecticut, and their families." There are but 1,212 email addresses listed on the state website to which this email is going, which presumably includes everyone including secretaries, receptionists, file clerks, technicians, etc. Now, how many shooters for raid parties you may find among that one thousand, two hundred and forty eight that Wikipedia cites, or whatever number will be on the payroll when something stupid happens, only you know for sure. I'll let you do the counting. They are daunting odds in any case, and as you will see, they get more daunting as we go down this road that Malloy and Company have arranged for you. (By the way, don't forget to subtract those on the Green Zone protective details, for your political masters will certainly see their survival as your mission number one.) So, how many folks would your superiors be interested in seeing you work their will upon? And of these, how many will fight regardless of cost?
Let's assume that there are 100,000 non-compliant owners of military pattern semi-automatic rifles in your state. I think it is a larger number but 100,000 has a nice round ring to it. Let us then apply the rule of three percent to that number -- not to the entire population of your state, not even to the number of firearm owners, but just to that much smaller demonstrated number of resistors. That leaves you with at least 3,000 men and women who will shoot you if you try to enforce this intolerable act upon them. Of course you will have to come prepared to shoot them. That's a given. They know this. So please understand: THEY. WILL. SHOOT. YOU. (In what they believe is righteous self defense.) Now, if any of them follow Bill Clinton's rules of engagement and utilize the principles of 4th Generation Warfare, after the first shots are fired by your raid parties, they will not be home when you come to call. These people will be targeting, according to the 4GW that many of them learned while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, the war makers who sent you. This gets back to that "when democracy turns to tyranny, the armed citizenry still gets to vote." One ballot, or bullet, at a time.
As I told the state troopers, this is all hypothetical for now, dependent upon your own appetites for bloodshed in furtherance of your tyrannical will. If you require explanation of Fourth Generation Warfare in an American context, please consult the introduction to my upcoming novel Absolved: "Tyrants beware. 4th Generation Warfare: How the next civil war will be fought." (12)
Of Absolved, I wrote:
I can only hope that readers will take my own “useful dire warning” more seriously. If one does ultimately break out, I will be as guilty of fomenting it as Tom Clancy was guilty of 9/11 -- which is to say not at all. It is precisely what I am trying to avoid. . .
And so it is with this letter. Again, I am trying to avoid bloodshed. The problem is that you "tyrannical morons" (as I called you in my speech last April with less Christian charity than I might have mustered) seem intent, at least from the statements of your creature Mike "KGB" Lawlor and those of Ron Pinciaro (to whom you seem to be dancing to his tune) are intent on working your will upon Connecticut citizens at the muzzle of a state-owned firearm -- a few thousand state-owned firearms to be precise.
Look. You screwed up. You allowed yourselves to be stampeded in the wake of an incident of incomparable evil into attacking precisely the wrong people -- law abiding Connecticut gun owners -- by true believers in citizen disarmament like Lawlor and Pinciaro with their own agenda, state power over the individual. Of course some of you fall into that same category but the rest of you are what most politicians across the country are: well-intentioned people (Lenin called such folks "useful idiots"), responsive to the last constituent phone call you received yet barely literate in your own state's history and the Constitution you took an oath to preserve. This comes at a time when the country is dividing along the lines of the answer to the question, "does the government serve the people, or do the people serve the government?"
We are at a crossroads. You, in the arrogance of your power and your ignorance of the people you seek to dominate are extrapolating from your own cowardice -- you believe that just because the government orders these folks to knuckle under that they will do so BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT YOU WOULD DO. You mistake them, and your mistake is, in the fullness of time, going to get people killed. And who do you think these people who you victimize -- these people who you will have state agents seek to round up and kill -- who do you think they are going to blame for that? It doesn't take Madame Lawlor and his crystal ball to predict that such people -- victimized by their own state authorities in an unconstitutional law that likely will be found to be null and void anyway -- will blame the people who sent the killers. Which is to say, you. (13)
This is deadly serious stuff, this foray into an undiscovered country that you have so blithely entered upon, like blind men and women tap dancing in a minefield you scarcely comprehend. Fully eighty-five percent of the people you targeted with the law -- the people that YOU AND YOU ALONE made into lawbreakers -- have just told you by their noncompliance to take your unconstitutional law and stick it where the sun don't shine. Does that not tell you ANYTHING? These people are ARMED. They are familiar with the finer points of marksmanship. They are principled in a way that perhaps only the Founders would understand -- at the risk of their own lives. So what part of "Oh, HELL no" don't you understand? You have been playing with titanic forces. You are going to send armed agents of the state to their doors to work your collective and collectivist will upon THEM? You have unintentionally sown the wind and if things go predictably south you will reap the whirlwind.
BUT IT IS WITHIN YOUR POWER TO REVERSE. You own the weather machine, as it were. I'm not asking you to repeal the law, although that makes perfect sense to me. No, I realize that too much of your ego, your own false vision of omnipotence is wrapped up in it to do THAT. What I am asking you to do -- no, what I am BEGGING you to do -- is to use your power to suspend the enforcement of that Intolerable Act at least until it is ruled constitutional or not by the United States Supreme Court. "An unconstitutional law is null and void." Do you really wish to risk death and destruction upon innocent people -- upon us all -- on a bet against the odds? Is your appetite for your own citizens' liberty, property and lives that insatiable? Or now, as the likely unintended consequences of your actions have been directly explained to you, are you willing to reconsider the menu choices? What will your political fortunes be when the first shots are exchanged over this? When the first innocents are killed in carrying out your will? What will your arrogance, your ignorance, your insufferable pride be worth to you then? What will it be worth to any of us? Starting a bloody civil war seems an odd way to avoid "violence against children."

"Up yours, Connecticut."

Conn. can try to confiscate guns, magazines, but threatened owners have options

"Your automobile is not your property." Uniformed thug Bobby Timmons here in Alabama demonstrates all the principled intelligence typical of his kind.

"Boss Hogg": Bobby Timmons of the Alabama Sheriff's Association.
Just to demonstrate that Connecticut doesn't have a monopoly on uniformed thug thinking: Gun owners, sheriffs debate allowing loaded guns in cars without permits
"I don't think this has anything to do with the Second amendment when you have the right to carry this weapon off your property. Your automobile is not your property," said Bobby Timmons, executive director of the Sheriff's Association.
The deal is, this is about the right of small-town, light-population-density county sheriffs to tax the shit out of lawful firearm owners in order to support their bloated lifestyles. The Sheriff's Association has always been the worst opponent of open carry in this state for that precise reason. And now they are in desperation saying that "Your automobile is not your property"???? Really?
As the friend who forwarded this to me wrote:
We have GOT to find the video of Bobby Timmons actually saying this. It didn't make it into the clip on the 33-40 page but I saw video of him actually saying it during the 9:30 Fox 6 newscast. . . (I)f my vehicle isn't my private property then why has the Supreme Court ruled probable cause or a warrant is required to search it? We need to make that quisling own his tyrant attitude.
Agreed. I've got some other fish to fry right now, but if the Alabama open carry community doesn't do that they're missing a great opportunity.

ATF agents lost track of dozens of their own guns, reports show

ATF agents have lost track of dozens of government-issued guns, after stashing them under the front seats in their cars, in glove compartments or simply leaving them on top of their vehicles and driving away, according to internal reports from the past five years obtained by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Agents left their guns behind in bathroom stalls, at a hospital, outside a movie theater and on a plane, according to the records, obtained Tuesday by the news organization under the federal Freedom of Information Act.

Bob Owens: Botched registration leads to confiscation in Connecticut

Gun owners sat on their butts and refused to register either arms or magazines, all but daring the state to do anything about it. Of the estimated 375,000-400,000 firearms deemed “assault weapons” by the state, more than 325,000 remain undocumented. Only about 50,000 were registered for future confiscation. The requirement to register standard capacity magazines was laughed at even louder by the citizenry; just 38,000 (less than 2 percent) of an estimated 2 million standard capacity magazines holding greater than ten rounds of ammunition were registered with the state.

Rabidly anti-gun 'Mike the Gun Guy' deliberately asks the wrong questions

When Weisser asks if "guns [make] it harder to walk away from a fight," and if it's a mistake to "give civilians the right to walk around with a gun," he leads the public away from such questions as how to reconcile government issued permission slips for exercising the right to bear arms, with shall not be infringed; or, for that matter, why anyone who values gun rights should patronize and thus support a so-called "gun guy" (and deadbeat?) who has dedicated himself to undermining those rights. That's a guy who would prefer to not have to worry about answers.

Ukrainians demand gun rights as Venezuelans remain silent on issue

In the wake of public unrest where the government used deadly force against protestors, the Ukrainian Gun Owners Association has proposed an amendment to the nation’s constitution, Townhall.com News Editor Katie Pavlich reported Monday. "Everyone has the right to freedom of owning a firearm to protect their life and health, housing and property, life and health of other people's constitutional rights and freedoms in the case of usurpation of power, the encroachments on the constitutional order, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine,” the proposed amendment reads. “Exercising the right to free possession of firearms is governed by applicable law and may be limited only by the court on the individual."

A Sipsey Street Public Service Announcement: The Connecticut Tyrants List, voluntarily subscribed by the participants on 3 April 2013.

The state of Connecticut is making lists of firearm owners to raid. It seems obvious to me that it is thus only fair to list those anti-constitutional tyrants who will have blood on their hands the moment the first Connecticut citizen is shot by the CT state police while carrying out their orders. I will be sending these folks my own email later today.

The tyrannical bastards continue to push. Mike "KGB" Lawlor issues a bold prediction.

REQUEST: Will a reader who has a subscription to the Manchester CT Journal Inquirer please send me a complete copy of this story?
Connecticut sends out the first confiscation letters.
Gun confiscations is one step closer in Connecticut. The mainstream media spins it as “one more chance” for non-compliant gun owners who failed to register their scary guns before the January 1 deadline.
In reality, these letters - 106 to rifle owners, and 108 more to residents with standard capacity magazines – are the first step in the Connecticut State Police beginning to round up guns arbitrarily made illegal last year in that state. These guns include America’s favorite rifle, the AR-15 and magazines over 10 rounds, which include the standard capacity magazines made for that America’s favorite rifle.
Failure to register is now a felony now in Connecticut.
How long will it be before there is bloodshed over this law? We’re not sure, but we’re confident it is coming unless the law is rescinded or struck down by the courts.
Mike Vanderboegh of the edgy Sipsey Street Irregulars released an open letter a couple of weeks ago, warning of what’s coming to Connecticut. The Connecticut State Police aren’t listening. Yet.
LATER: The relevant text of the cited article --
By Ed Jacovino Journal Inquirer
When state officials decided to accept some gun registrations and magazine declarations that arrived after a Jan. 4 deadline, they also had to deal with those applications that didn’t make the cut.
The state now holds signed and notarized letters saying those late applicants own rifles and magazines illegally.
But rather than turn that information over to prosecutors, state officials are giving the gun owners a chance to get rid of the weapons and magazines.
The state is sending letters to 106 rifle owners and 108 residents with high-capacity magazines saying they can destroy the guns and ammunition, sell them to a federally licensed gun dealer, move the items out of state or sell them to somebody out of state, or make arrangements to turn them over to local or state police.
Those who fail to do so could face serious criminal penalties.
Once people realize they can’t keep the guns and magazines, “they’re going to get rid of them,” Michael P. Lawlor, the undersecretary for criminal justice policy and planning to Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, says.
Late applicants
The Department of Emergency Management and Public Protection initially set a Jan 1 registration date for owners to declare guns and ammunition.
But 266 rifle registrations and 506 magazine declarations made it to the state with postmarks after Jan. 1, and gun owners complained that post offices had closed early and without notice on Dec. 31.
Lawmakers thought they’d need to pass a bill so the state could count all or some of those applications or extend the deadline. But Gov. Dannel P. Malloy decided this month that legislation wasn’t needed — as long as applications were postmarked by Jan. 4 and signed before Jan. 1, the state would accept them.
And while the state won’t immediately prosecute those who missed the deadline, it isn’t ignoring that information, either.
The rifle and magazine declarations will be included in information given to police responding to a certain address. “This would be a factor in deciding how to respond to different situations,” Lawlor says.
Ron Pinciaro, executive director of the Connecticut Coalition Against Gun Violence, says the administration’s approach of sending a warning letter is suitable.
“It’s fair.
State lawmakers passed a law last year in response to the 2012 Newtown school shootings that banned the sale of some rifles and of magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. But they allowed those who own the guns and magazines to keep them as long as they registered the items with the state by Jan. 1. State residents registered 50,016 rifles. In addition, 38,290 Connecticut residents said they have high-capacity magazines.

12 Weapons That Changed Everything

Just as there is a through line that stretches from the Sears catalog to Amazon.com, there is an equally clear line from the sword to the predator drone.
"Why, this is so simple even a hobbit could use it."

It is evident that Comrade Carl Woodward doesn't appreciate informed criticism.

CORRECTION: I originally wrote: "Any comments I post here are deleted immediately. He evidently didn't like my riposte Ideological onanism: "Resistance is Futile" Collectivist named Carl Woodward defeats an entire army of "Republican Fascist" strawmen and becomes a legend in his own mind." This was incorrect. Somehow I missed that he actually allowed the link post but I am now informed that he also linked to the SPLC "intelligence" report on me. Well, he would, wouldn't he? My point remains that Comrade Carl has refused to respond to my email or deal with any of the issues I've raised directly with me. Thus, my email below still remains correct. He's a radish. Karl Marx must be shaking his head in disappointment.
I sent Comrade Carl this email:

You know, red on the outside, white on the inside. Are you so squishy you can't defend the lies anymore? Can't stand informed criticism? What would Marx say of such a cowardly performance?

Mark Witaschek faces six months in jail for unregistered ammunition but no gun

Must be a smuggler's moon. A full post office box today, God bless you all.

From William in AZ I received lead, plus a marvelous copper token. From Colorado Patriot we got some politician grade AR mags and the postage to send them on. From Mark in NY we got a wonderful note, even more postage plus some .50 BMG brass, which set me to thinking about another angle with a working title of "One Hundred Heads Life & Casualty Company promotional trinkets" or maybe "Once fired brass for tyrants." From Bondmen we received his shipment from APEX Gun parts of ten Kalashnikov 30-rounders (10 for $90 special). They look great, real "freedom fighter grade" stuff. I'll get them in the smuggler's pipeline. This time probably to New Jersey. God bless you, sir. From Jeff in MN we got some AR mags and from Geoff in PA, we received some freedom-fighter grade AR/M16 mags. And from Dennis in CO and Kathy in Illinois we received generous subscription donations in addition to some uplifting sentiments. May God bless and keep you all. The smuggling route is now back in business for a little while.

Tell me again, all you prags and Fudds, how we can count on the black robes to protect our natural, God-given and inalienable rights.

No, really, tell me -- Supreme Court ducks three gun cases.
Considering the slim 5 - 4 majority rulings in the two most recent Second Amendment cases, and noting that elections have consequences (as Republicans appear to be doing their best to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory), it may be preferable for gun owners if a decision from SCOTUS would come sooner rather than later. Regardless, all the court need do at present to ensure the continuation of Second Amendment infringements is ... nothing, as they just demonstrated.

Martin "Póg mo thóin" O'Malley's presidential wet dream.

Readers may recall my letter to Maryland Governor O'Malley during the Toys for Totalitarians campaign: "Póg mo thóin." Toys for Totalitarians delivery hits Maryland. My question for Gov. O'Malley: “Why is this idiot smiling?” As I wrote at the time:
We all know you are term-limited and cannot seek another stint as Maryland governor, but your presidential aspirations are almost legendary. I have to ask: What is it about you anti-firearm governors? You, Cuomo of New York, Malloy of Connecticut -- all of you all have the out-sized egos and even larger appetites for power that make you believe that you deserve to rightfully sit in George Washington’s chair. Even Hicklenlooper of Colorado, as disingenuously coy as he is, believes he belongs there and would drop his faux modesty in a New York minute if he thought he had the poll numbers. And all of you apparently think that citizen disarmament is a winning national issue that will get you to the Oval Office. One must ask, what are you all smoking? I have before me a copy of the photo of you at the bill signing ceremony on 16 May 2013. You are, as my Michigan farmer grandpa used to say, “grinning like a chimp.” Yet, as Emily Miller wrote in the Washington Times then:
“Mr. O’Malley’s legacy will be an angry citizenry who lost their constitutional rights, firearm manufacturers taking jobs out of state and no change in the crime. He will have to justify this rash move to voters in his try for higher office.”
Indeed you will. Of course, your national aspirations are hardly matched by your name recognition, but then you no doubt are hoping for some of Mike Bloomberg’s millions to help you correct that inconvenient disparity. And should your darkest of dark horse candidacies look like it has a prayer in 2016, no doubt Bloomie’s campaign donations will flow into your war chest. No doubt your attacks on the traditional liberties of American firearm owners are no impediment to success in any Democrat primary. If there’s one thing you collectivists agree upon it is disarming those who disagree with you politically. But just how do you think that will play in the general election? So, I look at your happy face as you signed a bill subverting the constitutional rights of your fellow Marylanders and I ask myself, “Why is this idiot smiling?”
Now we have Maryland media all atwitter with this story, "Gov. Martin O’Malley for president?" and this one, "Martin O’Malley Tempted For 2016 Presidential Race."
The Governor’s popularity is increasing and his approval numbers have been rising as he nears the culmination of his tenure in Maryland. 55 percent of Maryland residents approve of how Governor O’Malley is handling the executive seat of the state. His approval rating is a six-point increase from the previous year. Last year, Governor Martin O’Malley was the center of legislative quarrels involving the repealing of Maryland’s death penalty, passing stricter gun control laws and was leading an effort to legalize same-sex marriage. His approval numbers as governor have tempted him to make a run in the 2016 presidential race.
While Governor O’Malley is enjoying inspiring job approval numbers, his approval falls along party lines at the end of the day. He is now pushing for an increase in the state’s minimum wage law – possibly the most partisan policy in politics. The breadth of this policy gap has turned him into one the most polarizing governors in the country.
At the end of the day, however, those poll numbers are hostage to the first deaths caused by his state police enforcing his firearm tyranny. This is the wet dream of arrogant appetite in search of his next political meal ticket. It will end, at best, merely with stained sheets. We may only hope they are not blood-stained as well. "Póg mo thóin" indeed.

"Americans rising up against government."

Three examples of pushback against the ruling class.

Personally, I'm gonna miss him.

Piers Morgan and CNN Plan End to His Prime-Time Show.
“Look, I am a British guy debating American cultural issues, including guns, which has been very polarizing, and there is no doubt that there are many in the audience who are tired of me banging on about it,” he said. “That’s run its course."
Who will we get to take his place?

'Progressive' writer's biggest objection to 2nd Amnd. is best reason it's needed

(A)ctually, it's a good thing that the gun ban zealots are now reduced to screeching for the repeal or evisceration of the Second Amendment, because that indicates that they finally realize that their attempts to claim that it never really protected private ownership of firearms have ignominiously failed.

Colt appears to be moving forward with military weapons facility in Kissimmee

Colt's letter explains a merger between two companies under the Colt name caused major delays in pending projects like the one in Kissimmee. Now that it's been settled and the newly formed Colt's Manufacturing Company LLC has every intention of moving in this year.

Gun Control Activists Petition Visa to Ditch the NRA

Sigh.

Ideological onanism: "Resistance is Futile" Collectivist named Carl Woodward defeats an entire army of "Republican Fascist" strawmen and becomes a legend in his own mind.

War is an ugly thing but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feelings which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. — John Stuart Mill
The attack of the "fascist" strawmen.
carlwoodward12@gmail.com
Dear Comrade Carl,
Several of my friends forwarded to me your column "Militant Republicans: Nope, you aren’t going to overthrow the government." They tend to take such "resistance is futile" columns seriously, and thus, they were taking you seriously. You describe yourself as a "freelance political consultant and campaign strategist in Northern Virginia." Ah, but comrade, you are so much more, and less, than that, now aren't you?
For a guy who describes himself elsewhere as a "hard-line leftist eagerly looking forward to the dictatorship of the proletariat" on a radio show that uses for its theme music The Internationale, well, "freelance political consultant" sort of underplays your ideology, doesn't it?
I paid you the compliment of listening to that show, and picked up that your main mission, as you stated it, was "holding the fascists at bay" and that "I'm okay with partisan if you're playing for the right team." You also stated that "ideas of freedom and liberty can be used to advocate whatever they want it to" and that you were impatiently "waiting for capitalism to dig its own grave."
You further stated that "we (Americans) are the parasites who are living off poor slaves in China" and that "the U.S. is a global parasite." Your unabashed socialist advocacy is quaint, if still dangerous. As I explained in a talk in New York state last year, the difference between communists and socialists is that a socialist is a communist who has not yet found his AK-47 or the will to use it, whereas a communist is a socialist who has his AK-47 firmly in hand and murder in his eye -- for the dictatorship of the proletariat, or the "New Soviet Man" or whatever collectivist lie the party, any party, is pushing these days.
Well, okay then. I'm rather in the middle of a lot of things right now, so I was reluctant to waste time on another muddle-headed firearms confiscationist extrapolating from his own cowardice the omnipotence of the federal government. However, since you have in these other venues more honestly outed yourself as a Marxist collectivist, if not a communist, then I AM the right guy to engage you, for I am an ex-communist myself, and I know all the lies -- especially the ones collectivists tell themselves as well as those they tell to others in service to advancing the "dictatorship of the proletariat."
Your first lie is found in the headline to your jeremiad, addressing it to something called "Militant Republicans." Since you capitalized the word, I'm assuming you meant members of the GOP in which case the term is an oxymoron on its face -- in 20 years I cannot recall meeting someone from that nis-named party who carried a GOP card and was by any description "militant" -- they are to a man, spineless, gutless, compromise-addicted Caspar Milquetoasts. Now I am a small "r" republican, in that I believe in the rule of law and the Founders' Republic, in free men and women and free markets, and that the Constitution extends to everyone regardless of race, creed, color or religion. In proof of that assertion, I am proud to present as evidence the certainty that I have been on the enemies lists of the previous three White Houses, regardless of party.
As we both know, the collectivist use of language is the principal way the argument is won, by framing the "reality" within it ahead of time -- intellectual preparation of the battlefield, as it were. This is where the term "assault rifle" came from, applied to semi-automatic rifles by your fellow collectivist Josh Sugarmann in order to advance his firearm confiscationist agenda. Thus your use of terms such as "militant Republican" and "fascist" is designed to create the strawmen you intend to defeat. Perfectly understandable, but not very admirable in someone who styles himself as an "intellectual." Facile and sloppy, really.
Here is the next series of lies, all in one paragraph:
This is the psychology of fascism. Like most psychological disorders, you can’t argue with it. You can only give these people a reality check, and remind them that democracy isn’t here to protect liberals from their rightful right-wing overlords. It’s here to protect the right, too.
Okay, let's take these lies ad seriatim. First, is the application of "fascism" to folks who do not seek to dictate anything but are largely motivated by the desire to be left alone by an oppressive regime. The second is to characterize their beliefs in terms of mental disorder -- another favorite communist tactic. Third, you speak of "reality checks" in the same sentence as "democracy" but then we've already established out of your own mouth that you don't believe in "democracy" but rather in the dictatorship of the proletariat. Your abuse of the term democracy is of a part with "militant" and "fascist" -- just one more lie of false terminology to defeat your strawman opponent army. As far as "reality checks" go, I'll have more on that in a bit -- for you.
Your ignorance of military affairs as applied to what no doubt would be a Fourth Generation Warfare-style civil war in the United States is laughable. You may begin your tutorial with: "Tyrants beware. 4th Generation Warfare: How the next civil war will be fought."
Mind, at least you didn't threaten us with the omnipotence of the federal government and their big, bad invincible army as most of you "resistance is futile" types do. In any case, the military is made up, especially in the tip-of-the-spear outfits, mostly of OUR sons and daughters. We're the ones who raise our kids with the idea of service to the Republic. Issue them orders to go kill grandpa for the temerity of owning something the regime has decided he shouldn't have and see which way the government-issue rifles get pointed.
But then you don't believe there are enough of us who possess the courage of our convictions to resist. Strangely, this defeatism bleeds over to you own side when you said on the radio show: "I really do not see the people with their pitchforks doing anything about the elites."
Yes, but then we don't limit ourselves to pitchforks, do we?
You say in your article: "If the right ever gets around to exercising those 'Second Amendment remedies' . . . there isn’t going to be much of an America left to save." True, if it is fought according to Third Generation Warfare principles, but it won't be. Fourth Generation Warfare has for its strategic target the few inches of grey matter between the ears of the enemy war makers and decision takers. This target can either be influenced by moral suasion, inducement of fear of personal survival, or -- failing that -- directly by a precision-guided MatchKing bullet out of the rifle of a citizen. No collateral damage necessary. As I have written and said many times before:
They will fight to the last ATF agent or to the last oath-breaking soldier. Will they fight to the first senior bureaucrat, the second Congressman, the third newspaper editor, the fourth Senator, the fifth White House aide? Can they stand Bill Clinton's rules of engagement?
Since I am in a bit of hurry to get back to my work, I'll refer you to my essay on 4GW cited above for Bill Clinton's rules of engagement as they apply to you. Just understand that they DO apply to you. So it is not necessary for armed resistors to regime tyranny to kill indiscriminately as governments do. It is only necessary that they kill enough, well, people like you. Intellectual apologists of mass murder. Collectivist liars demonizing their enemies. Supporters, no doubt, of a "democratically elected" benevolent government's untrammeled right to attack its deranged, fascist opponents. Oh, you didn't mean that? Well, you'd better explain that to somebody before it's too late, hadn't you? That is a "reality check" you'd better contemplate.
You see, they don't look at it as "overthrowing the government." As I explained in my speech at the Alamo last October, they view your ilk as the revolutionaries who have been attacking the Founder's Republic quietly for over a century. They are in fact counter-revolutionaries to the collectivists' revolution. They are fighting for a restoration of the Founders' Republic.
My advice to you? If you can't give up Marxism, then at least try not to piss these people off by calling them lying names. There always is that Law of Unintended Consequences, isn't there? And these folks ain't no army of strawmen.
Sincerely,
Mike Vanderboegh

Ammo: How Much Is Enough When Carrying for Self Defense?

Remember, no survivor of a gunfight has ever wished he had gone into the fight with less ammunition.
For the KelTec P3AT (6 rds + 1) that I habitually carry in my right pants pocket, I have a spare 6-round mag of XTP .380 in my left. However, that is only to ensure that I have a clear path to the loaded Taurus PT-145 (10 rds + 1) in the center compartment of my man bag, which has nestled next to it a spare belt carrier with two mags. There are two other loaded spare mags in pockets on the inner portion of the bag. Hence, at any given time when I am out I have immediate access to 13 rds of XTP .380 and somewhat delayed access to 51 rds of .45 XTP. (On trips I throw a 50-round box of each caliber in the bag as refills JIC, and another spare loaded magazine for the KelTec.)
If I'm headed out of town, a folding stock AK and a Mossberg 500 go in the trunk. The AK fits nicely into an M60 barrel bag, with one loaded five rounder in the mag well, and a thirty rounder and a forty rounder in the side pockets of the bag. Next to it, I throw in a Chinese 5 pocket magazine pouch with shoulder strap. Total: 225 rounds 7.62x39 ball. The Mossberg riot gun rests in a soft-side guitar case with a bandoleer/belt made up of a mixture USGI and civilian shotgun pouches (don't believe in open loop Mexican bandido bandoleers since my experiences in the 90s showed that I could never find one that didn't shed rounds while maneuvering like Hansel and Gretal dropping a trail of bread crumbs). Also in the bag is an extra USGI 7-pocket bandoleer containing 5-round boxes of 2.75" 00 buckshot. All told there is something on the order of 110 rounds of 12 Gauge 2.75" and 3" buckshot and slugs (even some birdshot) in the case.
As Bubba said to Forrest Gump, "That's, that's about it."

Well, I guess that "crack down" didn't work out the way Putin figured. Next question: Are the Soviet, er, ah, Russian, tanks going to roll?

Ukraine crisis: Opposition asserts authority in Kiev

Praxis: Experience with AR MagPul Enhanced Self-Leveling Followers & Wolff spring replacements in AR & AK mags?

A reader writes to say that he has a few hundred USGI M16 mags that he picked up for a song years ago. All are vintage with the old-style followers and springs which may or may not work reliably. He also has numbers of ComBloc surplus AK47 mags. He asks: "Do you know if the replacement of the USGI followers with MagPuls and Wolff springs (Approx. $2 each plus $5 each) is worth the extra money?" He also asks if anyone has experience with Wolff springs in AK47 mags? Again, is it worth the investment? Another reader and recipient of some smuggled USGI AR mags in Colorado asks a similar question. Since the acquisition cost for him is zero, $7.00 per mag sounds cheap to me IF the result is reliable. Anyone with experience in mag rebuilding have any guidance for these fellers? Further, I'm curious if there is any place that offers these products at a volume discount? In doing research for this post, all I could find for the followers was packs of three and packs of ten for the springs from Wolff.
Also, now that my curiosity was aroused by their questions and my cursory search on the subject, I wondered if anyone made a M16 feed lip inspection tool for civilian sale as described on pages 13-15 here and if anyone had experience with the Brownells AR15 magazine feed lip tool.

Anti-gun California political powerhouses indicted on corruption charges

California State Senator Ron Calderon and his brother, former Assemblyman Tom Calderon, have been indicted on political corruption charges resulting from an FBI investigation, the Los Angeles Daily News/Whittier Daily News reported Friday, citing what officials call “the largest insurance fraud case to date in California.

Statist Republicans Kill ‘Constitutional Carry’ Bill In South Carolina

A bill that would allow South Carolinians to carry guns openly or concealed without first receiving the State’s sanction through a permit was killed by Republicans. It failed to advance out of the State’s Judiciary Committee — despite a large Republican majority — under strong opposition from Republican Senator Larry Martin.

Unintended consequences indeed. Obama is best gun salesman -- ever.

Record U.S. Gun Production as Obama ‘Demonized’ on Issue
U.S. gun makers led by Sturm Ruger & Co. and Smith & Wesson Holding Corp. (SWHC) churned out a record number of firearms in 2012, government data show, continuing a trend of robust production during Democratic presidencies.
More than 8.57 million guns were produced in 2012, up 31 percent from 6.54 million in 2011, according to data released this week by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, which has been tracking the statistics since 1986.
Almost as many guns -- 26.1 million -- were produced during Democrat Barack Obama’s first term as president as during the entire eight-year presidency of his Republican predecessor, George W. Bush, the ATF data show. . .
Obama isn’t the only Democratic president to see a spike in gun production. More than 33 million firearms were manufactured during Democrat Bill Clinton’s two terms, which was more than the 28 million produced during Bush’s presidency. Just over 16 million firearms were manufactured during Republican George H.W. Bush’s single term.
Clinton antagonized gun-rights groups by pressing for stricter gun control. He signed legislation mandating background checks on firearm purchases and a ban on assault weapons. The ban expired in 2004.
