Well, I guess that "crack down" didn't work out the way Putin figured. Next question: Are the Soviet, er, ah, Russian, tanks going to roll?

Good to see they won, at least in the short haul. I'm sure Putin is not happy but we shall see I guess.

Watched a film clip of civilians being shot by snipers yesterday. I would demand their identities and suitable death sentences carried out post haste. An example must be made of soldiers who cowardly shoot civilians with sniper rifles for target practice. Reference Nuremberg ....

We'll see. What you wanna bet that quietly, all the opposition disappears, one by one and two by two?

We'll see but I bet we'll have to watch overseas media to do so.

I cannot fathom the eastern part of Ukraine still being pro-soviet. Tens of millions of Ukrainians were murdered, starved or shipped off to Siberia on Stalin's orders. Among the dead, there had to be grandparents of the current population. Yet, the eastern part has obviously forgotten this holocaust. The best way to stop a Russian (Soviet)invasion is for Ukraine to quickly split and become two nations. The western part, politically attaching itself to the EU, and the east kissing Russia's ass. For the record, the western part of Ukraine politically moving toward a relationship with the EU, is bargaining with the devil. The EU sucks as much as the Sovs.

They will pull another Georgia. They can be free. Right up until Putin says they can't.

From my understanding, Yanukovych was supported by the nation's plutocrats and ethnic Russoans, primarily from the east.

Tymoshenko is out of hospital (prison), and has a lot of support.

My guess is we will see an effort at secession from eastern regions with the protection of Russia, much as happened in Georgia.

I am glad to see no more people got killed.

I hope Barry Soetoro is watching.

In response to SWIFT'S comment, there are two reasons why eastern Ukrainians might lean toward Russia: 1) many are ethnically Russian, their families having moved from Russia to the Ukraine while the latter was still part of the USSR, and 2) some people, though ethnically Ukrainian, may consider themselves Russian by language and culture. My former mother-in-law was one of these, even though her family suffered in the Holodomor of the 1930s. In many respects, the distinction between Russian and Ukrainian ethnicity has been blurred by intermarriage. Most Ukrainians have some Russian ancestry, and vice versa. One of the oldest sayings in the Russian language is, "All roads lead to Kiev."

I do hope the Ukrainian "revolution" succeeds, but Putin is well aware of Obama's weaknesses. Tanks are not out of the question, though I believe the Ukrainians will fight.

My guess is sometime after the closing ceremony perhaps a day or two you should see some type of emergency declaration from Putin that in order to save ethnic Russians he is sending in a peace keeping force of tanks, Mi-24 hinds and some special forces to "restore order" and secure the natural gas resources. But that's just my 2 cents....
