As the only law enforcement official who is elected by the people, the Sheriff has authority over all other law enforcement in his county. That includes State and National.
This is definitely a step in the right direction. Now if only they'd refuse to enforce laws against ALL victimless crimes, that would go a long way toward making America into a free country that respects its own Bill of Rights.

Well, they get to choose which laws they follow. The essence of 'law and order', I guess.

Not so where I live (Alameda Co., California). Am glad it is not so here!
