'Government monopoly on force,' as demanded by CSGV, on display in Ferguson, MO

You want to know why, the Bundy ranch guardians were able to make the government back down, while Ferguson residents remain under the government's jackboots, CSGV? It's because at the Bundy ranch, the government knew that they would not enjoy a "monopoly on force"--that they would pay for their excesses in blood, more of it than they were willing to lose. The Ferguson cops, on the other hand, clearly like their overwhelming edge in firepower. That's your "government monopoly on force," CSGV. Own it.

The picture of the 'sniper'sitting on top of the Police armoured vehicle with rifle mounted upon a tripod is telling.

He planned to go into action against protesters like that because he does not expect to be shot at.

... well, buddy - some of us have ort-six hunting rifles; not poodle-shooters! Easy target ... go home and think again.

Anon @ 6:10 - Two entirely different environments. Bundy was patriots coming together to defend a man getting stepped on by fed.gov who knew his rights and was willing to fight for them.
Ferguson folks are lower income or unemployed minorities pissed because a cop shot one of their bro's after he "allegedly" committed a robbery and assault. These particular folks appear to have no understanding or appreciation of the constitution or role of the 2nd Amendment in civil affairs.
I suspect if the demonstrators has headed home after the flash bangs started going off and returned locked and loaded ready and WILLING to party......well maybe the situation would have resolved somewhat less one sided.

Yes, Panda. Two different environments but the point is that the Police sniper is prepared to shoot people he does not even consider are a threat to him - otherwise why the exposed pose?

If command put him there as an intimidatory tactic then they too either did not expect him to be shot at - or put him there as a big blue target ...

Interesting that an earlier photo showed this officer "glassing" the crowd or individuals through the optic on his rifle.

I have to wonder if officer realize that is is an act of aggression. If I see anyone being "glassed" I will assume that they are under attack. If these amateurs don't have binos it is time that someone that knows what the hell is going on provides them with some.

Glassing begets glassing. Glassing begets shooting.

Hey panda - they think rioting and looting IS their recourse. While not constitutional, it is what they have been taught.

What I'm getting a kick out of is this.
They are ALL wrong down there. The peeps is wrong, the JBT action is wrong. The gentle giant was wrong and hassling a dude walking in the street was wrong. Looting is wrong and gassing people is wrong. Hiding information is wrong and refusing to admit what video shows is wrong. Removing a sheriff and installing state police is wrong. Putting in a black man BECAUSE he's black is wrong.

Here's a thought. Let's start doing right instead of all this foolishness. It will only get worse until we do. I predict what's next - a cop, a white one, is gonna get killed. The mob wants it's race based lynching and it will have it. Mr Reporter had better understand, he may be be viewed as "Leo" too.

All it will take is one brother to say "F this" and open up on the cops with his 9 for this to turn bloody. At the Bundy Ranch things could have gone south just as fast if one Jared Miller had been in the crowd.

Anon @ 8/15/14 at 11:42- I agree the cop clearly thought intimidation was enough. Would have been slightly amusing if he'd been proven wrong, eh? On a side note, I don't remember cops during the RKR in 92 acting this stupid tactically. Yes, I know they simply pulled out when the going got too tough but does that imply rioters were a bit more "badass" back then and less willing to put up with this kind of stupidity on the cops part? Something to ponder.

"Hey panda - they think rioting and looting IS their recourse. While not constitutional, it is what they have been taught"

Totally agree, sir. Which is what I sort of alluded to in terms of their attitude towards civil disobedience. There's a right way and a wrong way to do it. If you truly think you're in the right, looting should not be part of your tactics. And if you're not prepared to go medieval on your opponents ass IF HE STARTS THE BALL ROLLING, well maybe you should just stay home and watch American Idol?

Anyone instructed in gun safety knows that you don't use your rifle's scope to look at things unless you have already decided the "thing" is a target. When you're just surveying the landscape, you use optics separate from the rifle scope, like your binoculars, for example. That way, you're not pointing the muzzle of your gun toward something you don't intend to shoot. Even when you're on a deer stand, it is not safe to other humans in the area when you use your rifle's scope to look around.

I find it interesting to see everyone from Obama to NPR bemoaning the proliferation of military hardware in police hands. I wonder how long it will take them to blame it on the previous administration.

They are just upset that this is happening to people that are not gun owners. If they started machine gunning US down we all know how happy they would be.

FYI; a single tire on one of those armored vehicles costs in the realm of $10,000-$12,000. Most police forces that get these types of vehicles are smaller and simply do not have the budget to replace them consistently. Food for thought.

Rick: That's been an issue with too many of the 'I wish I wuz a soldier' cops. Muzzling/glassing, that is.

Bad,bad,bad cops.
Poor,poor,poor unemployed blacks.

Look at some of the left's blogs-go to CPUSA peoples world and small talk blog--this is a setup--a crisis not allowed to go to waste--a Van Jones Stormfront dream come true.

These are abnormal times we live in when Second Amendment conservative patriots are demonizing the police along with the commies.

For Anon @ 0811 on 8/16,

Here's a thought. Perhaps - JUST perhaps - somebody NEEDS to open up on the police when they do crap like they've been doing there in St. Louis. LEOs should not be able to summarily execute unarmed suspects WITH IMPUNITY! Nobody - even a LEO - has any more right to come home at the end of their shift than anybody else! If LEOs had to face the same level of scrutiny any other citizen has to in a deadly force incident, I suspect we just might see a reduction in incidents where LEOs kill regular people. As Rick wrote, glassing is an act of aggression. I suspect that if an ordinary person glassed somebody and a LEO saw it or it was reported, that the person doing the glassing would be arrested, charged with a felony and tried. LEOs should be tried for doing things just like any other citizen. I also suspect that the poxy bastard knew damned good and well glassing is agression. What about putting on a badge confers a license to summarily execute people? LEOs should not be allowed to utilize deadly force in any situation where any of us would not be. The usual "perp had a gun" or other crap excuses used by cops should be affirmative defenses just as similar excuses for regular joes and janes would be. Make the cop's defense attorney have to prove by a preponderance that whatever bullshit excuse the cop put into their report was so.

The law should be explicit that no LEO is allowed to use deadly force in any situation where a regular person could not do so. In point of fact, LEOs should be held to a HIGHER standard of conduct, since they are so all fired "highly trained" and all. Conditions which could be used as a defense by regular people should have to be an affirmative defense by LEOs - at any level up to and including the Federal!

We already have hundreds of dead "civilians" (as the po-po like to call us) maybe it's time for a few dead LEOs.

@Panda, whether the folk in Ferguson were demonstrating about 2A or not; whether they know diddly-squat about civil affairs IS IRRELEVANT! Don't you realize that when jackboots trample ANYone's rights, they trample one's rights? Else what did that German Minister's poem that begins "When they came for" mean. I would also remind(?) you of the lyrics to one of Joan Biez's songs:

No man is an island,
No man stands alone,
Each man's joy is joy to me,
Each man's grief is my own.

We need one another,
So I will defend,
Each man as my brother,
Each man as my friend.

In the days since Michael Brown’s death, we’ve seen video footage of police firing teargas onto people’s private property. We’ve heard reports of police arresting journalists who were not engaging in any illegal activity. If power seems to be corrupting those charged with keeping the peace during the recent unrest in Ferguson, why do some conservatives refuse to consider the mere possibility that a police officer may have been corrupted by power in the event that sparked the unrest?

In Maine if someone is trying to forcibly break into my home I have the right to use deadly force as I am in fear for my life. If I wound the guy, or discourage him, and he runs out of my driveway, I no longer have the right to use deadly force.

Pretty hard to justify a cop shooting a suspect that has his hands in the air and/or is "running away" from him.

The outrageous "show of military force" that followed the original event is beyond words.

Probably Brown did steal the cigars but the cop who shot him did not know that at the time. And besides, is the penalty for "strong arm robbery" now death by cop shooting? Who appointed the cops as "judge, jury and executioner"?

The inner city blacks have a vastly different take on the police as they see it much different than the rest of us do. Racial overtones and corruption are the name of the game. Chris Dorner saw this and was sickened by it. He tried to fix it the best way he could and got nowhere. What will it take to turn this around?

We have seen this "Rambo wannabe" way too many times. Millions have lost respect for the police armies now in use. It is only a matter of time til the people fight back!
