"I get it. You have the right to have guns. But look, let's forget that right. Let's forget the pleasure you get safely on your range, because it's in the wrong hands in other places."
Is this guy retarded? Having fun on a gun range is not why I own guns (though I do use them for that). I own guns so I can defend my life and liberty against wrongful aggression by violent thugs (government-issue or otherwise). This is also the reason why the right to have guns was deemed important enough to include the Bill of Rights.
Self-defense against tyranny or other unjust violence is a natural right. In modern times this right has no teeth without modern weapons, obviously including (but not limited to) firearms.
The interesting thing here is Christopher Nolan and his brother both appear to be very conservative under the radar types. The last batman movie was the most anti communist movie out of hollywood since dr zhivago - and there is even a scene clearly paying homage to it. The bolshevik show trials, class warfare, useful idiots, patriot act equivalent, etc went over the heads of most people and critics though. I don't see it being possible to write the script for The Dark Knight Rises and not have at least a lot of conservative or libertarian leaning views. Nolan's brother created the excellent Person of Interest tv show, too.
I posted this at David's site - just my thinking: You know, I read that quote three more times, and since - when a person is speaking - then unless they make 'air quotes' a reader cannot always fathom the intent or whether sarcasm is implied. But after reading again and again, i t seems to me that he is quoting or paraphrasing the anti-gunners when he says, " let's forget that right because ... it is in the wrong hands in other places" It seems to me that he is saying " I get what the lib types are saying... like, forget your rights because someone else might use a gun for bad things..." Not like he agrees, but comparing the libtard lunacy about the Redskins name with their lunacy about gun rights. Just my opinion. Read it again and see what you think.

Some of us think there's only one real gun law in this country, and all other gun "laws" are in violation of it by their very existence.
