I gotta second Anon at 1:53 PM, if those guys are that passionate about guns, every now and then an 'obsolete' collectors' item gets swapped with an equal weight of scrap metal and goes to a loving new home instead of in the grinder.
Firearms do deadline, and scrapping them is safest. I don't see it as an abomination, just a sad reality of temporal wealth, not everything is worth conserving. But it would be nice if the process by which those that are worth keeping got kept were a little less uncertain and more above board.
