"Arizona border vigilante gets jail for drawing gun on deputy."
Squires said the membership of Malley's group had withered to about three men around the time of his arrest, and their patrolling efforts that night were an attempt to legitimize the group.

I fail to see how this guy should be convicted of a crime for pointing a weapon at an ostensibly armed smuggler, which from the article this guy was dressed up to be. How the hell was he supposed to know the asshat in question was law enforcement until the ID was shown. I don't necessarily see the wisdom of being where he was and doing what he was doing, but a crime was not committed here as far as I can see. This conviction strengthens my certainty that the law does not really matter anymore. This man was held to account for not knowing something that was deliberately hidden by the LE in question when he suited up incognito.

I'm in complete agreement with you on that. To me, it's just one more example of the courts siding with the asshats no matter what they do 'under the color of law'
or when they're 'undercover' and deceiving people. And every alphabet Fed agency and law department that pulls this kind of crap, gets away with it time and time again. No wonder the bastards think they can get away with anything and the illegal acts they commit have spread like a cancer nationwide.
