For whom the bell tolls. (It tolls for thee, Elmer.)

New campus in Waukee borders outdoor gun club
The gun club, a public facility, is a shotgun-only range, prohibiting rifles, pistols or other guns that fire greater distances. The 98-acre grounds offer trap and skeet shooting on the north side and a sporting clays field to the south.
Ward said the shooting range also limits ammunition size to small No. 9 birdshot, which experts say has a maximum travel distance of about 200 yards.
The construction of houses — within 350 yards of trap and skeet shooting lanes — in the Stone Prairie development prompted the club three years ago to build earthen berms that are about 6 feet tall. With some small trees on top, the berms serve as a visual buffer and reduce some sound, Ward said.
The arrival of a middle school, located even closer to New Pioneer’s shooting areas, triggered more in-depth talks between the gun club and its new neighbors.

#9 shot? What's that good for, mosquitoes?

I got a kick out of the comments on the article saying that the gun club should move. This reminds me of a neighbor telling me about a farmer who got into a dispute with a rich neighbor. Farmer got there first and decided to make a HOG LOT near the property line. The farmer hired my neighbor to feed the hogs but to first mix in a 50 pound bag of sulfer with the hog's feed. To say the least, HOG POOP ODOR does not recognize any property line and when the wind blows, so does the stench. I still remember driving past a hog farm that was just North of I-64 in Southern Indiana. It smelled for at least one mile in each direction and I would drive as fast as possible while holding my breath.
Regarding people wanting to shut down the shotgun range, how about all that LEAD SHOT all over the place? Isn't LEAD a biohazard?
It will be interesting to see how this works out.

These people that bitch about the gun club amaze me. They buy a McMansion next to a gun club that has been there for years and then bitch about the noise. Why didn't they do a little research? The real estate agent lied to them when he told them the club was moving.

I guess they don't have a "grandfather" law there?

Or, alternatively, the middle school could start a rifle team and use that club's range.

No, the little detail about the homeowner's association suing the gun club first leaving the gun club no other option got left out.

Perhaps the school and club could get together, start some training courses and clubs, and the students would regard the occasional bangs as the sound of freedom. It has happened other places. I despise the yuppies who move near an active gun club and expect it to close down for their convenience. They are not smart enough to do any research themselves before buying a home.

How convenient. I expect no less from the Register. They are populated with gun haters. I should probably go join.

In other news, Matt Plouffe has filed a motion in opposition to defendants' motion to dismiss.

This reminds me about some ABDUL who buys some rural property (in Texas I think) to build a Mosque. He forgot about the pig farm next door. When he complained about the pigs, the pig farmer decided to have Friday Pig Races. Watching the squealing pigs run around the track was a real treat. Some coincidence that the pig races were at the same time as the Friday Prayers.
