What the heck?
Investigators offer reward after mysterious airborne object causes $3M business fire
Investigators are seeking the public's help solving a baffling fire that destroyed a telecommunications testing business Sunday, causing millions of dollars in damage. . .
Nemko, at 1940 W. Alexander St. (2420 South), burned to the ground several hours after a brightly burning object slowly descended onto its roof around 9:37 p.m. Saturday, fire officials said. The ATF believes the fire caused about $3 million in damage to expensive equipment, down from an estimate of $11 million earlier this week.
The object was on the roof for about five hours before it ignited a fire that was reported around 2:30 a.m., said ATF spokeswoman Lisa Meiman. The object was spherical in shape, but it's difficult to determine from surveillance exactly how big it was, Meiman said.
The object, which couldn't be found in the fire's wreckage, reportedly showed signs of hitting wind resistance on the way down. Meiman said there aren't any positive indications it was a drone. "It was definitely an idea that was tossed around, (but) the wind resistance didn’t make us think and didn’t make us conclude (it was a) drone," she said. "We’re not ruling it out, but we really can’t conclusively say right now. It’s just an odd movement for a drone to be making."

Laugh-in, welcome to 3rd gen warfare, 4th will be along shortly. Never underestimate a free persons brain. With the advent of GPS, modern electronics, and prolific hardware stores, a mind fueled via oppression is a wonderful and very dangerous thing. Guns are but fodder/toys for the true folks to worry about, now what was that old saying. Something about necessity being the mother of invention, like Jack Nicholson said once, you ain't seen nutun yet. Exporting skill sets is great, but a bitch when it comes home to dance.
Let's hope that forensics can prove that the source of the fire and the remains on the roof are those of that gas bag Owl Gore.
Ball lightning.
MkVIII Rocket flare...
Sounds like one of the hot air balloons we used to make as kids. Drape a dry cleaner bag over a kite frame, tape a paper cup with a candle in it in the bottom and off you go.
SOunds like someone was playing with a parachute flare.
I'm guessing a spent model rocket that went off course. Probably the people doing it were up to something funny, otherwise painting the parachute black and failing to recover the rocket body doesn't make perfect sense. But I doubt they intended to set a fire, that was just an unfortunate consequence.
Had a flare fired from an aircraft flare pistol drop short on to and into a neighbor's screen patio one noisy New Years Eve. Lots of running and fire dancing ensued and the only real damage was a 37mm hole melted through the top screen.
