Commandant approves M4 as standard weapon for Marine infantry

It's official — the M4 carbine has replaced the M16A4 as the universal rifle of Marine Corps infantry. Commandant Gen. Robert Neller has signed off on the switch making the M4 the primary weapon for all infantry battalions, security forces and supporting schools no later than the end of September 2016.

M-4 is perfectly fine inside of 300M. Add 20" barrel for full-range and good performance with the most-standard 55 and 62 grain ammo. Does your squad include a DM with the rehabilitated M-14? Reach is good.

The m4 isn't perfectly fine inside of 300m or anywhere else. Reason being is due the design, where the 20in barrel version has the gas port far enough away from the chamber for the pressure to have dropped and the case wall to have contracted as the round passed the gas port, not so with the m4. In the m4 or any short barrel non piston ar, the gas is still holding the fired case to the chamber walls upon extraction attempt, wich has resulted in pulled case heads, broken extraction parts, and broken bolts.

Other than that I guess the corps is now a corps of carbinemen rather than riflemen.
