From tomorrow's Washington Post.

The link is here.

The only dispute I have as far as accuracy is to refer to me as a "hero of the militia movement." Heroes are men and women who throw themselves on a grenade to save their buddies, stand up in the middle of enfilade fire to take out a bunker that is slaughtering their unit, or face off with a street thug unarmed to protect innocents. I have done none of those things, ergo, I am no "hero" to anybody.

I am an old fat scribbler with congestive heart failure, diabetic feet and a cane who runs his mouth more than many folks would like. I have done nothing heroic.

Militia movement will be packing heat at rally on the Potomac

By Ann Gerhart
Washington Post Staff Writer
Monday, April 19, 2010; A03

Daniel Almond, a three-tour veteran of Iraq, is ready to "muster outside D.C." on Monday with several dozen other self-proclaimed patriots, all of them armed. They intend to make history as the first people to take their guns to a demonstration in a national park, and the Virginia rally is deliberately being held just a few miles from the Capitol and the White House.

Almond plans to have his pistol loaded and openly carried, his rifle unloaded and slung to the rear, a bandoleer of magazines containing ammunition draped over his polo-shirted shoulder. The Atlanta area real estate agent organized the rally because he is upset about health-care reform, climate control, bank bailouts, drug laws and what he sees as President Obama's insistence on and the Democratic Congress's capitulation to a "totalitarian socialism" that tramples individual rights.

A member of several heretofore little-known groups, including Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership and Oath Keepers -- former and active military and law enforcement officials who have vowed to resist laws they deem unconstitutional -- Almond, 31, considers packing heat on the doorstep of the federal government within the mainstream of political speech.

Others consider it an alarming escalation of paranoia and anger in the age of Obama.

"What I think is important to note is that many of the speakers have really threatened violence, and it's a real threat to the rule of law," Josh Horwitz, executive director of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, said of the program for the armed rally. "They are calling health care and taxes that have been duly enacted by a democratically elected Congress tyrannical, and they feel they have a right to confront that individually."

On the lineup are several heroes of the militia movement, including Mike Vanderboegh, who advocated throwing bricks through the windows of Democrats who voted for the health-care bill;Tom Fernandez, who has established a nationwide call tree to mobilize an armed resistance to any government order to seize firearms; and former Arizona sheriff Richard Mack, who refused to enforce the Brady law and then won a Supreme Court verdict that weakened its background-check provisions.

Those coming to the "Restore the Constitution" rally give Obama no quarter for signing the law that permits them to bring their guns to Fort Hunt, run by the National Park Service, and to Gravelly Point on the banks of the Potomac River. Nor are they comforted by a broad expansion of gun rights in several states since his election.

The brandishing of weapons is "not just an impotent symbol" but "a reminder of who we are," said Almond. "The founders knew that it is the tendency of government to expand itself and embrace its own power, and they knew the citizenry had to be reminded of that."

Countered Horwitz: "Our founders thought they got rid of political violence with the Constitution. That was its point. The basic idea of America is one person, one vote, equality."

Vanderboegh and Horwitz both said: "We have a fundamental difference in worldview."

April 19 is the anniversary of the bombing of the federal building in Oklahoma City in 1995 and the government's final confrontation in 1993 with the Branch Davidian cult members in Waco, Tex. But Almond said he chose the date to honor the anniversary of the 1775 battles at Lexington and Concord that began the Revolutionary War, "and that is the only reason."

So-called open-carry rallies have been sprouting across the country. Hundreds gathered in Michigan, New Mexico and Ohio last week, and rallies also are taking place Monday in Arizona.

Where demonstrations were once solely about the Second Amendment, speakers now quickly link protecting gun rights to safeguarding all other liberties and decry the new health-care legislation as unconstitutional in its mandate that individuals must buy coverage.

On April 12 in Richmond, more than a hundred people, dozens sporting pistols, cheered when Philip Van Cleve of the Virginia Citizens Defense League called for replacing the "anti-Constitution, anti-freedom, anti-gun" leadership of the state Senate and when Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli II reaffirmed his vow to be "aggressive in protecting the Constitution, as it was written."

There have been no accidental discharges or arrests at the open-carry rallies, according to a review of news accounts. The Fort Hunt rally, however, has caused particular consternation and alarm in the online world where gun-rights advocates plan, recruit and discuss strategy.

Oath Keepers, which in a year has grown to 20,000 online members, signed on early as an event sponsor but abruptly pulled out on April 12. "It had gotten to the point that it would be dangerous to attend," said board member Rex McTyeire, citing an escalation of threatening rhetoric online from some participants. "There are people out there willing to do anything to create chaos in an uncontrolled situation, and [the event] is wide open for disaster."

Organizers of another April 19 rally, the Second Amendment March at the Washington Monument, want it known that they have nothing to do with the Restore the Constitution muster. "We are a peaceful, law-abiding group that will follow all local and federal laws," the march organizers' Web site says. "That group is a separate entity entirely and is not at all associated," but at least two speakers are appearing at both rallies, including Larry Pratt, the executive director of Gun Owners of America, a key force behind the D.C. rally.

"It is our own fault that we are in this situation," Vanderboegh intends to tell those assembled, according to a draft of his remarks. "Each time these revolutionists of gradualism against the Founders' Republic took another bite out of the Constitution and shoved us back from the natural exercise of our God-given and inalienable rights, we have backed up, grumbling. We have not shoved back."

Gravelly Point, where the demonstrators will take turns going to from Fort Hunt, was chosen because it is as close to the District as they could get while carrying guns and also comply with local and Interior Department regulations.

When they stand on the river banks Monday and preach an activism that sounds to some like sedition, the armed demonstrators will have the full support of the federal government they fear, carefully detailed in the 26-page event permit, complete with the gun regulations of both Virginia and the Interior Department and a commitment to provide fencing, barricades and bike racks for the event.

"We handle tens of thousands of demonstrations of a First Amendment nature annually," said Dave Schlosser, spokesmen for the U.S. Park Police, "and we are handling this event no differently than any of the others. We assess what their needs are to allow us to facilitate a safe and successful demonstration so they can exercise their rights to free speech and free assembly without interference."

Once again, just because a political body is established legally does not give it the right to do as it pleases...it does not bestow the power to trample the Constitution. Hitler came to power legally. By this false logic, he committed no crime. This non-logic sickens me. Why won't someone call these people out on this?

And, uh, yeah... We do have the right to confront that individually. You may have surrendered yours. I won't.

That above quote sounds like something that may have been said by a British Tory...

"They have been calling the stamp act and taxes that have been duly enacted by a legally established monarchy and parliament, and they feel they have a right to confront that individually."

Those blasted colonists, those "Hatriots"...

Mike, thanks for taking time to give us an update. I know you's a one armed paperhanger up there. When u r silent too long, some folks start counting things other than sheep to try and get to sleep ...98...99...

hey! Hey! HEY! JPFO got a national BUMP! The Uncle Jack pamphlets were really helpful at the Austin 2A rally, especially “Gun Control Kills Kids” & “Gun Control is Racist.” People see the titles and its like they HAD to take them. Even got em into the hands of a state rep. A (professional, courteous & respectful) State Trooper, they call em Dept Public Safety down here, said he couldn’t take one, but somebody saw to it that “Racist” was left on the pavement right by him. Can’t remember if Deacons for Defense is in there.

Good thing we laminated the Threeper sign, it rained cats, but no one pulled out. Photo documentation delayed due to early onset old timers disease.

Get the JPFO pamphlets! PsyOps for the good guys.

Tried like excrement to get up there, but him say no.

As I told everyone at Austin, I tell all you in DC: Putting your feet on the ground gives us courage. Thank you! & Ooo Rah!
Our prayers are with you all.

“All who rage against you
will surely be ashamed and disgraced; those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish.

Though you search for your enemies, you will not find them. Those who wage war against you will be as nothing at all.

For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear;
I will help you.

Do not be afraid, O worm Jacob, O little Israel,
for I myself will help you,” declares the Lord,
your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.

“See, I will make you into a threshing sledge,
new and sharp, with many teeth. You will thresh the mountains and crush them,
and reduce the hills to chaff.

You will winnow them, the wind will pick them up,
and a gale will blow them away. But you will rejoice in the Lord and glory in the Holy One of Israel.

Even in its headline for what could easily be a straight local news story, the Post and its peons can't resist attempting what they see as a pejorative slant to the language they employ. They probably can't conceive that anything would cut us more deeply than "packing heat."

So this is what passes for objective journalism these days? What a joke. Anne Gerhart should be ashamed of herself. But then, if she were capable of feeling shame, she wouldn't be a mainstream journalist.

Keep it up, Mike. The statists are absolutely terrified of free men and women who won't back down, won't be intimidated, and refuse to surrender liberty for the false promise of security. It's inconceivable to them that there exist in this world people who simply refuse to lick the boot that tramples their face.

And right on, Justin. "Legal" does not mean lawful. Next time someone makes this argument, ask them how they'd react if it were one day made universally legal to sexually molest children. Would they suddenly be okay with pedophilia? I hope not.

Mike,

Hero's are the things you said - the ones willing to "take it" for those whom he loves above even his own life. I think it is safe to say you are demonstrating that quality.

So I will wax poetic if you will allow it:

The Hero.

Once upon a time, long ago
Way back in ‘72
I rode my bike with friends of mine,
Across green acres and sky of blue.

The doors were not locked in the houses of my town,
My little town in the USA,
My parents did not worry, be back for supper!
That was all they had to say.

My eyes grow misty as I recall,
Building forts with bales of hay,
And the memories are whispers to my haggard mind,
As I trudge through the lifeless gray.

With pride still burning in my heart,
I recall the sunshine, the flag snapping in the wind,
The grip on my rifle again grows tight,
My teeth clenched, I march into the din.

For Liberty I stand if even alone,
Her sisters Wisdom, and Honor too,
And if I should die before I wake,
They will carry me back to you.

The rockets red glare, the enemy is here,
Friends fall screaming, bone shatters and blood,
But Love will fight and never die,
I am coming like the flood.

I’ll stand my ground, not backing down,
A Watchman on the Wall of what is true,
And if I should die before I wake,
They will carry me back to you.

Michael,

We hold Patrick Henry in high esteme because he spoke up, saying the things that needed to be said without hesitation or regard for the attention and official notice it would cause him. Same for John Hancock who signed a document boldly and largely knowing full well that his signature on that piece of paper could get him hung if it fell into the wrong hands.

From one tired old diabetic fart to another, we each do what we can, we each do what we must, and the measure of a hero is in doing what has to be done without regard for the personal consequences. Or for that matter giving one flying flip for what labels others paste on your sorry old carcass.

This is not about guns. What don't these idiots get about this? Why does it always have to be about guns to them? These liberal morons spend so much time focusing on guns that they fail to see the big picture, the real picture. Morons, all of them. This country is doomed.

Dan Galena,

From your constant assault, it is clear that you hate Oath Keepers. You've been bitching on various forums for 6 days, straight.

You might not realize it, but your divisiveness in vilifying Oath Keepers is just as useful to the leftists. Less emotion, more big picture.

Dan Galena said...

Dear CorbinKale,

My "assault", as you call it, on Oath Keepers, is nothing less my exercising that which Oath Keepers, purports to defend and support. While Oath Keepers like to take my money, they don't like any comments they consider "disruptive" from those same paying members. BTW Corbin....have you paid dues to them like I have ?

Oath Keepers allows some alleged Board member to use different names when he addresses members at the website. This guy uses two different names and the use of an alternate name by a Board Member making disparaging comments against dues paying members should be grounds for dismissal from OK BoD. It's deception. Yet Rhodes allows it and accepts it.

Oath Keepers silences, bans, and censors members such as myself, at their website, when we dare to express any comment(s) not in keeping with their party line. It doesn't matter if you paid dues.....they censor you without hesitation. So while they censure my comments, they gladly take my money while denying me access to express my comments at the OK website.

However, they they want to claim, as the hypocrites they are, they support the Constitution. Not !

IMO Oath Keepers Board of Directors and their leader S. Rhodes are nothing less than scoundrels hiding behind their alleged dedication to the U.S. Constitution. But when it comes time to stand for what they claim to support, like the event at Fort Hunt they encouraged members to partake in, they turn and run like a scalded dog with their tail between their legs.

God Bless those who put their faith in Oath Keepers. They are Patriots looking for leadership. Sadly, they won't find leadership in Stewart Rhodes and his BoD. They'll only find rhetoric and insincerity, at best.

Perhaps you should turn your dislikes toward the Oath Keeper organization which abandoned the Fort Hunt event at the 11th hour, rather than make effort to denigrate me. And PLEASE don't try to excuse Oath Keepers for their cowardly actions by saying "they knew something we didn't know". If OK "management" had knowledge of some vile circumstance to occur at Fort Hunt against US citizens gathered there, they had the duty to tell their members what it was. Not comments to the effect: "we support YOUR attendance at Fort Hunt, just don't wear anything that associates you with us."

And YOU support THEM ?

"You can fool some of the people...."

Support them if you like. It's your right and freedom to do so. But please don't chastise me because I consider them at best, less than honorable.

Dan,

I support the Oath Keepers mission to educate and encourage active duty military and police about their Oaths. Being banned from contact with said groups sort of defeats that purpose. I, also, support the RTC rally and those who were able to attend. Having served in the Army, we both know that such meetings as the RTC rally are prohibited to the target groups of Oath Keepers.

I am not telling you that you shouldn't speak your mind about your feelings, but it doesn't do our side any good to complain that the S2 isn't walking point with the pig or JAG isn't seizing an airfield. That isn't their mission. OK, as an organization will never muster with arms, though its members may certainly do so in other groups. In my opinion, the commitment shouldn't have been made in the first place. It was a tactical error, embarrassing to correct, but withdrawal was necessary for the survival of the organization in its stated role. No one I know is happy about it.

I don't know what you said that got censored, but what you have stated here is the same thing I have seen you say in MANY posts on the OK forums. What is your point? Is it the $30 that's got you upset? Do you intend to keep this tirade up forever? Do you desire to see OK destroyed? What is your purpose in continuing to snipe at OK?

Thanks for your service and your stand at the RTC rally.

Hi all, I just returned home from the rallies at Gravelly Park and Ft. Hunt. The US Park Police did a top notch job keeping we armed Americans safe from all (2 or 3)of them protesters. Now if they could have done a little better controlling the raving media hounds and their (USPP) circling helicopter it would have been perfect. All in all I had a good day and made some friends . Its just too bad that some people chose not to go. Hell if I had realized that we were making history I would have dressed better and got a shave and haircut, maybe next time. Just remember , we have the power to change what we dont like and we dont even have to fire a shot...but I ll still keep the ammo full.

Well, I'll tell you what ... the next time you read some cop post on OK'ers about how they are constitutionalists and then in the same breath tell you that they follow the LAW because it is the LAW ... and then point out the unconstitutionality of that LAW using reason and logic ... you will find out just how quick they are in vilifying you for the audacity of challenging a cops "patriotism".

I suppose quoting the constitution, the Federalist Papers and etc. just isn't in the preview of OK'ers.

And I'll be perfectly honest with you ... I got kicked out of the California Chapter of Ok'ers, including some other States ... only to have these people practically fall all over themselves to get me back because ... and I quote:

"I think you're right, but America needs her best and able bodies. I'm inviting you to assist us in California. Low tolerance is not what wins the war. I understand your frustration with Oath Keepers. California Oath Keepers is forming a state think tank and I would like to invite you."

Yea, that was me.

And yea, that was me too ... I've seen some of Rex's dealing with Patriots at OK'ers.

Of course, you may be thinking I am talking about people who are just itching to grab their guns and start shooting? No, I am talking about people who did nothing more than hold others accountable to the very constitution they are swearing to uphold and defend.

To be BLUNT, most of the yo-yo's over at OK'ers don't have a clue about the constitution, the founders, their intent, their history, the federalist papers ... and, on a few occasions ... was even called a kook for mentioning some of the above.

There is absolutely NO accountability to the constitution over at OK'ers. Try to bring accountability to any one of the members ... and see just how far you get before you are ganged up by a bunch of know nothings.

Galena... you really need to chill out. OK does not "censor" anyone - unless they become overly abusive (as you often do)or try to force an agenda that conflicts with the mission . OK has a specific mission, which was well documented before you ever signed up and paid your money. If you didn't like the mission/goals, then I would suggest than maybe - just maybe - you should have found somewhere else to rant.
As for pulling out of the VA rally, I guess you haven't read the update with more info on why. If you have, and still don't understand the reasoning behind the decision, then you have my deepest sympathy... I'd really hate to have that much anger locked up in my head totally obliterating all common sense.
In the mean time, if you feel that strongly, then RESIGN in public and I will see that you get you money back - if I have to take it out of my pocket.
BTW - I AM a paid member, and a Three Percenter as well. The goals are not mutually exclusive. I would have made the VA rally, but since I've been umemployed since 3/1, I couldn't swing it financially.
Just one question - did you go?

I believe on another thread somebody accused OK of cowardice? The above quote seems to bear him out.

Also note the implication in the statement about "uncontrolled situation". Not exactly a model I would pick for preservationists of liberty. Your mileage may vary, but then you would be wrong.
