"Milliarium" -- We're about to hit a milestone.

A Roman milliarium (milestone) found in Jordan on the old road leading to Mount Nebo. The inscription, freely translated, informs the passerby that "these works were the works of the architects of Furnius Giulianus in 213 AD at the time of emperor Caracalla who is remembered in the inscription with all his official titles: Emperor Cesar Marcus Aurelius Antonius Pius Felix Augustus Particus Brittannicus Pontifex Maximus, at his fourth consulate, restored the roads and bridges." The only thing it doesn't say is: "Your tax denarii at work."

As of 23:00 hrs this evening

Total Visits to Sipsey Street: 492,260
Average Per Day 2,602
Average Visit Length 2:58
Last Hour 138
Today 2,707
This Week 18,213

So sometime before I see some of you on the 12th, we will hit a half a million visits. Considering that represents far less than a year's worth of blogging, not bad. Not bad at all. Thanks, guys and gals. Thanks.

Thank you for the site to be visited.
And you're welcome. I visit whenever I can, for as long as I can (which sometimes isn't long enough to absorb some of the wonderfully thoughtful material).
And I leave my two drachma's worth, when I think I have something useful or different to add to the discussion.

I've actually been on that road(and Mount Nebo as well) and seen that particular marker and several others that still exist on that road. It makes for a very interesting drive, 'cause the road is all of about one and a half cars wide with no guard rails...
