Grinnell is a small, liberal arts college. It is, as an Iowan would say, "nice". In Iowa, that is a rather tepid compliment designed not to offend when you can't think of something superlative to say. I suspect the news writer had to be somewhat selective in finding enough liberal quotes to make the story come out as it did. Oh, sure, there are liberals in Iowa that don't much like guns -- but many liberals I know are out there on the first day of deer or pheasant season. An indicator of how conservative the area is -- Iowa Sate University, about 45 miles away, at the very height of the Viet Nam war, had one, exactly *one* protest march, which attracted about 100 students out of a student body of 25,000.

I'd never heard of Grinnell College until reading this story. Maybe Brownells will put them on the map.
"Grinnell College, a selective liberal arts institution proud of its commitment to social justice."
"Social justice" and "economic justice" are just code phrases for "Marxism", aren't they?

IOWA always had stood for: Idiots Out Walking Around.
