That pesky Internet again. "Thanks to the Internet, social media and smartphones, the walls between citizens, journalists and the military have never been thinner."

Pentagon Spokesman: Public Affairs Must Change With Times
article quotes:
“Public affairs is an absolutely critical component of our military and our department,” he said. “We operate in a world so tightly connected that every world event, big or small, can be felt in real time.”
"Little said new approaches should include engaging more with nontraditional journalists such as bloggers and tweeters, who sometimes break news but also may report gossip and rumor."
(The money quote...) “When bad things happen, the American people should hear it from us, not as a scoop on the Drudge Report,” he said."

"...bloggers and tweeters who sometimes break news, but sometimes report gossip and rumors." With the change in policy, of allowing propaganda to be disseminated domestically, everything coming from government in general and the military in particular, should be viewed as suspect. This proposal is nothing more than a veiled attempt to control the opposition, which has always been in the government's play book, since the founding. In short, this proposal stinks.

right. ya mean like that "collateral damage" video that showed a sadistic military helicopter crew mercilessly murdering a Rueter's photographer and a dozen or so Iraqi civilians..you know, the one the military relea...er..wait..you DIDN'T release it ..did you? My bad. Ok then, how bout all those "incidents" where the military vaporized hundreds of innocent civilians, including children, with Drone delivered Hellfire missiles? You know..the ones YOU didn't report. Or all those torture incidents at Abu GHraib prison..you know..the one where YOU didn't release all those pictures..right? Right. Oh..and how bout ...never mind..it would take an NSA data base to hold every "incident" the military wants to hide. But just for drill...how bout all those doc's that Bradley Manning released..you know..the information..ahem..WE DIDN'T HEAR FROM YOU?

sheeezusHchrist..
these scumbags never fucking cease to amaze me. However, this one goes down as numero uno in the annuls of GREAT MOMENTS IN MONUMENTAL US MILITARY HUBRIS.

Not to mention REAL coverage of the military kangaroo kourt abomination known as the Bradley Manning..ahem.."trial".

You can't make this stuff up. Armed MP's walking the aisles while looking over the shoulders of the journalists who were in the court room..to see what they were writing. Even Orwell couldn't fathom this bullshit. It redefines the word travesty.

Matt Drudge seems to be a constant thorn in their collective sides which I cannot understand. I've been checking the Drudge Report for years, he isn't a reporter, he just aggregates articles from other sources. As long as he's pissing them off I say keep up the good work.

Don't listen to those bloggers. You must get your information only from the Ministry of Truth.

“Think of the press as a great keyboard on which the government can play.” -- Joseph Goebbels

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.” -- Joseph Goebbels
