Maybe its time they gave us a demonstration of support and waived the govt contracts for 90 days to catch up to the commercial obligations and if mullah obama has a problem with that let him eat crap.. I'm sure the govt has more than enough ammo to deal with anything in the near future..
I'm sorry, but Feintein's bill, Cuomo's SAFE Act in New York, and the latest filings from Washington State, Colorado, and Minnesota are well past the "rumor and conjecture" stage.
All of these manufacturers have a golden opportunity right now to make millions and millions of "customers for life" - simply announce that they will immediately postpone any and all sales to any government agencies and dedicate 100% of their current production to civilian sales only. "At Hornady, our ammunition production is of the people, for the people and by the people." You couldn't buy the loyalty this would generate.
I kind of doubt ATK or Federal or any of the other huge ammo producers are going to take that stance unfortunately. A multi-million dollar government contract is money in the bank (even if it's just inflated FRN's i.e., worthless paper) but it's almost guaranteed income compared to individual sales to citizens.
Too bad though....as you said, it would garner them customers for life.
Many companies remember that in the early 1930's government orders kept them alive when civilian purchases disappeared. The events leading up to late 1939 and the 1940's compounded the situation. Hence we have Remington Rand, Union Switch & Signal and Singer 1911 pistols, Rockola M1 carbines, and General Motors Guide Lamp Division FP-45 Liberator pistols and M3 .45 ACP submachine guns. President Eisenhower warned us about the miltary-industrial complex in a 1961 farewell speech:
