White House gets serious about the Gunwalker scandal. How do we know? They hired a Net-savvy PR flack skilled in scandal-deflection.

Sam Stein of the Huffington Post informs us that White House Hires Communications Hand To Handle Issa Oversight.

The Obama administration is staffing up in preparation for expanded oversight and inquiries from a Republican-run House of Representatives.

Eric Schultz, the former communications director of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, officially joined the White House on Monday. While his portfolio will include issues primarily dealing with the Department of Justice, another key function will be to handle matters relating to and resulting from investigations launched by Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), chairman of the House Oversight Committee.

“Eric Schultz started Monday. He will be one of three associate communications directors, alongside Kate Bedingfield and Sandra Abrevaya," said a top administration official. "Eric’s portfolio of issues will focus mainly on DOJ and other oversight-related topics.” (Emphasis supplied, MBV.)

Issa’s investigatory arm has thus far been a bit more subdued than early reports suggested it might be. But that doesn't mean the California Republican lacks bite. . .

Currently, Issa's office is entangled in an effort to uproot information on firearms being transferred via Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents to straw purchasers in Mexico. On Tuesday, the Oversight Committee announced it would hold hearings on a draft executive order requiring federal contractors to reveal their campaign donations. An Obama administration official will testify at those hearings.

Much of the administration’s pushback to these inquiries or hearings has been done by the agencies themselves rather than by the White House’s own press team.

Schultz steps into a position that the president’s communications shop has been attempting to fill for some time. The original candidate for the role was former press aide Ben LaBolt, but he left the administration to head communications for Rahm Emanuel’s mayoral run in Chicago. Rather than returning to the White House upon Emanuel’s win, he signed on as press secretary for President Barack Obama’s reelection campaign.

Schultz is no stranger to hostile political climates. Prior to taking over at the DSCC, he handled press for Al Franken’s 2008 Senate campaign in Minnesota, including the months-long recount against former Sen. Norm Coleman. Before that, he was national press secretary for John Edwards’ 2008 presidential bid, at one point tasked with handling press inquiries relating to Edwards' extramarital affair.

WhoRunsGov.com had this profile on Schultz.

Schultz climbed Capitol Hill by working in the offices of Sens. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.), and Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.). During the 2008 election cycle, Schultz worked for former Democratic presidential candidate and former Sen. John Edwards (D-N.C.)

When Edwards dropped out of the presidential race, Schultz went to work for Democrat Al Franken's Minnesota Senate run against Norm Coleman. It ended up being one of the hardest-fought races of the year, with recounts lasting well into 2009. In the end, Franken came out on top, and Schultz scored a job at the DSCC, headed by Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.).

Schultz quickly made an impact at the (Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee), including hiring a former Daily Kos blogger to head netroots outreach. (See) Trygstad, Kyle, Time.com, "DSCC hires Daily Kos blogger," May 13, 2009. (Emphasis supplied, MBV.)

P2012 had this bio when Schultz worked for DSCC.

Communications Director Eric Schultz

(Feb. 2009) National press secretary on John Edwards' 2008 campaign. Communications director to Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and earlier press secretary to Schumer. In Fall 2004 Schultz served New Hampshire communications director for the Kerry/Edwards campaign; during the primaries he was deputy communications director on Kerry's NH primary campaign and later press secretary on Kerry's New York primary campaign. Graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, 2002; president of the senior class. Research assistant on Hillary Clinton's 2000 U.S. Senate campaign. Interned for Sen. Schumer in 1999. From Syracuse, NY.

So, let's recap. Schultz's Number One Fan is his fellow New Yaarker Chuck Schumer. He's young, alternate media savvy and experienced in handling scandals. I think one thing we can begin to see happening almost immediately is Internet push-back on Gunwalker from the left-collectivist blogosphere.

But one thing's for sure. By taking this step, the White House is now fully invested in the Gunwalker scandal cover-up.

When "Gunwalker" first came out, it had the odor of someone higher up the D.C. foodchain. Now that this step has been taken the odor hits me like someone just fell in the outhouse pit and wants to deflect the story to avoid tying it to O'bamster. This story cannot die the death that D.C. wants it to do but must be carried on till the whole lot of them are jailed for this High Crime & Felony.(it's long past the misdemeanor stage).

I wonder if Schultz has been called to testify before the Grand Jury investigating John Edwards and the use of campaign monies to support his mistress and his out-of-wedlock child by her. Rumor is that Edwards may face Federal charges. Having heard anything on it within the past month or so but earlier this year the NC papers were buzzing about it.

The second question is whether Schultz helped to perpetuate the cover-up.

Loved reading the huffpo comments!

Ooooh, there are some panties wadded over there. The attacks on Issa and Grassley spoke volumes about the attackers concerns for our nation.

Shultz is a ghost... his profile is incomplete and nothing more than a list of his past associations. His work for Rahm Emanuel couldn't have been all that difficult as Rahm won the election without even breaking a sweat. Chicago loves their overlords!

Minnesota was a cake walk in liberal lala land. Coleman was the underdog fighting for air the whole time. The DNC was swatting him like one of a million mosquito's.

We'll see how he handles this one. A national scandal implicating the DOJ & DHS may take more than being a net-savvy PR flack.

Maybe he'll provide the captions and photos for Holder doing the perp-walk with U.S. Marshalls at his side!

I intended to post the following to the HufPo site but after reading the comments ... It would be "pearls before swine".

As per the HufPo story, Eric Schultz is to be one of three associate communications directors, along with Kate Bedingfield and Sandra Abrevaya, whose job will be word-twisting and cooking the Obama administration’s version of Gunwalker into porridge they will expect the American people to swallow without question.

Joseph Goebbels, Julius Streicher, and Alfred Rosenberg would be proud.

It is telling when one feels it necessary to employ a professional liar in an attempt to convince the people that one’s justification of a total cluster fornicallia is to be believed.

O'Bamster calls in the big guns for damage control. He must be worried that Gunwalker will turn up with his own fingerprints all over it. I can just see it now, sitting Prez indicted for murder of a Federal Border Patrol Agent.

SO the attorney general for the United States of America is SO FUCKING STUPID he can't understand SIMPLE QUESTIONS - constantly.
He is SO inept, unqualified, incompetent, and lacking in any kind of leadership skills - that he has NO idea what those below him are doing; or else he's just a total liar - probably both.

How could he NOT KNOW, why is he SUCH A LIAR? It's DISGUSTING, like so disgusting your lip curls and you want to retch and spit.

A person in his position should be shining and without question a totally ethical truthful honest good and unbiased person. ERIC HOLDER is NONE OF THESE THINGS.

He is such a monkey crap shack racist B.S. artist, he has NO business being in any position of authority WHAT-SO-EVER

HE IS SO BIASED against white people he should go to jail for 'hate' crimes - I mean he totally dismisses rhetorically and literally crimes against whites, while becoming Mount Saint Helens if any perceived bias against blacks occur, even when not real.

NOW the white house "YER SO UNFAYER, everybody else is being FAYER, that's not right, YEWER BIASSED N stuff.
ARE THEY KIDDING? I didn't hear any complaints when the media turned Obama into some kind of untouchable messiah figure, when nobody could even ASK a question without bulging eyed freaks screaming them into the dirt; bias is just FINE if it favors what they want?

Sorry to ramble, and without even really saying anything other than they're all incompetent liars and haters, but, damnit I'm just SO ANGRY - the pettiness & churlish pouting ridiculous behaviour of this entire administration makes my flesh crawl - it's so obvious, there's no tact at all, it's just foot stomping tantrums all the way; what a terrible example for the youth of America.
