From the "Comments" section: If he makes the appointment during a recess of the next congress (112th), when congress returns, a confirmation hearing will be called and the likelihood of him being confirmed is slim to none.--Chris GRE

From the Congressional Research Service--Recess Appointments: Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a recess appointment last?
"A recess appointment expires at the end of the Senate's next session or when an individual (either the recess appointee or some one else) is nominated, confirmed and permanently appointed to the position, which ever occurs first. In practice, this means that a recess appointment COULD LAST FOR ALMOST TWO YEARS [emphasis added]."
