"9 Field-Tested Trunk Guns."

From American Rifleman: A Trunk Gun is a sturdy, reliable, and not-too-expensive firearm that can be kept tucked away in a car or boat for plinking, hunting and, in a pinch, self-defense.

I am going to have to beg to differ on the Hipoint and 22 guns. My life is worth it enough to have something that I will not have to second guess if it will go bang or if it can take down a 200 pound guy without having to "find the sweet spot" in a hell of a hurry.

I am suprised the Garand or M1 carbine did not make the list. Yes, the 30. carbine is a crappy round but I would rather have that than a 22 anyday.

I know folks will take issue with some of the firearms on this list. The Savage Rascal, while good, was just too small for me to handle, and I am not a tall or large man. It was perfect for my young niece and she loves it. One thing you need to remember is the first rule of a gunfight is to have a gun. And, I mean either on your person or within arm's reach. I do carry a trunk gun, but I also pack a .38 snub on my person even around the house. In my LEO experience, you just never know when and it all happens really fast.

To me none of those will work for the intended stated, then again that could be another reason I told the NRA to take a hike in the 80's when they helped Ronnie Ray-Gun throw me under the bus to appease that stupid blond.

Pick-ups don't have a trunk, so my truck gun is a well used Sears model 53 (Winch 70) in .30-'06 picked up for a song @ an auction. S/u w/a rear peep, I feel well armed for whatever, except maybe bunny rabbits.

Pretty lame article. #1 reason would be for self defense.

And, for reasons of availability, relative low cost, cheap ammo, & reliability I'd go with the SKS, if anything in lieu of a riot gun.

Fixed mag, 30 caliber goodness, the steel core ammo will easily punch through 1/4" thk mild steel, accurate enough for most purposes, and out of ammo - deploy the bayonet, and it can be used as a club

The lack SKS, or for that matter, any single barrel break action12ga shotgun- Clearly shows the author has not looked inside too many trunks!
