I have freinds in Canada. One is a judge and politician who was dead set against the gun registry. The way it was sold to the parliment was that it would "save lives and only cost $3 million a year." So much for government estimates. Their government is as piss poor at estimating costs as ours is. The National Gun Regitration system ended up costing $3 billion a year and crime rose. Even when they heavily restricted hand gun owner ship the crime rates rose. No surprise there. Harper finally ended the long gun registry last year. A victory of sorts for them. Now efforts are underway to repeal the rest of the bill and give Canadians back their God given rights to keep and bear arms.
