Dead Elephant party maneuvering for a sellout on private sales.

Senate gearing up for battle over gun legislation.
The bill coming out of Leahy’s committee is expected to include universal background checks but not a more contentious ban on the sale of assault weapons pushed by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and Schumer, a co-sponsor.
Schumer has also been seeking bipartisan backing for his own universal background checks proposal, including talks with Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Mark Kirk (R-Ill.). Another conservative Republican, Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, has signaled that he’d be open to such a proposal but has not endorsed a bill yet.
The Feinstein bill was a red herring all along. It's forcing us to get the government's approval for private sales (and the registration lists that flow from that) that they're really after,

I suspected this for a while.

With Obamas EO foring call guns encountered by police to be traced, every gun dealer in the country is going to end up under an obscure and secretive ATF rule. One that requires any dealer who gets more than ten traces in a calendar year to TURN OVER RECORDS OF ALL GUNS BOUGHT FROM PRIVATE INDIVIDUALS AND WHERE THOSE GUNS WERE SOLD, WITH THE OWNERS' NAMES AND ADDRESSES.

If ALL private sales can be forced to go through FFLs, then ALL PRIVATE SALES RECORDS go to the ATF's database.

We have to fight this and make public what is really going on. When I worked for a gun dealer, neither the owner nor I had ever heard of such an ATF rule until one year when we got 12 guns traced back to us.

This is registration, plain and simple, and in direct defiance of the Firearm Owner's Protection Act. If we don't fight this with publicity now, we're going to have to fight it with bullets later!

Ya know, if you think about it, this is really an unenforceable law. Most parts of the U>S> have no firearm registration of any kind. Refuse to register and carry on selling what you have to people you trust. Pretty simple.

Keep asking the question ... "How does this bill stop the next Sandy Hook ?"

Universal background checks wouldn't have affected Sandy Hook one iota.

SB 150 (Diane's dream) has been and is a red herring.. It is meant to be extreme to stir the pot and get people "all riled" up with multiple goals.. The grabbers hope that someone will do something stupid (justifying, in their minds greater control) and providing a platform to "allow" compromise. That phrase "reasonable" comes to mind as in... be reasonable, we'll cut this out of the bill if only you'd be reasonable and agree that full background checks are reasonable"..

Political theatre with very high stakes...
