Farago beats the "ATF corruption" dead horse again.

"Was The ATF Funneling Guns to the Sinaloa Cartel?"

Go and read his latest theory about the Gunwalker scandal. My comment left at his site:

"Was The ATF Funneling Guns to the Sinaloa Cartel?"

Specifically? No. As a matter of fact, the "tin hat" is your own and inconsistent with evidence in documents and statements of agents elicited so far. As more and more folks come forward under oath, Robert, and we see more and more documents, we will find that ATF was simply doing what they were ordered to do from above.

"The tin hat theory: the ATF let the guns walk so they could inflate the numbers of guns confiscated by the Mexicans coming from America so the Agency could hit up Uncle Sugar for more money to fight gun smuggling to Mexico."

Yes, well, regarding "tin hats." The agents are on record as having been told by their superiors early on that what they were doing was to "boost the numbers" for that very purpose, and looking at it from an ATF perspective that is exactly what the White House intended, but it hardly covered the entire purpose of the exercise. It was not enough to merely pimp up the paper statistics, for those were already under fire as exaggerated. What they needed was stacks of Mexican bodies lying next to weapons which came, not from Central American wars of the 80s, or from crooked Mexican army officers, but from American gun shows and gun stores.

The ATF was a tool of the much larger conspiracy by the Obama administration to subvert the Second Amendment by creating a crisis justification for more restrictive laws AND more power and money for the ATF to enforce them. If that is "tin hat" then I'll be wearing one to the hearings.

But it wasn't the ATF's bright idea. To argue otherwise is to exculpate the higher ups who planned this.

Was that what you had in mind?

Damn glad you printed your response here because Farago didn't let it go up at his site.

Keep it up, Dutchman.

He did not publish your remarks, Mike (but my snark is still there).

He must not like your comment. As of this writing, he has not posted it yet.

This is probably the steepest hill we have to climb in this whole thing.

The party line will be that ATF had good intentions and well, shucks, just screwed up.

It will be up to us to drive home just how malevolent the intent was. That task is likely to be harder than bringing the scandal to light in the first place.

It's 1347 hours, Eastern, and your comment is nowhere to be found.

When comments are suppressed by an anti-gun site, we refer to it as Reasoned Discourse. What do we call it when done by a (supposed) ally?

Well said Mike.

My Comment. Don't know how long it'll last.

I believe that you will discover that your “Tin Hat” theory is going to turn out to be somewhat more than just a theory. The ATF may have been only looking for more money, but the folks in the DoJ were looking to gut the Second Amendment by giving credence to the lie that our right to keep and bear arms is an evil force that has been enabling the massacre of thousand of poor Mexicans.

Mike Vanderboegh knows what he’s talking about.

Come on, guys. We're all in this together. Let's not scrap among ourselves. At this point, none of us 'knows' for certain what exactly happened, nor who was responsible, nor what their exact motivation was. None of us has an exclusive on the facts. Let's try to keep our unity, continue to shed light on the issue and push it to the finish line.

Robert has valuable insight to offer. Mike, you and David have performed a great service to the country. You've turned the rock over, and the insects are scrambling for their lives!

After watching ATF's progression of lies, (Hoover, Newell, etc.), the 'padding the Mexican statistics" theory may be a strong contender. After all, Obama and Hillary both repeated ATF's false 90% figures. When you make the Boss look bad, you gotta redeem yourself somehow.

I just left a comment on TTAG.

"If MVB’s comment wasn’t in your system, how were you able to post it?

Reminds me of when my children were young and candy went missing. Strange that none of them took it but they had sticky brown fingers and cocoa breath."

I'm sure all of us who are parents have had similar experiences.

late reply - and as Cowboy Dan asks, if the email was not 'in their system', then how did the guy get it to publish it?

You still fear to put Mr. Vanderboegh’s reply – that speaks volumes about your integrity, id est, that you can be bought by the favor of the PTB. How pitiful.
You would have loved the old Soviet Union; Pravda was always looking for a few writers.

Dude, I didn’t remove Mike V’s comment. As far as I can tell it was never in our system. Here it is:

It burns me up that I (who has only ever had one speeding ticket, ever) could conceivably take a gunsmithing course, shorten the barrel on an old lever rifle with a damaged crown (to make a handy carbine), mess up my measurements by a 16th or so of an inch, and then become a Federal criminal...meanwhile, terrorists, murderers, rapists, thieves and drug dealers cut deals with the Feds and often darn near get away with heinous crimes...sickening.
