There've been a lot of upset folks lately about new proposed restrictions on imported shotguns. Here is a typical example, entitled "The ATF Wants Your Shotgun."
Now I have a slightly different take on this, so I filed my own comment to the Gunwalker agency and I provide it for your edification and amusement below.

Dear Gunwalkers,
Personally, I think your attempt to expand the concept of "sporting purposes" (a concept that Senator Thomas Dodd borrowed from the Nazi gun control laws for the GCA1968) to imported shotguns is a GREAT IDEA. Heck, why stop there with your grasping, anti-2nd Amendment moves? Go for the gold and make it for domestic shotguns as well. See, the deal is, there are all these folks out there who over the years have been willing to compromise other firearm owners' rights away because we owned an "evil black rifle." We hard-core Second Amendment activists referred to them disdainfully as "Elmer Fudds." As long as you didn't mess with their deer rifles and shotguns, they were cool with any restrictions you wanted to lay down for us. An Elmer Fudd, in case your cultural education is deficient, looks like this:
Of course, we told them that sooner or later the same folks who sought to rob us of our property and liberty were going to be coming for theirs, but most of them ignored us.
Now, you want to do our recruiting for us and go after their beloved shotguns. That is the best recruiting campaign I can think of. You are going to take millions of nice, inoffensive Elmers and turn them into this:
Elmer Zombies! And the "bwaiiiins" they want are going to be yours, Gunwalkers, and the politicians who enable you.
So I think it is a great idea, your going after Elmer's shotgun. The timing is great, too. That plus the Gunwalker Scandal ought to completely destroy your agency. Thus, I believe it is an outstanding idea in every respect. Let me know how I can help you self destruct your agency with any other hare-brained ideas you may get.

Heh! :)
Nice.
I bought a Saiga 12 when this started being whispered about, along with several standard capacity magazines. Bought the store's last one. Now they're on "extended backorder".
The f*cks are basing this all on a false premise. "Sporting purposes" is an artificial construct, not based at all upon the Second Amendment.
On another note, in the Serb/Bosnian conflict, civilians would come to the front at Sarajevo to snipe at their ethnic enemies, just for "sport".
Sporting purposes.
Heh.

Mike,
That was brilliant.
Those Fudd's shotguns are nearly all bigger than Fifty calibre, so, by the same logic that would deny citizens the semi auto only version of the current service issue mouse gun, why should they have "Dangerous Devices"?
The Second Amendment might not say anything about mouse guns, but it certainly doesn't mention "sporting purposes"...
Someday, someday, hopefully, someday soon, the majority of US gun owners will look to Britain and say "Shit, that can happen here -if we don't start acting up now!",
rather than assuming that a life membership of the NRA will take care of them.
The British NRA was in the vanguard of selling owners of centre fire semi auto rifles out, and ten years later it was selling pistol shooters out the same way. Bastards!
Your NRA doesn't look like it's any more reliable.
When did the NRA ever propose, support or encourage legislation to roll back the unconstitutional restrictions on the Second Amendment (that shall not be infringed)? When did the congressmen or senators rated "A" by the NRA ever do so?
You can't win with defense only, so where is the offense? Not to be found on the field!
Why do the tyrants not fear us? Because we have no offense. No legislation discussed, proposed or supported to restore the infringements of our rights. Why do you have to have permission (and pay a tax) to by a suppressor? Or a full auto rifle or cannon or missile, which is the clear intent of the Second Amendment. Only compromise upon compromise of a controlled argument about "sporting purposes."
The only "sporting purpose" of the Second Amendment is to give the citizens a "sporting chance" against tyranny!
The political process has failed us, and could do nothing else in a welfare, steal-from-your-neighbor-under-color-of-law government.
Any of you hit by the AMT this year? Just wait, they won't just be coming for your guns, but your house, your boat, your car, and your kids. Millions have had to take out loans to pay their taxes this year. Just wait until next year when the "Gov" can't borrow or print fast enough, and see what else they come for.
Wise up, prepare and act. We out number them. They fear us or they wouldn't be talking about further restrictions on guns. Time to fight back, with "overwhelming force."

Ah! The old 'Brer' Rabbit' gambit. Well done
Good counter, Mike!

Periodically something reminds me of the Jim Zumbo self destruction.
This is one of those times.
For those of you who don't know, Zumbo is a guy who'd been writing about guns for years, but somehow had missed the constant ads for AR-15's, FAL's, AK's, and other black rifles and shotguns which had appeared in the same venues his articles did and in a field in which he claimed expertise.
Turned out Zumbo was a massive fraud that pulled himself out of the anti-gun closet and by doing so found himself out of a job.
But I digress.
I wonder just what it will take to knock the Fudds off the fence, this may be it, but since the proposal is only for "some" shotguns, I wouldn't count on it.
Did anyone ever notice that Chuck Heston never appeared holding a self defense rifle, ever? Over and Under shotguns, flintlocks, cap & ball, yes, but nary an AR-15. At least none that I ever saw. Was it Chuck or was in Wayne?
Article rocks!!
Love the "Please don't throw me in the briars!"
Poor dumb Zumbo, he was only a poor Fudd, following in the hallowed footsteps of that late and much lauded Quisling, P.O. Ackley.
If you have access to Ackley's handbook vol 2, check out his rants about semi autos in his (assassination)piece on the .223 Rem.
It's on pages 120 and 121 in my copy.
If you haven't got a copy, you're not missing much.
Fudds will not be pushed off the fence until they actually have someone grab their's.
They won't touch Elmer Fudd's 2000 dollar upland special, not while they play divide and conquer with the gun owners. Now if they were to totally change their game to mass civil confiscation/registry at home as per John Galt's 'day the dollar died' then that'd be another matter.
Oh, important non-sequeteur: Sgt. Dyer's trial begins Monday. He's put up a important video log of his defense at www.youtube.com/user/july4patriot and I've embedded his videos here: http://freedomguide.blogspot.com/2011/04/july4patriot-video-log-2.html
The people who can afford one or more $2k+ bird guns donate heavily to the appropriate political folks. They will get to keep their stuff and will happily ignore whatever is done to the rest of us.
Also, I believe some people are still allowed to have single shot bird guns in the Britsh gun control paradise. So don't look for their equivalent over here to necessarily back us up either.

Don't expect any help from the Fudd's or the Zumbo's.
No way, did you seriously send that to those schmucks? Too cool! I love you, man!
Too bad some of those Fudd's have told me personally that they are just going to bury their guns when they outlaw them and not give them one once of fight, and then claim "they sold them" when they come a knocking. I've never heard such a ridiculous thing in my life. Some of these Fudd's are idiots.
