So of course my basement floods on Christmas.

Whenever we have a huge rain (like now) the cracks in the foundation blocks plus the gutters I haven't been physically able to clean conspire to dump water in a flowing sheet over the basement floor, soaking the carpet. Zoe and I are working to mop it up but now we're out of towels and working with blankets. Unfortunately the rain doesn't look like it's going to stop anytime soon. Gonna be a long night.

Two words: shop vac.
Another two: Merry Christmas, anyway!

Shop vac. Just remember to remove the filter, first.

I feel for you Mike, although I don't have a basement here in So.FL., this year we have had an ungodly(unprecedented)amount of rain. About 1 1/2 weeks ago, we got rained on for 3days straight nonstop. Let me tell you man, it gets old. We both know that the criminals at the helm with this geoengineering/HAARP have made the global weather pattern chaotic. California has been in record drought while we are being flooded down here. Since Sept.-Oct. of 2014, they really cranked up the spraying overhead on an almost daily basis. Nothing seems normal anymore and I try to talk to as many as I can about this criminal activity that is wreaking havoc on our planet. I have learned quite a bit from the info that Dane Wiggington and his website provide. I wish you luck with your situation...it SUCKS for sure!

I had a similar problem here in upstate NY. Those shop-vacs mentioned are great but something has to be done about how it gets in. There are products made for sealing swimming pools that , when applied to the cinder block cracks, works wonders for stopping the water from getting in in the first place. Now I get only smaller amounts of overflow from the gutters and use one of those carpet cleaning machines to suck up any water that comes in on the carpet

I would be happy to help but Im one of them Ohio folk.

Hydraulic cement found at home improvement centers to fill the cracks effectively and then paint the blocks with its mated sealer. Of course gutter cleaning is in order too but downspout outlets far enough from the house matters too.

Maybe some readers who live closer than a 1000 miles away could arrange a work day at Mike's house beating back the outside jungle and performing the labor intensive chores like gutter cleaning etc!

The best drying fan you could use at this point is a squirrel cage from an old furnace.

I certainly ind myself a bit envious of folks who have the extra room that basements provide but I will say this much...it is times like this that make me happy I live on a slab. I never have water in the basement problems like this cux I don't have a basement.

I looked hard but missed it a again. Why is it when Bama has a problem be it weather or otherwise, they never seem to sport sharpies an cardboard? Would that be to (1) Being to poor to own such? (2)To proud to ask for help? Or (3) do the locals always step up w/o being ask? My county here in Bama it's the third, shame the nation can't grasp such! When trees are down the locals here just grab a chainsaw an go to work w/o being ask. We seem to clear our own culverts, roads, and help neighbors. Alabama is a backward state for sure.

Would a couple of you Alabama local 3%ers please get over and give Mike a hand and clean the gutters? Thanks

I will clean your gutters. I'm in East TN. The drive would be a nice getaway for the day. I sent an email to the contact account. I pray we find trust in Him.

Yea geo-engineering and chem trails are a conspiracy theory. Global Warming/Climate Change = U.N. Carbon Tax. I am selling a hen with teeth any buyers ? Got the same problem raining /flooding in basement. Have a brook behind the house. Rain/High tides makes it over flow .Ends up in basement. My housing development was built in the 1950's. The brainless town engineers ran the storm drain lines from the street into the brook. Street floods/basement floods. Got 50 gallon shop vacuum. We are from the government ,we came to help. Behind enemy lines ,Ct.
