"An ATF Official on How Trafficked Guns Are Like Cockroaches."

Imagine the United States is an apartment building with a cockroach problem. Some residents, unsettled by the creatures, hire exterminators to end the infestation in their units. Others, however, are ideologically opposed to pesticides, and refuse to take action. In the near-term, a portion of the roaches die off, but in the untreated parts of the building, the colonies multiply. One morning, the guy who paid the exterminator $200 wakes up with a roach on his forehead, and sees several more crawling along the baseboards of his bedroom.

They should know, with their gun trafficking schemes.

This, of course, completely ignores the fact that guns (legal or not) aren't self-replicating in any meaningful sense. They are manufactured and transported by those who identify markets willing to pay for them, and unless you ban the means of producing and moving guns, it is meaningless to outlaw the guns themselves, other than ensuring that such guns as are introduced fall into the hands of those most interested in using them for illegal purposes (of course the more colloquial chiasmus states this perfectly well, but sometimes it's helpful to restate a well-worn phrase).

Australia has been discovering this the hard way. And they don't have the deep cultural divisions which U.S. politicians have worked diligently to exacerbate for personal and political advantage over the last few decades.

I always thought of ATF officials as more like cockroaches...

Sane people use a different word.

Commerce.

This site is fully funded by hizzonner Bloomturd. Jennifer Mascia is the dumb bitch whose daddy was a mob hit man. This is how she makes his amends.

By the way, we got a dude here in AZ who is shooting at whitey when whitey is driving on the freeway. Texas cops being executed, Virginia reporters murdered.

It's on, as it appears to this viewer. I think Bloomer is a little late, c'est la vie!

Fuck em and feed em fish heads!

Yes, I totally agree with the ATF's point about uneven gun laws being a problem. There should only be one gun law across the U.S., I believe most people are already familiar with it:

"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state,
the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed"

The ATF guy left out an important part of his comparison. Roaches tend to stay near their sources of food and water or migrate towards them. Trafficked "crime guns" seem to stay around or migrate towards crime and criminals. That's why they don't stay in Texas or Florida. Instead they migrate long distances to places like Illinois, New York, or New Jersey.

Also like roaches, if you don't want them in your area and take the time to clean up what is attracting them in the first place you will eventually find fewer and fewer of them.

Kind of like the old cliche: "Guns cause crime like rats cause garbage."

There's no such thing as an "illegal gun", just illegal agencies attempting to legitimatize their existence and pay checks. The same goes with state and federal legislators that pass "free good" laws that are completely unconstitutional.

It appears that the welfare state is churning out too many cockroaches.

There's no way I can see to leave feedback on The Trace's articles. Typical. I find the cockroach metaphor accurate, though not the way that author thinks about it. The people exterminating the cockroaches are the gun owners. When too many people refuse to do their part, the gun owners have to exterminate more perps.
