Well, that was easy. Governor Caspar Milquetoast decides he doesn't want to fight on that hill. "Bentley abolishes ‘gun free zones’ at rest areas, orders signs removed."

Governor Robert Bentley announced Friday afternoon that he ordered all “no weapons allowed” signs removed from Alabama’s rest areas after readers of Yellowhammer News contacted the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) this week asking the agency to justify their policy.

Here is the thing - NONE of the controllers actually want to fight on any hill whatsoever. The more folks band together and defy the fools unconstitutional laws, diktats and commands then the more stand down orders will be given.
Time for groups like the NRA to explain why their tracks have failed so badly when open disregard for unconstitutional impositions has been so successful.....

Since there would have been no metal detectors or pat-down searches, I always carried concealed in the AL rest areas anyway. By the way, where can I print the "Death Zone" signs to stick by the "no guns allowed" signs on businesses? At least, Bentley did one right thing!

Florida has the right idea in putting teeth in "790.33 Field of regulation of firearms and ammunition preempted":

Then again, you would think the U.S. Constitution would be sufficient to prevent all this nonsense:

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

That includes Alabama rest areas.
