The Krewe of Barkus is a New Orleans Mardi Gras parade whose participants are dogs costumed according to a central parade theme and escorted by their human owners. Originally created in November 1992, the krewe was not granted parading status by the city of New Orleans until 1994. The Krewe is reigned over by a King and Queen and registration fees for members are donated to local chapters of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Themes over the years have included: Jurassic Bark, 2001: A Dog Odyssey, the Wizard of Paws, Tails From the Crypt and Raiders of the Lost Bark.
Barkus traces its history to a November 1992 meeting of the Margaret Orr fan club. Orr is a meteorologist for New Orleans television station WDSU. A member of the club hatched the idea for a canine-centered "krewe" and it took hold. Orr regularly participates in the event as a Mistress of Ceremonies.
Membership in the Krewe of Barkus has grown over the years and now numbers over 400. -- Wikipedia.
It is interesting that Barkus, the self described MSM journalist who began posting in these pages in defense of Tina Brown, continues to engage here. One would think that Barkus has better things to do than deign to come down to Sipsey Street and risk contact with the great unwashed, arguing with us "conspiracy theorists" as the visiting representative of the "Main Stream Media Anti-Defamation League."
To be sure, Barkus' blandishments are couched in reasonable language and lack the usual dismissive sarcasm that we have come to expect from the usually resentful and bewildered representatives of a dying race -- that of "main stream" journalists. It is obviously important to Barkus to persuade us of Tina Brown's good intentions, despite what my sources have indicated is the true nature of events in the Newsweak editorial spaces.
And so you have to ask yourself, "Why?"
Why is it important for anyone of the Mandarin Literati class to waste time on a mere "extremist blog" written by a "blood soaked" novelist?
File this under "Things that make you say, 'Hmmmm.'"

Please! Keep Mr Barkus engaged on this site. As a "useful idiot", he will be able to give the rest of us some insights into the thinking (!!) behind the scenes in that body known as the MSM. After all, "know thy enemy".
And he may also be good for an occasional laugh (though unintended on his part).

It is refreshing in a way.
Certainly lends a certain kind of legitimacy to Sipsey Street Irregulars. You are a debutant now Mr. Mike! A coming out into the realm of the make believe. (except there is no making up the things you write of Mike, one could not fabricate nor construct from whole cloth the vast extent of treason and tyranny you have exposed).
Acknowledgement of your slings and arrows.
Maybe, just maybe, God willing, Barkus is struggling with his demons. Maybe he has inner doubts. Maybe the Truth has had that wonderful sanitizing effect on his American soul.
Maybe this is his gestalt?
Just maybe, not every traitor to The Constitution and statist apparatchik of the mandarin Nomenklaturer class is so morally lost that they read about the truth and realize they have been terribly wrong?
Maybe his world is so upside down inside out he wants to see just how far the rabbit hole goes.
Like searching for an answer, but not knowing the question?
At some point here in the not too distant future, we are all, every damn one of us, the Barkus's all included, are gonna have some very cold truths about tyranny shoved right up our backsides.
I'm not defending Tina Brown, folks. What I'm saying is that the scenario described by the proprietor of this blog is highly unlikely. Do you really think that the FBI "got" to Tina Brown? Do you really think that Tina Brown "checks" with Hillary before she publishes a story? She doesn't. She's too busy. Hillary's too busy. This is how it goes: Newsweek has a story about the life of a confidential informant, written with the cooperation of said informant and the said informant's lawyer. The said informant's lawyer -- who is probably the proprietor of this blog's source in this matter -- has interests in bringing this informant to light, and has hopes that the story will serve those interests. Maybe he's even led to believe that the story will serve those interests. It doesn't. He's disappointed. The proprietor of this blog is disappointed. Out of that disappointment comes the idea that everybody involved in the story, on the media side, is on the other side, is some kind of enemy. But they're not. We're not. I'm not. You want to know why I'm taking the time to write here? That's why. I want some fallacies and misconceptions corrected. You have strong arguments that have sent me back to my Thomas Paine. But they should not be rooted in fallacies and a lack of understanding in how the people who work in the MSM actually do their work.
Don't take the bait.
Bears repeating:
1. Who is this guy?
2. Why is he telling me this?
3. Why is he telling me this now?
Hey, Dutchman6! As one proud parent to another, did your daughter ever come to you all contrite and confess some minor transgression to divert your attention away from a major whoops she didn't particularly want you looking at too closely? Mine did. Kinda like this guy just popping up from nowhere to explain to us simple folk how the MSM really works. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain and all that.
So, what could it be that Newsweek doesn't want you looking at?
Yo, Barkus,
Let us know which of Lt. Kerrys awards and citations are real.
Let us know what you think of William Ayers life and times.
We will let you know truth.
You will get the better of the trade.
Truthfully yours
Barkus is here as a distraction and provocation. When this is done by the left, it means that they are trying to interrupt your processes and misdirect your energies and attention. The fact that they exist at all indicates a dire threat to the people of this country. It also confirms any doubts you may have regarding their actual intentions. The Internet threw them a curve ball but they've responded with the only option available to them at this time. If they could shut you down, they would. When they can, they will. Meanwhile they will harass and provoke and distract because it inhibits the processing of information and aids in misdirection.
The "MSM" designation needs an adjustment. The "S" now stands for "SEWER," so as to read Main SEWER Media. It has gone from stream to sewer, and it should be recognized as such. No offense to Mr. Barkus, but truth is truth.
"Do you really think that the FBI "got" to Tina Brown? Do you really think that Tina Brown "checks" with Hillary before she publishes a story? She doesn't. She's too busy."
This may well be true. It's not always necessary to stoop to an actual "conspiracy". But I think it is instructive to consider what John Taylor Gatto said about the non-conspiracy of government "education":
(see http://johntaylorgatto.com/underground/prologue8.htm)

With conspiracy so close to the surface of the American imagination and American reality, I can only approach with trepidation the task of discouraging you in advance from thinking my book the chronicle of some vast diabolical conspiracy to seize all our children for the personal ends of a small, elite minority.
Don’t get me wrong, American schooling has been replete with chicanery from its very beginnings.*
Indeed, it isn’t difficult to find various conspirators boasting in public about what they pulled off. But if you take that tack you’ll miss the real horror of what I’m trying to describe, that what has happened to our schools was inherent in the original design for a planned economy and a planned society laid down so proudly at the end of the nineteenth century. I think what happened would have happened anyway—without the legions of venal, half-mad men and women who schemed so hard to make it as it is. If I’m correct, we’re in a much worse position than we would be if we were merely victims of an evil genius or two.
If you obsess about conspiracy, what you’ll fail to see is that we are held fast by a form of highly abstract thinking fully concretized in human institutions which has grown beyond the power of the managers of these institutions to control. If there is a way out of the trap we’re in, it won’t be by removing some bad guys and replacing them with good guys.
Huh. Left a comment the other day demystifying the mystery of my being here. It was never posted, due either to a technical glitch or Dutchman6 going all Tina Brown on my ass and ruthlessly suppressing the truth. Either way, Happy Thanksgiving, my fellow Americans. May we all one day find common cause and purpose, while being generally left alone in our pursuits of happiness. Take care.
