The race is on to buy up high capacity magazines, but I wouldn't worry about it just yet.

Although we're still snow and ice bound here in Pinson, Alabama, I've received some anecdotal evidence by phone and email that the race is on to buy up high capacity magazines -- especially pistol mags -- in the wake of the Arizona killings. Yet Politico reports that as far as Congress goes, those fears may be overblown.

Those who have brought up gun control in light of the Tucson shooting have largely been the issue’s regular standard-bearers on Capitol Hill. Even gun-control advocates aren’t very optimistic about their chances. . .

Gun-control advocates hope that, because one of its own has become a victim, Congress will see things differently. But with a new, solidly pro-gun Republican majority in the House and a Senate stocked with red-state Democrats up for reelection, there are few indications of widespread conversion on the issue.

They would also have to fill out the little form explaining where in the Constitution the FedGov has the power to regulate firearms and their accessories. Should be a fun exercise. Maybe they will spend a few days arguing that. At least if they waste time doing that, they aren't doing something else.

I've never trusted those long, long pistol mags. I don't think springs are meant to do that.
But we have the right to them, dammit!
Anyone think they might include rifle 30-rounders again, without the grandfather clause? THAT would be ... inadvisable.
I really hope the Tea-Party-aided Congress remembers to dance with the ones that brung them. David Codrea at The War on Guns has a story about a supposed Tea Party mayor and an eminent domain situation. And of course the Republicans in Congress, inspired by the Tea Party to renounce earmarks, nevertheless included lots of them in their spending bill just in case it passes, so the Democrats aren't the only one who get the pork. And Eric "PATRIOT Act" Cantor is their leader.

A sane liberal (oxymoron I know) would recognize that their arguments for gun control have failed. Going on 43 years since their big win in 1968 and their promises of reduced crime are still epic fail to the extent that their own numbers demonstrate that more control equals higher crime rates. We have reached the point where they have run out of any sort of reasonable argument and are reduced to repackaging theories long since proven false.
The good news is that their lies and willingness to dance in the blood of innocents has become so blatantly obvious that even the uneducated public can see through their obfuscations. So keep on shining the light of truth on the miserable bastiches and ultimately we will beat them back into their rat hole dens. Won't kill them, but we will drive them back until they become the irritating nuisance they deserve to be rather than any effect on our way of life.

The Sten mark II is fitted with a 32 round magazine which functions flawlessly.

The Sten mark II had a wartime fabrication cost of $7.90 and is so simple, copies can be made in your garage.

The Sten mark IIS, was the model (commando ops and exports) which sported a can on the end which I'm told was very effective.

Rather than buy up all of the mags. Are there any plans for making them?

Just thinking....

That is the question.

In a month or two, we'll have our answer.

I'm buying those POF .308 25 round mags I've had my eye on now rather than risk it with republicans who have let us down before. Besides, all the clamoring by the gun control nuts has convinced my wife not to complain about the price, as she's done before. All I had to do was show her the link Mike provided to the Politico article.

Thanks Mike, for all you do for us!

CDNN is sold out of the Glock 33 round mags and raised the price for KCI 33 round mags from $10 to $13.

44mag.com is out of everything 9mm but the KCI G19 mag.

Centerfiresystems.com has only the KCI 9mm mags.

Midway is out of the Glock 33 round mags but has stock of other 9mm mags.

They need to be made to understand that little dot at the end of the 2nd Amendment.

"...SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED(PERIOD)"

I like to show people vids like these:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpQB3Id_3go
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbJ0YS9CfN4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0PJfh7INLNE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJVoc5uJ2e4

Then I ask them to explain to me how they think limiting mag capacity will change anything at all in a situation with a psycho like in Tucson.

Granted, such proficiency takes lots of practice, but it's something that can easily be practiced anywhere -- it doesn't require a trip to the range.

Further, banning full-cap mags does nothing but drive up the price -- those who want them will still get them -- hence once again we're doing nothing but making life more difficult for the law-abiding while having no real effect on crime or criminals.

We'll know a whole heckuvalot by June, I surmise. Within that relatively short time frame, there will be plenty of issue for the Tea Party types to show either bold, or bleached colors.

Rep Pete King of NY plans to introduce a bill to bring back the old 1,000-foot gun-free radius rule for school property AND our Congressional elites and president, and other unconstitutional nastiness.
He knows hes not really a king, right? I don't think he does.

Defender said...

"Boehner spokesman Michael Steel said the Speaker would not support King’s legislation.

The office of Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said the majority leader is reserving judgment until the King bill is finalized.

“Mr. Cantor believes it’s appropriate to adequately review and actually read legislation before forming an opinion about it,” Cantor spokesman Brad Dayspring stated in an e-mail."

Uh huh.

The Constitution doesn't stop any of the existing firearms and firearms accessories legislation, I see no reason why it should stop this.

If we're sitting back and assuming that Congress will even realized that reason exists, let alone listen and act according to reason, we will be sorely disappointed.

I hope you are right, Mike. I just spent money I don't have on a modest number of 30 round AR mags.

Just search the home shop machinist sites for:

Tubal Cain, Spring design and manufacture

R.E. Wakeford, sheet metal work.

I'm a bit wary of posting Amazon search links, they too often have the ISP number lurking in them.

Here's a compromise I can agree with King on: Make it illegal for any politician to come within 1000' of a gun owner. The end result is the same, but our Constitutional rights aren't violated.

The reason for introducing gun control legislation is to see how the newly-seated House representatives vote.

This is a test; it is only a test.

If it had been a real vote, the NRA would have introduced an alternate bill to compromise your Second Amendment rights. ;^)

Sure, let's wait to worry about it until it's to late. We know that there will only be a handful of people, if any, that fight against any proposed legislation to further restrict our rights. I will worry about things when I want to on not when somebody else tells me to.

I say we just get this nonsense over with and repeal the 1st and 2nd Amendments. The 4th is already worthless. Our government is moving towards more tyranny, not less.....

"If there must be trouble, let it be in my day, that my child may have peace."-Thomas Paine, The American Crisis, No. 1, December 19, 1776

As much as I pray we avoid what is coming....I think of Patrick Henry's words and realize, what we wish is not of concern to our self proclaimed masters.

"It is natural to man to indulge in the illusions of hope. We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth, and listen to the song of that siren till she transforms us into beasts. "

"Is this the part of wise men, engaged in a great and arduous struggle for liberty? Are we disposed to be of the numbers of those who, having eyes, see not, and, having ears, hear not, the things which so nearly concern their temporal salvation?"

"For my part, whatever anguish of spirit it may cost, I am willing to know the whole truth, to know the worst, and to provide for it."

Folks, it's really simple. You have people who want to disarm everyone but themselves and tell you what light bulbs you can buy, with whatever money they allow you to keep.

Then you have those who apparently, are secretly owned by others and will vote as they are instructed, at critical times. Call them RINOs or traitors, or whatever you wish, the effect is the same, the Constitution and Bill of Rights have no meaning to them at all. Those documents are impediments to them, to be ignored and overcome.

They believe that they OWN you. They lie continuously and have no accountability but plenty of help and support, from the media and they know it.

Are there Plans for magazine construction on the web? Honest to god.

You have but to look and download. What do you think you might need in the future? It's there and it's free. Until "they" can shut it off for good, and they certainly will do so.

This is no damn game. "They" are serious. Or you could learn to be a good slave if you think that is preferable to freedom.

In the words of Chris Matthews, Rep. King needs to be "erased" from the political process.

"1,000-foot gun-free radius rule for school property AND our Congressional elites and president"

Some places put that kind of rule on the books for child molesters and the like. Doesn't work very well, as there's so much overlap in urban areas that their housing options are really limited. Makes it hard for their PO's to keep them properly supervised.

I live near a school. Does King think I'm going to give up my hardware just because he passes a new law? I hope not.

He'll be in for some rather unpleasant moments when he comes to pick them up.

I really don't see any way such a law will make it out of committee and I REALLY doubt it would pass the whole House of Representatives.

Still, those blood dancers never quit. They're so sick. Maybe THEY should be locked up in mental health facilities.

I have been wondering about this; I even bought another high cap mag for my sig p226. I even condidered the idea that it might be a wise investment to buy a bunch of high cap mags and then sell them for profit after a ban goes into effect. But we should be confident in the NRA. The Members of Congress have ranked the NRA as the most powerful lobbying organization in the country several years in a row. I did a speech on the NRA last semester in college, and I found a book in the library that was called "Outgunned: Going Up Against the NRA." The book was about how if you were to go against the NRA, you will likely lose the battle. The whole book was basically about how the NRA is so powerful. The writers of the book were not pro-gun(I don't think), and I think they are upset about the NRA's power. But I love it! I'm so glad we have the NRA to stand up for us. It's a shame that sometimes somebody goes nuts and committs a mass killing; but its not fair to punish everyone for one man's mistake. Go NRA! Those who are not a member, and you value your 2nd amendment rights; you should join the NRA.
