Praxis: Interesting. A "Long Range" Crossbow?

My thanks to Don W. for forwarding this on the PSE Tactical Assault Crossbows TAC15, TAC10, TAC15i, & TAC10i. Watch the video. Comments?

A little pricey at $1,172.85 -- and that's w/o the scope or lower receiver. For now, I'll stick to my cheap PSE Coyote 45# recurve.

Wow. Always been a crossbow fan, but never made the foray into bow ownership. That may have to change. Thanks for the link.

Long range for a xbow is maybe 50 yds. If you want one, look at the Excalibur, much cheaper, dependable, and easy to maintain yourself without special tools.

More like an assault on your wallet. I hate crossbows. They are destroying the sport of archery. Which is meant to be an activity surrounding the use of PRIMITIVE weapons. Not more tech junk.

Long range? Not hardly. Used to be in SCA and when we made a long range crossbow we could throw a bolt up to a mile accurately with it. And it woudl punch clean through a 55 gallon drum at that range. And since we made it out of scrap (leaf spring off of an old farm truck, crank off of a flag pole, etc.) it was almost free.

Crazy Horse and Gall, on Custer's flanks, loosed arrows from long range, lots of 'em into the horse holders and horses. Each saddle bag had half of the soldier's ammo leaving the soldier's belt ammo, 20 rounds.

Pretty soon, rifles silent.

The bows didn't cost much, except to Custer. Arrows were extra.

Although a good bow can be a powerful silent friend - and I used to love shooting my simple recurve in younger days - I have to agree with St. Charles - for a price like that one can get a serious AK or a very nice sniping setup complete with - umm - well, a legal, hollow muzzle shroud with baffles...

Awesome - that means that it was better than a MaDeuce or a Barrett for accuracy AND penetration! If only Hathcock had owned a home made crossbow instead of a rifle!!

This strikes me as something Jeff Cooper would have suggested for the Waffenposselhaft Award, but I admit to a pique of interest...in the vein of "just because I can't think of what I'd use it for, doesn't mean there isn't a really good use for it".

I doubt I'd refuse the chance to wring it out.

Dumb idea. Either buy a crossbow or buy an AR-15. For this device to work, you have to have or buy an AR-15 / M4 lower receiver with stock. You will have to go through a Class 1 FFL dealer to get the lower. You can buy a decent crossbow for the cost of the AR-15lower. For the price of this monstrosity, you could get a basic AR-15 or M4 AND a crossbow.

I believe that the crossbow has a place in the arsenal. I have never been a big archery fan ... so 1500 bucks is just plain silly.

Silence is the only reason to own a bow or crossbow but at that price I would prefer a suppressor and do the Form 1.

I did see a great western one time that truely showed the 1 big advantage of the bow and arrow:
The cowboys have taken refuge in a washout and have a clear shot at any approaching Indians who are way too far away to shoot at them with direct fire. Then the Indians get up on a hill and start lobbing arrows in like mortars and the cowboys are screwed they have to move and the Indians get them then.

They are not as loud as a rifle, certainly are not "silent".

reminds me of the black arrow.

Not quite good enough to convince me to buy a crossbow that relies on buying a "poodle-shooter" lower(much less at an additional 1200+ FRNs).

I could buy a couple of "Scout Rifles" for that expense and have much more versatility.

Completely awesome idea! Love it!

Wow. $1300 for a crossbow AND I lose my AR??? No thanks. Many, many, many things are on the list before this. If I had 1300 bucks laying around that I didn't need, the first priority would NOT be this.

Crossbows have their uses I guess, but not @ the cost of 1300 bucks plus my AR! Plus, 90 bucks for 6 shots??

It's quite...Rambo-esque.

Any crossbow action in Absolved, Mike?

More than a 'little pricey' in my opinion. Throw in $300 and you've got a standard M1A!

As to the wisdom of adding a crossbow to one's 'repetoire', it's a very specialized weapon to say the least.

I wouldn't turn one down if a benefactor provided it, but I think the time/money spent on it would be better expended getting people properly equipped and trained in field craft, marksmanship, and edged weapons.
