The Intolerable Act: Now here's a bit of irony. People are going to get killed over health care.

Irony (from the Ancient Greek εἰρωνεία eirōneía, meaning hypocrisy, deception, or feigned ignorance) is a situation, literary or rhetorical device, in which there is an incongruity, discordance or unintended connection that goes beyond the most evident meaning. -- Wikipedia.

Folks,

Now here is some irony for you. People are going to get killed over whether the Feds have the right to force "health care" down our throats.

PELOSI: Buy a $15,000 Policy or Go to Jail

JCT Confirms Failure to Comply with Democrats’ Mandate Can Lead to 5 Years in Jail

Friday, November 06, 2009

Today, Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee Dave Camp (R-MI) released a letter from the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) confirming that the failure to comply with the individual mandate to buy health insurance contained in the Pelosi health care bill (H.R. 3962, as amended) could land people in jail. The JCT letter makes clear that Americans who do not maintain “acceptable health insurance coverage” and who choose not to pay the bill’s new individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income), are subject to numerous civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000 and imprisonment of up to five years.

In response to the JCT letter, Camp said: “This is the ultimate example of the Democrats’ command-and-control style of governing – buy what we tell you or go to jail. It is outrageous and it should be stopped immediately.”

Key excerpts from the JCT letter appear below:

“H.R. 3962 provides that an individual (or a husband and wife in the case of a joint return) who does not, at any time during the taxable year, maintain acceptable health insurance coverage for himself or herself and each of his or her qualifying children is subject to an additional tax.” [page 1]

“If the government determines that the taxpayer’s unpaid tax liability results from willful behavior, the following penalties could apply…” [page 2]

- - - - - - - - - -
“Criminal penalties

Prosecution is authorized under the Code for a variety of offenses. Depending on the level of the noncompliance, the following penalties could apply to an individual:

• Section 7203 – misdemeanor willful failure to pay is punishable by a fine of up to $25,000 and/or imprisonment of up to one year.

• Section 7201 – felony willful evasion is punishable by a fine of up to $250,000 and/or imprisonment of up to five years.” [page 3]

When confronted with this same issue during its consideration of a similar individual mandate tax, the Senate Finance Committee worked on a bipartisan basis to include language in its bill that shielded Americans from civil and criminal penalties. The Pelosi bill, however, contains no similar language protecting American citizens from civil and criminal tax penalties that could include a $250,000 fine and five years in jail.

“The Senate Finance Committee had the good sense to eliminate the extreme penalty of incarceration. Speaker Pelosi’s decision to leave in the jail time provision is a threat to every family who cannot afford the $15,000 premium her plan creates. Fortunately, Republicans have an alternative that will lower health insurance costs without raising taxes or cutting Medicare,” said Camp.

According to the Congressional Budget Office the lowest cost family non-group plan under the Speaker’s bill would cost $15,000 in 2016.

On 9/11/01, the people of flight 93 realized what was happening, that their own lives might be forfeit by a crash or by resistance. The terrorists who usurped authority over the plane literally pushed them into a corner to marginalize, minimalize, and isolate them. This only provided them the motivation for them to unite under some community organization and a deliver a powerful response. The terrorists learned too late that Islam doesn't have a monopoly on martyrdom and that 1 guy with a boxcutter can't guard the door.

Replace:
9/11/01 with today
Terrorist with Czarrorist
Crash with ObamaCare
Lone boxcutter with snipers

It's not 1:1, but I can't come up with a better corrolary for what's going on right now.

I believe you are right in saying people will get killed over this health care bill. It might get through the House without sparking a war, but for sure they are playing with fire in a gunpowder factory.

It has been said perhaps no more than 100 heads would be necessary for them to wise up and reverse course. If that doesn't prove true, I think we are in for some serious grave digging.

Roughly 600,000 were killed in our last Civil War, but we now have ten times the population of 1864. Hypothetically, we could see six million deaths in a modern-day Civil War. The last time that many of a single class of people were killed it was called a Holocaust.

I know this might come off a bit sadistic, but my evil side hopes it passes. Maybe THEN America will wake up.

Pass this, and its war.

It has been said by the liberal establishment for many years concerning abortion that we "cannot interfere with the private decisions of a woman and her doctor."

This "health-care" crap being shoved down our throats will interfere with our individual decisions with our .....the hypocrisy is unbelievable.

If this is not tyranny, I do not know what is.

This is not the same America that I grew up with.

I have come to the conclusion that the greatest of evils on earth today are done in the name of good things and good intentions.

Got to agree with most of what "Anonymous" is saying here. Socialized medicine ain't quite gun confiscation, but it's a line crossing in it's own right. And it IS a life-and-death matter. Anyone who wants...."assistance" in not going along with this if it does indeed go down, I am glad to help.
