I'm not defending Dick's by any means, but how many of us are old enough to remember that back in the late 60's early 70's dealers were required to record all ammo purchases in a book? Name, address, type and amount of ammo purchased. It lasted for a few years as I recall.
Sports Authority tried this same shit in my area about 14 years ago. They wanted your driver's license # and also asked - with other customers standing nearby - "Have you ever been convicted of or had a restraining order issued against you for domestic violence?" Needless to say, their gun and ammo sales shriveled up quicker than a pecker in ice water. A Dick's store opened down the road from SA about 10 years ago, and SA was subsequently rendered a ghost store. A Gander Mountain opened 2 years ago and now Dick's only gets business from folks looking to buy camping gear and shoes. SA shuttered 6 months ago. I'm betting Dick's is next.
I have despised Dick's and refused to patronize the retail stores ever since the first time I encountered the chain- Delivering products in a semi truck to their distribution centers.
As badly as they treated us poor drivers who were only trying to do our jobs, quickly & efficiently delivering the products they had ordered to their warehouses- I'm not a bit surprised they would F**k their customers as well.
We have a couple of gun stores around here that require your DL to purchase ammo. Like booze they say it is a proof of age thing. When you are 50+, it can be annoying.
Here in CT it is Dick's policy to record all ammo purchases. Not knowing this, I went there once to buy a box of .22's when they recorded my carry permit id number. CT law (even the new law) does not require recording the id, so I asked what they were doing. "Store policy" they replied. That was months ago and the last time I have stepped foot in their door.
Dicks has a store here in Texas, and with the money rolling around here like it does, they sell $200 sweaters and $400 boots. But I ain't been in there for a couple of years, and I won't,until and unless they cut the crap. An action against one of us is an action against all!
I live in Mesa Arizona and I just had the same experience at Dicks here. They wanted birth date and DL. I told them "no way in hell" I won't spend another dime at Dicks. They are appropriately named

Burn in hell, Dicks. You are truly named.
DICK's, an appropriate name.

I won't even step foot in a Dick's.

After they pulled rifles, because of Sandy Hook. That was the end of their existence, I wouldn't buy anything from them.
The fact that gunowners still buy from them shows they are gluten's for punishment.
dick's has shown themselves for what they are, don't be foolish take money elsewhere.
Of course to be quite blunt anyone willing to put with a FOID is already a fool.
