Idaho man sums it up perfectly in the comments. When the swat teams act like the SS troops in Germany, expect the consequences, and don't be surprised.

I don't think this is as bad as you think. With the amount of ROE troops have to deal with in Iraq and Afghanistan, along with following local laws, collecting intelligence, detaining insurgents, conducting patrols and TCPs, the job description looks a lot like a cops. There's a lot of overlaps in the training. Some SF units are cross training with police investigators in a pilot program to increase their investigative skills. Locating hidden enemies and logistic chains is pretty much what police do.

On the flipside, police are facing a rising level of threat. I'm also against the militarization of police, but I would love to see every cop in America with a semi-auto rifle and a set of plates in his trunk along with the training to use it. Just look at the North Hollywood shoot out, or the problems we have now on the borders. Cops deserve every chance they can get to preserve their lives, so if the other side is bringing full-auto AKs to the fight, I want our guys to respond in kind.

It can't get anymore "in-your-face' than this! Coupled with NDAA and 45 million rounds of ammo (and no enemy in sight) it looks like, "we have met the enemy, and they are us"! What a stupid national (International?) policy. I have long held that Obama is on drugs. But, there must be a shit load of others in power also snorting coke, because this is bigger than this administration. This has all the markings of a fight against principalities. As we approach summer, I'm wondering who will be the first to give the order, fix bayonets!

They are chomping at the bit to further escalate the militarization of the police. When the conflict finaly comes, none of the willing fools who pushed this idiocy will be spared.

The North Hollywood shootout is notable because it is a unique event. Even in LA - the bank robbery capitol of the world - things like that don't happen much. It is for those sorts of things that police departments have SWAT teams. Average police do not need rifles and heavy body armor, and they have no business mucking around in a serious firefight.

TPaine - you hit the nail on the head!
BUT there has been a slippery slope regarding the use of military troops on domestic soil for operations that should be left to the state and local authorities; including attempts to do away with Posse Comitatus.
The other issue is: over my 30+ years (74-10)of military service I have seen a definite 'upswing' in the numbers of troops who would obey orders to both fire on US Citizens and/or disarm them. Fortunately it has not gotten to the point where the will do group outnumbers those who will not obey illegal orders.
The other point is that as threats escalate, the response of LE has to compensate - case in point: Bonnie & Clyde.

Our open border that permits terrorists and criminals to illegally enter the country sets the table for more chaos and the need for Obamas' powerful civilian (TSA) corps. If we had sealed the border on 9/11 would we need all of this "protection"? The fact that Bush failed to seal it presents the terrifying thought that we've been screwed a lot longer than we thought since this is a globalist op.
