Incredible.

Twenty iconic Spitfire aircraft buried in Burma during the Second World War are to be repatriated to Britain after an intervention by David Cameron.
The Prime Minister secured a historic deal that will see the fighter aircraft dug up and shipped back to the UK almost 67 years after they were hidden more than 40-feet below ground amid fears of a Japanese occupation. . .
The plight of the buried aircraft came to Mr Cameron’s attention at the behest of a farmer from Scunthorpe, North Lincs, who is responsible for locating them at a former RAF base using radar imaging technology.
David Cundall, 62, spent 15 years doggedly searching for the planes, an exercise that involved 12 trips to Burma and cost him more than £130,000.

I was reminded of Flying to Pieces by Dean Ing, a fictional story about an attempt to find and recover a group of Japanese WWII airplanes. When I read it I was struck by the incredible value of such planes in today's market.
Ing is also known for a number of post collapse novels with a strong survivalist theme.

Neat story, but perhaps *not* the best use of the British taxpayers' money.

Be intersting to see how those aircraft have fared.

That's long term arms storage.

My Dad worked on Spitfires. As a former Aviator, I'm impressed. As a 600 hour Pilot made broke and ruined by Cubicle Dwelling Suction Vortex Psychopath Lamprey Traitor False Canuck Lawyerly Pirates, I'm Distressed. The Party's over, Drop a Bunker Buster on that Soured Site, for all I care.

Incredible is right. They can get entire aircraft returned but we can't even get Garands returned.

I would give my left arm to be able to find that many p-38 Lightenings and of course get one.

Now if we could just get our Garands back from Korea, it would make a real nice story. Oh, I forgot that historical M1 Garands are the choice weapon of city youth gangs across the country. Silly me.....

while the p-51 was the best fighter plane to wear a propeller the spit fire was the most beautiful of all fighters until the f-22 came along.they both were powered by the engine that won the war that is the rolls royce merlin v12 supercharged power plant as was the mighty avro lancaster 4 engine bomber.
