Good stuff... but they completely omitted using a sling as a shooting aid...

@Anonymous. The shooting sling was never taught for use with the L1A1 in the British Army. Slings don't work too well on an issue L1A1, the pressure on the barrel bends it and interferes with barrel harmonics. I know, I tried. Probably not appropriate anyway even if it would have worked, given how an infantry soldier was expected to operate (fire and manoeuvre or firing from trench).

Interesting that this instructor says the eye does not automatically center the front sight in the rear aperture. I have heard the opposite claim many times, but as far as I'm concerned this instructor is correct. Perhaps for short range the rough automatic centering is adequate, but for longer shots I think you should not depend on any automatic centering.
