Mike,
Thanks again for the great work you continue to do on our behalf as well as for the chapters from Absolved which you have already posted. I can't wait to read the whole book!
I remember you asking about stripper clips for Mosin Nagants. I've found a few in the desert while shooting which look to be original from the pictures I've found. These work great as you'd imagine. I've also tried the new production (see link #1) which have worked OK as long as you push the main part of the casing with your thumb while pulling up on the nose of the top round. Just tonight, I found some new production pieces which appear to be pretty decent copies of the originals (see link #2) which aren't too expensive. I haven't used the second type yet, but I will order a few for testing and will let you know the outcome if you'd like.

Of course, there are other sources and possibly better prices.
May 2010 be a great year for you and your family!
Sincerely,
Jeff
Here is the product description from the Numrich Arms website:
Numrich Arms.
Model: MOSIN NAGANT 1891, 91/30, TYPE 53, 1938, 1944
Item No. 292270A
$0.90 for quantities of 20 or more.
Retail Price: $1.10
Mindful that "packaging is everything," is there any Threeper out there who has experience with the Numrich stripper clips? They are pricey, certainly, so I can't see me buying enough to put all the 780 rounds I currently have in the cache for Hannah's M-44, but a bandoleer or two worth? Maybe, if they're worth the money.

Those are new production.
They work less well than the originals.
Last I checked this place sold Finnish originals for a buck a peice.

I bought two sets, one set was not worth a damn and the other set was flawless. So buyer beware. The set that works has the Arrow and circle stamped on it, meaning it came from some Russian arsenal. The other was some home grown crap.
I don't remember what brand, but I got some cheap ones off Ebay. They work fine for me. I have 10 of them, keep six loaded in the ammo pouches that came with the gun, and the rest loaded in the ammo can.
Haven't tried those but Cope'sDistributing has originals at adecent price.
I have a few of the brass clips that you can get on ebay 20 for 17 bucks. They are supposedly modeled after the Russian issue but look just like the ones on the Numrich site. Just as Parrothead Jeff wrote, with these clips you have to push the casing down while lifting the nose of the top round. I figured it was because of the rimmed round, but it could be bad design. I'd like to get a hold of the originals if they work better.
In my humble opinion, shooters wishing to use old rifles with stripper clips should invest in a $150 yugo mauser. The Mosin strippers are not worth the trouble.
I've got some chargers I picked up that have the Izhevsk stamp on the bottom. They're not solid on the sides: the sides each have two slots cut lengthwise so you have a 'three finger' shape.
They work far better than any other I've tried. You can take the solid-side ones and use a jewelers saw or coping saw with hack blade to cut slots, too.
I'm a bit behind here, but I just ordered some Numrich Arms M/N clips. They look like they have the desirable sharp angles.
Will send you my thoughts as soon as I am able.
The ones from Cope's have what looks like a Finnish mfg. symbol. I may go after some later, but budget dictates that I wait.
Too bad most of the WW2 originals are scattered, corroded, and buried between Moscow and Berlin...
A good M/N resource is www.7.62x54r.net.
