The suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of one soldier and the critical injury of another at a Little Rock, Ark., Army recruiting booth today was under investigation by the FBI's Joint Terrorist Task Force since his return from Yemen, ABC News has learned.
The investigation was in its preliminary stages, authorities said, and was based on the suspect's travel to Yemen and his arrest there for using a Somali passport.
The suspect, Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad, 24, had changed his name from Carlos Leon Bledsoe after converting to the Muslim faith.
Law enforcement sources said he offered no resistance when Little Rock police arrested him today.
It was not known what path Muhammad, a U.S. citizen who is a recent convert to Islam, had followed to radicalization.
"At this point it appears that he specifically targeted military personnel, but there doesn't appear to be a wider conspiracy or, at this point in time, any indication that he's a part of a larger group or a conspiracy to go further," Little Rock Police Chief Stuart Thomas said.
But, Muhammad's travels overseas have sparked a major international investigation. Officials say it is too early to know for certain if he indeed acted alone.
According to sources, the suspect advised them that he was going to kill as many Army personnel as possible. At the time of the shooting, the subject had approximately 200 rounds of ammunition available, police said.
According to a police report, Muhammad told police he saw two uniformed U.S.
soldiers in front of the recruiting office before he shot and killed Pvt. William Long, 23, and wounded Pvt. Quinton Ezeagwula, 18, while they were taking a break outside the U.S. Army recruiting station where they both worked.
When Muhammad was arrested he was near a Walgreens drug store and another large store with hundreds of people inside and out in the parking lot areas.
But authorities said he never attempted to hurt anyone at either location, and only directed his hostility to the recruiting site.
Oh, well, if he was only killing U.S. soldiers that makes him some kind of humanitarian? Well, of course.
Note that Eric Holder's not putting guards on recruiting stations, only abortion clinics.

They were probably too busy carrying out the directives behind the RWE memo, Chris.
You know that memo was just the tip of the iceberg.
"It was not known what path Muhammad, a U.S. citizen who is a recent convert to Islam, had followed to radicalization."
Pretty easy to see what "path" led this piece of trash to "radicalization", same as the rest of the trash, he followed muhamies teachings.

I keep reading where these ayholes who pretend to be 'intel officers' of one butthead government branch or another, say they don't see any connections to any conspiracies or widespread plots.
As my old Welsh nanny often said, "WTF!!!"
These cretins on the government dole, paid by OUR taxes, are so freakin' STUPID that they have never hear of 'jihad' ???
Do they not read papers or anything???
Did they think that 9 / 11 was a random occurrence, a freak of nature, and that every attack hushed up by the America-hating media - from mall shootings in Seattle to assasinations in Arkansas - perpetrated by a muzzie against a non-muzzie ( i.e., by a muzzie against a human being ) is some celestially huge coincidence? Garsh, who'd a thunk it??
No connection?
When a muzzie frags his fellow soldiers, when muzzies are caught planning to blow up a base... no connection?
Is THAT the best that our intelligence agencies can come up with? Who writes their teleprompter material, Gibbs and Carville?
God Almighty deliver us from our government helpers! Just give me a .45, a 12 gauge, a threeper to watch my back and a hotline to the Mossad, and our "agencies" can all take the day off... or better yet, take the decade off.
Yes, and this pattern of "violent radicalization" was all laid out in the MIAC Report, and then again in the DHS report on extremism, and in the "extremist lexicon" ... oh wait, actually, those only focused on "right wing extremists" and said boo about Islamic extremists. Thus, this was not a case of Islamic extremism and radicalization, but a simple case of reaction to oppression. An isolated incident.
Making those connections isn't on thier agenda, Parapacem.
On the other hand, do you guys have any of those Muslim settlements down yonder? There's been even less on this, articles like this are the best you can find:

They recruit convicts in prison, among other places.
The one thing we need to be careful about is what and how this murderer is tried. If he is tried as a terrorist or enemy combatant that has HUGE implications across the board. He is a US citizen and has rights as such and if tried as a terrorist or enemy combatant for what is the equivalent of murdering one person, that means that any citizen in America can be tried in that manner as long as they are committing a crime against the "right" protected class of persons. It would be the equivalent of "hate crime" where stricter punishments are enforced just because the one person doesn't like the other based on race or sexuality, however there is no legal or moral difference in beating a straight man to beating a gay man and both should ALWAYS be punished equally. We are a nation of laws and must remain such in the face of a fearsome, merciless and uncivilized enemy. Our civilization is what shall allow us to endure. We may lose our lives, but we shall not lose our selves to their terror.
His faith and beliefs speak to motive, but he's still a US citizen charged with premeditated murder of another US citizen (or so I assume pending further details).
Can't help but wonder at the incredible stupidity of the fool though. What did he think, that he would blaze away and make a clean getaway or what? Or was the intent to become some sort of martyr? At a minimum we can expect he will be institutionalized for the rest of his life, or spend years in solitary waiting for the needle.
Personally I'd hope he gets a year and a day, and gets turned out to general prison population. Should he survive, doubtful, I'm sure the local VFW would be delighted in throwing him a coming out party complete with noisemakers and fireworks.
We forget the possible Jihadi view of at least one of the DC snipers as well.
The Seattle Times reported that Muhammad, a Muslim convert, was known to be sympathetic to Islamic terrorists and may have been motivated by anti-American sentiments in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. "Both were known to speak sympathetically about the men who attacked the United States," reported the Seattle Times.
