Paralyzed By Ukraine, Dumbfounded by Russia

In a little-noticed interview with the Wall Street Journal earlier this month, the commander of the U.S. Army in Europe, Lt. Gen. Frederick Hodges, issued a warning: "I believe the Russians are mobilizing right now for a war that they think is going to happen in five or six years—not that they're going to start a war in five or six years," he said, "but I think they are anticipating that things are going to happen, and that they will be in a war of some sort, of some scale, with somebody within the next five or six years."

And he's never faced an adversary with the swagger and smarts of Vladimir Putin, who hails from a throwback era of global power politics that predates Obama's experience on foreign policy, and one that the American president can't quite wrap his head around.

Somebody please tell me what @#$%ing experience they are referring to?

This a$$hat of a prez had none coming into office and has even less after 6+ years.

More neocon bullshit. I'll be impressed when Russia spends one quarter what the American ruling class spends on the military, not before. But defense is a lot cheaper than offense; maybe that's what Putin is interested in?

The neocons will not be satisfied until the whole world is run from Washington DC - one world government. I can't think of a more evil desire.

And once again, he recognizes that small arms are useful against oppression, see "lethal defensive aid".

Anyone wonder why they are so intent on removing ours? A rhetorical question of course, you folks are reading this blog after all.

The Russians are far more effective per unit of wealth spent at making and deploying weapons than the US Military is.

The Russian Army has recently been spending a lot on infantry and vehicle upgrades. The US Army has not significantly upgraded the MBT since the 1980's. If we continue on this path, the US Army will have obsolete tanks (completely suitable for beating T-72 export versions, but not new top-of-the-line Russian or German tanks) in an insufficient quantity facing a pre-positioned large quantity of modern vehicles with well-trained crews. This is a scenario in that the US will be tempted to use tactical nukes to either clear the path or revenge a slaughter by Russian forces.

The Pentagon/Congressional complex needs to get their rears in gear and stop using the US Mil as a social program for employing young women who are otherwise unmarriageable or unemployable.

Yes, neocon BS.

Neocons are progressives who want to use gov power to make the world a better place over there.

That has worked just as well as the left-progressive's social engineering here at home.

Well, yeah, the Russians are preparing for a war that they are sure is coming. The psychopaths in DC are doing everything they can to start one.

Remembering his off mic "tell Vlad" comment to the Russkie at that meeting before the 2012 election, what makes anyone think that this isn't choreography to make Obama look weak while letting Russia have their way? After all, politically Obama looks more like a communist than Putin and Obama could well be the Manchurian or Moscowvian candidate.
