Folks,
I will be at the Indy 1500 Gun & Knife Show, 9-11 January 2009. We should have a table there with info on Absolved and other concerns of the Sipsey Street Irregulars. The show is held at The Indiana State Fairgrounds, 1202 East 38th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46205. Show hours are as follows: Friday, 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM; Saturday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM; Sunday, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
We will likely not have copies of Absolved ready by the time of the show, but we certainly should have ordering information by that time. Anyone from Michigan (or gutless antisemite trolls from KABA, or rogue ATF agents) wishing to punch me in the nose can make an appointment at our table Saturday morning between 0800 and 0805. I do not guarantee to stand still for the blow, nor do I promise not to return it. Rules are David Codrea's "Any chair in a bar fight."

How about working up a package of files to sell on a USB stick.
Mike you comin to california? Bob
Sorry, Fat Bob, at present the farthest west I'm scheduled to go is Wyoming in May. If that changes, I'll post it.
Mike,
So am I correct that Absolved could be only a couple of months away? I'm absolutely giddy with anticipation! (Damn. I tried not to use that word...)
Also, is there any chance you'll release it as an E-book? I'd be happy to purchase a hardback to keep, but I perfer to read on my Pocket PC.
...Orygunner...
I am more anxious for Absolved to be released than a teenybopper waiting for the next Olsen twins scrapbook.
Mike, do you know what I think will be a great power-punch beginning? Have a copy of the Bill of Rights printed on the preface page :D
Johnny,
That USB stick idea sounds interesting but wouldn't the stick itself be as expensive as a book, say $25?
Orygunner,
It had better be no more than a month away, or you fellers are going to string me up by the testicles. (And I still have need of them.)
Also, how do release it as an e-book and make money? I must admit I'm technologically deficient. also, I want hard copies because that's the way most gunnies read books, even these days.
Mike,
One and two gig usb thumb drives are going for less than $10 these days, and blank CDs are dirt cheap in bulk as well. Once on any electronic media a purchaser could move the files wherever they want to read them, computer, pda, etc.
For a business model for e-books look at Baen publishing, a pioneer in that area. They are well known for military science fiction and make their books available electronically for less than paperback prices. Since there is virtually no cost involved the sale is pure profit. Sure, some bootleg copies get out, but the folks who would bootleg your work wouldn't have bought a copy anyway, so no real loss.
Re USB sticks, that link I gave lists 50 working out at $311 dollars, though no doubt there's some shipping and handling costs too. A UK site I looked at was similar and would put your files on as part of `manufacture.' So if you sold them at $10 each you'd be making a profit. You don't need anything more than the smallest capacity stick I would expect. Of course, the more you buy the cheaper each individual unit.
CDs would be cheaper and can even be obtained in business card size format, approx 40meg capacity which would take a lot of document files. You could get those with custom printing etc. and they'd be less than a dollar each I expect, tho you would have to buy probably 500 to a thousand as a minimum order (which is why a small run of USB sticks may be more feasible because you'll get away with a lower initial order).
Of course, there's no harm in having these in addition to a printed book.
The only issue is that electronic files are easier to duplicate. This is not necessarily a bad thing in this case. If people like the book they may still want to buy a printed book to keep and to support your efforts.
And, I presume, your main aim here is to have people read `Absolved.'
Mike, could you post a tentative itinerary for your gun show circuit? I am in NE Texas and definitely want to stop by your table, buy my signed copy of Absolved and shake your hand. Hopefully, you can make a stop in the region.
I opt for the hardcover books, so I can read them when there is no electricity and my batteries are dead. EMP won't hurt them much, either. :)

Sez me: I know I will swing through Texas, but have not worked out when and what stops yet. I would like to get out to the Hobbs, NM area to see my old friend Bob Wright and some of his NM and West Texas boys we used to train with out at "Fort Stinking Desert."
As I'm trying to jump from gunshow to speaking engagement to gunshow, if you fellows could let me know where and when the best opportunities for such are it would be helpful. Say within the time frame February to early May?
If you're a friend of Bob Wright, You are the real thing. Bob's a stand-up guy!
