Connecticut throws 'assault weapon' registration party, (almost) nobody comes.

With the numbers now available, however, it becomes apparent that many of us--and perhaps all of the forcible citizen disarmament jihadists in the Connecticut government--underestimated the state's gun owners' spirit of defiance, and perhaps by an enormous margin. The number of guns and magazines registered was so paltry, in fact, that state lawmakers are trying to spin the situation as a case of willing registrants trying to register on time, but failing to do so, because the post office closed at noon on New Year's Eve, thus causing them to be late.

Tiny numbers of compliance could demonstrate open rebellion and civil disobedience but it could also reflect low information voter status.

Many might just not know they are now compelled to bow further than ever because they've turned off the "news" and tuned out.

Or it really could be that folks have just truly had enough and are just ignoring the fools who are claiming to run government. Looking to Illinois for comparison this might actually be the case. "Registering" to carry isn't going any better in Illinois and New Years postal problems have nothing to do with that.

#3 is "Never give an order you know will not be obeyed.

In the public policy realm a corollary might well be "never pass a law that will not be obeyed and cannot be enforced".

On the subject of the legislature trying to manufacture an excuse for CT's gun owners' noncompliance, it would be hard for them to do better than Joliet Jake:
