The Business of Being Born

Ricki Lake and Abby Epstein have produced and directed, respectively, a movie showing that modern, hospital-based, childbirth has become a big business. It's all about making money and very little about bringing new souls into the world. Both of our children were born in hospitals, but we started both times at home, with midwives, and only transferred to the hospital when it became apparent that we needed the hospital's help. Many women don't need that help, and our families would be healthier and happer, IMHO, if most births were at home, with the help of midwives, no doctors involved, except as backup, should they be needed.

I haven't seen the film yet, but Netflix lists it, and says it will be available in February.
