Broomhandle Mauser Here's the Broomhandle with its bolt drawn back (note the position of the safety) and a 10-round stripper clip ready to load the weapon. Push down on the top cartridge with your thumb and keep shoving until they're all in. Works most of the time, anyway. Pull the empty clip out of the top of the gun, and the bolt will close, chambering the first cartridge.

I'm told that this individual gun was made in 1915, four years before my father was born. But its bore is perfect, it shoots straight, and operates reliably.
