Broomhandle Mauser Here's the obverse side of the Broomhandle, in "cocked and locked" condition. The thing that looks like a second, smaller hammer is the thumb safety. The weapon can be drawn like this from an open-topped holster and the safety thumbed off as if it were the hammer of a single action revolver. Very fast—if only the cartridge were a little more effective.

The safety, by the way, like that of the 1910/11 Steyr and many different models of Star autopistols, lifts the hammer up off the sear, right out of the ignition train. Very good and very safe.
