Newt and Turtle

Below are a couple of photos I took on May 31, on the dirt road where I walk the dogs, an orange newt and a (snapping?) turtle. Both cooperated well with the photgraphy process, remaining motionless the whole time. The newt was perhaps six inches long, from tip to tail. The turtle was over a foot across. (S)he was crossing the road to the pond, when I rode by on my scooter.
"Newt and Turtle" reminds me of Boris Badenoff in the Bullwinkle & Rocky show saying "Moose and Squirrel" with a Russian accent.

I have never seen a newt except in photos, and was not aware they came in such vibrant colors! The desert creatures tend to be in drab earth tones, of course, and that's what I'm more familiar with. The turtle looks like a salty character... I hear they bite hard! :)
