Ron Paul: This Is A Man. Take Notes.

Courtesy of the indispensable Scott Horton, here are the key excerpts from Ron Paul's performance at the New Hampshire Republican "debate":

By now it should be obvious even to the most insensate observer that the Republican Party -- with the heroic exception of Ron Paul and a few over whom he's had a healthy influence -- is a fascist cult. Witness Herr Huckabee's invocation of "ein Reich, ein Volk, ein Fuhrer" as a riposte to Paul's irrefutable logic. (The same purported Christian, incidentally, is down with the Mark of the Beast, calling for a human inventory control system to track people like packages.)

Here's the Fox "News" account of the key exchange between Paul and Huckabee:

"Texas Rep. Ron Paul stirred much of the excitement of the evening, repeating his anti-war stance and getting into a sparring match with Huckabee over whether it's time for the United States to leave Iraq.

`Going into Iraq and Afghanistan and threatening Iran is the worst thing we can do for our national security. I am less safe, the American people are less safe for this. It's the policy that is wrong,' Paul said, adding that he disagrees with war supporters who warn against leaving prematurely.

`The people who say there will be a bloodbath are the ones who said it will be a cakewalk or it will be a slam dunk, and that it will be paid for by oil. Why believe them?' he asked.

In response, Huckabee said that the United States agreed before the war started that if they break Iraq, it must buy it.

`Congressman, whether or not we should have gone to Iraq is a discussion the historians can have, but we're there. We bought it because we broke it. We've got a responsibility to the honor of this country and to the honor of every man and woman who has served in Iraq and ever served in our military to not leave them with anything less than the honor that they deserve,' Huckabee said.

Paul then responded: `The American people didn't go in. A few people advising this administration, a small number of people called the neoconservatives hijacked our foreign policy. They're responsible, not the American people.'

Huckabee retorted that the United States is one nation. `We can't be divided. We have to be one nation, under God. That means if we make a mistake, we make it as a single country: the United States of America, not the divided states of America,' he said.

`No, when we make a mistake — when we make a mistake, it is the obligation of the people, through their representatives, to correct the mistake, not to continue the mistake,' Paul replied."

Think of it: Herr Huckabee's position is that Americans literally have a moral obligation to kill and die on behalf of a mistake: "Honor" requires no less. As an anti-Vietnam War activist in the early 1970s, John Kerry once asked: Who will be the last to die for a mistake? Huckabee's position, shared by the Red State Fascists in the audience and the GOP leadership, is essentially that it is the duty of Americans to kill and die for as long as their rulers decree -- even after the foolishness, corruption, and dishonesty of the policy is obvious.

This is pure, unfiltered cultism of an authentically fascist variety. Clearly, Ron Paul was the only sane man on the stage, which is why his statements were greeted with nervous laughter -- as demented as it was derisive -- by one of the cretinous fiends sharing that platform with him.

He's on the wrong side of the biblical threescore-and-ten, his demeanor is as mild as buttermilk, and his physique is wraith-like, but Ron Paul is a steel-spined ass-kicker with dangling anatomy made of solid brass. He is a man in full.

In his honor, I offer the following Tom Petty video featuring my unofficial Ron Paul theme song:

That's because no lobbyist will buy him lunch. ;)

By the way, watch for the Faux News/Neocon smear machine to kick into high gear now that The Doctor ("Please state the nature of the Constitutional emergency") had the NERVE to point out on national television that the Israelis have HUNDREDS of nuclear weapons, and ought to be able to fend for themselves.

I thought honour-killing is something those Arabs do. Didn't know Americans also believe in honour-killing!

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers... Thin Lizzy... you're really starting to impress me with some of your musical choices, Will*.

Can't wait to see Judas Priest's "Tyrant" on the blog, it's gotta be what's next.

(*previous post I didn't capitalize your name by accident.)

William,

A great post.

You're take on Herr Huckabee mirrors my take.

I turned to my family members watching the debate with me and told them Huckabee is the scariest candidate of the entire lot.

That's all we need -- another Arkansas governor who hails from Hope, Arkansas, and who doesn't respect the Constitution.

A Republican Party that can applaud enthusiastically for a government that can "track people like packages" is a party that has lost its way.

Your take on Ron Paul as a man in full is spot on.

Ron Paul has my vote.

I watched the Fox News coverage afterward. They showed the Paul/Huckabee exchange a couple of times but cut it short each time before Ron Paul's finishing move saying that Huckabee only wants to stay there to save face.

I nearly threw-up when giuliani said something about his only job being to defend the constitution. they should allow ron paul to respond each time one of those clowns makes a reference to the constitution since he is the only one up there representing it with any respect what-so-ever.

Paul was really good in this video. I do think that it is the responsibility of the U.S. Government to fix what it has broken, just as it would be an individual's responsibility to fix something that he or she broke.

That said, though, it is hardly clear that Iraq is 'fixable'. If not, there is no point is staying. I have yet to see a credible scenario in which a 'fixed' Iraq emerges from the current chaos. If we stay, it looks like endless war. Yet another reason not to stay, as was once clearly enunciated by Mr. Cheney:

Cheney on invading Iraq (April 1994)

Ron Paul has more courage, more conviction, and more integrity than I have EVER seen in one running for office.

I have never supported a candidate with the enthusiasm I have for Ron Paul. He is the only congressman from the modern era who would be welcome in the company of Washington, Jefferson, and Madison.

RON PAUL FOR PRESIDENT 2008!!

William - Amen! I am definitely trying to 'take notes', because it doesn't seem men like him come along very often.

Truth + Courage = Inspiration for us all

You absolutely nailed it with the "Ein Reich...", too.

Huckabee seems sincere, but scares the crap out of me all the more with his positions - human tracking, "Fair tax" - a cute distraction from the real issue of cutting spending and power - and 'fixing' the middle east. Ugh.

Priceless. If you ever become President, it's beyond clear you won't ever need a speech writer...hehe.

Oh, and Luke -- I'm too much of a Trek-dork to miss the very clever allusion to the EMH in your second post. I guess I just passed (which is to say, failed) today's Geek Test.

In a GOP field of double-talking, big government fascist clones, Dr. Paul's courage, integrity and dedication to freedom stands out like a gold nugget in a turd pile.

Mister Spock said...

Yes! The Dr. Paul/EMH reference was superb - one of those "I wish I'd said it" things. On VOY, The Doctor was called only when needed. In real life, we need Dr. Paul 24 hours a day - we are in a perpetual state of emergency.

I can't believe I forgot to watch the debate, but I was really glad to see this posted. I'm hoping I can find a video of the whole debate somewhere.

Go Ron!

As I watched that video last night, I just couldn't wait for Will Grigg's take on it. Scintillating as always.

Fox News should be ashamed of themselves for trying to stack the deck against Ron Paul. They intentionally left other candidate's (read: Guiliani and Romney) microphones on so they could laugh and snicker at Dr. Paul. They also kept doing side-by-sides showing Guiliani when Dr. Paul was giving his responses. Disgusting! Absolutely disgusting!!!

William,

I can't agree with you more. Ron Paul does have a huge set of brass ones. It is so refreshing to hear the truth from a politician.

Thank you.

I keep seeing Ron Paul as a smart and mature Jefferson Smith fighting the Taylor machine in "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington". Especially, the two scenes at the end when the Senatores are beginning to listen to his every word during his fillabuster and when he approaches the corrupt Senator Paine and says,

JEFFERSON
(with effort)
I guess this is just another lost
cause, Mr. Paine. All you people
don't know about lost causes. Mr.
Paine does. He said once they were
the only causes worth fighting for,
and he fought for them once, for the
only reason that any man ever fights
for them. Because of just one plain,
simple rule, "Love thy neighbor,"
and in this world today, full of
hatred, a man who knows that one
rule has a great trust. You knew
that rule, Mr. Paine, and I loved
you for it, just as my father did.
And you know that you fight for the
lost causes harder than for any
others. Yes, you'd even die for them,
like a man we both know, Mr. Paine.
You think I'm licked. You all think
I'm licked. Well, I'm not licked and
I'm going to stay right here and
fight for this lost cause even if
this room gets filled with lies like
these, and the Taylors and all their
armies come marching into this place.
Somebody'll listen to me--some--

Why don't we see hardly any Ron Paul's elected at a local level resisting planning and zoning government funded education and such?

It seems unlikely that he would ever be elected by a voter base that is socialistic like the voter base in the US.

I hope this will change partly as a result of the Ron Paul movement.

I just sent the Ron Paul another campaign contribution --- this was my second time. I have never before donated any money to any presidential campaign this is my first time.

I will vote for Ron Paul because if he does not get the nomination then our next president will be wearing a skirt with Willie running the halls.

God Help us and have mercy on us if this happens...

Go Ron Raul

The HSLDA (Home school legal defense association) came out a couple of months ago supporting Huckabee. I literally had the biggest knipschen fit in recent memory and fired off the longest letter of my life with quotes taken directly from Mr. H's web site. The man is without a doubt a Fascist wrapped in the flag carrying a cross. The smarmy goose-stepping comments masked as his "platform" raised so many red flags I thought the Sudetenland was going to be annexed at any moment. The mans own words, on his own site, should be enough to scare any clear thinking Christian to avoid him. The sad reality that the HSLDA would back this lunatic puts my faith in them into the tank.

MOT said...

Oh, and another thing before I forget, I have yet to get a response to my long letter to the HSLDA. I guess the truth, or contact with members, doesn't amount to a heck of a lot.

Your description was dead on in my view specifically because I can see Dr. Paul experiencing a George Wallace moment.

I mean if Ron Paul starts to really stir the aggregate populace at large in a big way, I seriously think a Wallace episode or worse would be all but inevitable.

And, in any event, it's a certainty that the "mainstream" media machine would shift into high gear with the sleights, smears, distortions of his positions and overall attempts to minimize Paul's exposure in the limelight.

They're doing some of that now, but it will certainly intensify as the presidential campaigns heat up.

Blogging about Ron Paul is great, but it ain't gonna get him nominated. This is the big hurdle.

It should be obvious to everyone by now that the MSM and the big-shot pundits are not going to acknowledge him as a legitimate candidate. Even Patrick Buchanan last night on the McGauglin Group, when debating over which candidate was a true conservative in the Republican race, didn't mention Dr. Paul.

Just saying Dr. Paul has our vote won't get him nominated. The primaries are where it's going to happen, and that is trench warfare. At the very least, I hope everyone on this blog is in a meet-up group, and signed on as a supporter/contributor with the RP campaign.

RP is a true leader of a nation of free men. He is the most qualified, most principled, most genuine, most noble and is a hero.

The other candidates should STFU and take notes on how to be better human beings.

Ron Paul truly is a man among men.

By the way, Braveheart was a great theme for Buchanan's campaign in 96, but I definitely like the idea of Tom Petty's song for Paul in 08.

We are starting to see some of the other candidates parroting Dr. Paul's constitutional stance on a variety of issues. I think if Dr. p0aul had not been in the race they probably would have made it all the way to nov. 2008 without even mentioning the document. But who are you going to trust to actually uphold the constitution? Who has the 20 yr record of rejecting every piece of legislation that is not constitutional? He even votes against pork barrell spending for his own district. How does someone like that even get reelected in todays constitutionally ignorant society? I personally would be proud to have him as my congressman. He actually does work very hard on behalf of his constituents in helping them on an individual basis to cut through red tape and resolve problems that affect them on a very individual level. He actually champions the minority of all minorities...THE INDIVIDUAL
So when all of these other guys start to talk about their oath to the constitution or states rights, just remeber that only one of them actually has a record of following through on that and not being corrupted by the influence of lobbyists.

Vote yes for Dr. NO!
