This site documents the US Navy's new major combatant vessels of the 21st century, including the Gerald R. Ford Class nuclear aircraft carriers (CVN), the America Class amphibious assault ships (LHA), the Zumwalt Class guided missile destroyers (DDG), the Freedom and Independence Classes Littoral Combat Ships (LCS), the San Antonio Class amphibiuous assault ships (LPD), and the Virginia Class nuclear attack submarines (SSN). It also documents major new aircraft, such as the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, the P-8 Poseidon MPA, the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye, the P-8 Poseidon MPA, and the X-47B UCAS. Finally, also it will document certain emerging technologies like the Rail Gun and Sea BAsed X-Band radar.
All of this together represents significant improvements in technology, handling, firepower, propulsion, maintenance, and operations over the older systems which they are replacing. This represents a huge investement by the american people, but it is well spent in ensuring the peace and maintaining the US Navy's traditional role as the protector of freedom of navigation and peace on the high seas.
