Power Plant: 2xRolls-Royce T56-A-427 Turboprops (5100 shp each) Sensors: Fully integrated open architecture system Crew: five; two pilots, three mission systems operators E-2D Advanced Hawkeye The E-2D Advanced Hawkeye, is the latest version of the venerable E-2 Hawkeye that has been with the US Navy since 1964. The first E-2D Advanced Hawkey flew in 2007 and rhe first two aircraft underwent extensive tesiting into 2010. Production aircraft began production and delivery to the fleet in 2010. t The E-2D features an entirely new avionics suite, including the new APY-9 radar, radio suite, mission computer, integrated satellite communications capability, flight management system, improved turboprop engines, a new "glass cockpit", and the added capability for air-to-air refueling. The APY-9 radar features an Active Electronically Scanned Array, which adds electronic scanning to the mechanical rotation of the radar in its radome. The E-2D will include provisions for either one of the pilots to act as a Tactical 4th Operator, who will have access to the full range of the mission's acquired data. On May 8, 2009, an E-2D Advanced Hawkeye used its new "Cooperative Engagement Capability" to engage an overland cruise missile with a Standard Missile SM-6 fired from a vessel in an integrated fire-control system test. The E-2D Advanced Hawkeye is a game changer in how the Navy will conduct battle management command and control. By serving as the "digital quarterback" to sweep ahead of strike, manage the mission, and keep our net-centric carrier battle groups out of harms way, the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye is the key to advancing the mission, no matter what it may be. The E-2D gives the warfighter expanded battlespace awareness, especially in the area of information operations delivering battle management, theater air and missile defense, and multiple sensor fusion capabilities in an airborne system. With a two-generation leap in radar sensor capability and a robust network enabled capability, the Advanced Hawkeye delivers critical, actionable data to joint forces and first responders. These advances provide warfighters with the necessary situational awareness to compress the time between initial awareness and active engagement. New capabilities of the E-2D include:
Egypt, France, Israel, Japan, Singapore and Taiwan also operate E-2, and most of them are upgrading their aircraft to the international Hawkeye 2000 standard (which is essentially an advanced E-2C configuration).
