Iraqi Relief through Iraqi Freedom As a result of Saddam Hussein and his Ba'ath party's oppression, and as a result of the war, the Iraqi people were in desperate need of relief. This was particularly true in the south, but also wherever coalition forces liberated the people. The coalition came as liberators, not as conqueors, and the generosity of the coalition troops and people was made apparent as soon as Iraqi ports were secured and as soon as the food and materiel could begin flowing.
