Saab 9-5 Brights Wouldn't Stay On

I have a 1999 Saab 9-5, gifted to my son by my sister-in-law. He loves the car, but doesn't like paying for its 20-mile-per-gallon gas, so he drives my 2005 Honda Civic, and I drive the Saab. I recently had two problems with the Saab's high beams.
First, the left high beam wasn't working. I got a new bulb, but that didn't fix the problem. Turned out I needed to get a new orange light control relay. Amazon has it for $25, or you can find it for less on eBay. Replacing the relay made the left high-beam work, but the brights wouldn't stay on by themselves. I had to hold the high beam handle back to keep them on, a real pain while driving. My mechanic recommended replacing the gray relay associated with the high beams. Amazon has that for $12.
Replacing that relay didn't work either, so I went to Shaftsbury Saab, about 15 minutes from my apartment in Bennington, and asked the guy there what to do. He asked a few questions, then recommended that I turn the light control switch inside the car to the farthest clockwise position. I had never noticed that switch to do anything, but since I did that, the brights stay on. Yay!
