Great idea by that company; use a heat pump adaptation to heat the water in the hot water tank, instead of just using electric energy direct for pure resistance heating. The average heat pump has only about 50% efficiency, but COP = 3.0 to 4.0. If the water pump "electric heater" is nearly 100% efficient, its replacement by the heat pump arrangement will use only one third to one fourth as much electric energy as the water heater normally does. Great application! Cheers, Tom From: Douglas B
